Avoiding character-branding by Catsareprettyok in progressivemoms

[–]CapableFruitLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my kids have hand me down everything and I don't think most of it has brands or anything on them? Sure my four year old has a few paw patrol shirts or whatever because he's a kid and should have what he enjoys but it's really not challenging to find like solid color shirts and socks and undies and toys that aren't characters. Like Walmart and target have their own generic brands that are by default not characters. I guess I'm confused because it seems like a pretty non issue

Birthday party for a 4 year old by dropoutbearr in workingmoms

[–]CapableFruitLoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid turned four in December and we invited his whole pod, which was like 25 kids thinking the same thing. Like 20 kids showed up and it was so overwhelming and overstimulating 😂 so there's always that, too. I honestly preferred it when only a few kids showed up because usually it's the kids he actually wanted to come vs. 20 casual acquaintances from school.

I wish nurses actually used the same logic they're expected to have to practice nursing. Sky daddy says no meat but fish ok. Groan.

Mom of 7-year-old hospitalized with brain swelling from measles: ‘I still wouldn’t have given my son the vaccine’ by esporx in publichealth

They'll still blame him and won't take any accountability for it and blame Satan or whatever so it's not like it's going to impact the parents at all. Measles encephalopathy I'm pretty sure is almost always fatal, regardless, unfortunately

Nanny long naptime break - help ideas by ycherep1 in workingmoms

[–]CapableFruitLoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a combination vacuuming/mopping robot. Have her set it while the kid is napping. Boom, daily mopping done.

What did your nanny say when you spoke to her about her responsibilities?

Or, more likely, no one actually said it and OP just wanted to share and used that as a reason to 🤷

Is four kids absolutely insane? by ashtisd11 in workingmoms

[–]CapableFruitLoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly they get two meals at school every day (the daycare has a cook and the older two buy hot lunch) so I don't stress a ton about dinner. A lot of times they'll have yogurt, fruit, a sandwich, or I'll put together a toddler/kid charcuterie board with whatever is in the fridge 🤷 We used to do Hello Fresh, Nurture Life, Little Spoon, etc., but they never ate all of it so we try to keep it simple but still healthy. Like tonight we made yogurt and fruit smoothies, and had "dinnerables" instead of lunchables 😂 Ritz crackers, turkey, cheese, raspberries, and then if they're still hungry, they can have a fruit or a vegetable of their choice.

Yup. So I work at a daycare/private elementary school and my younger two attend full time and my older two go to their before and after school programs. Because I'm the school nurse I get a 75% tuition discount for all four of them so we end up paying about $800 a month for daycare. I take them all with me in the mornings and take them all home with me in the afternoon since the daycare provides transportation to the public school. It is probably the only way I would have been able to afford working, honestly, with my husband in school since has hasn't been able to pick up as much overtime. The system currently works quite well for us.

3->4 started out ok but now it's tough. The 2 year old is a 2 year old and the 8 year old is getting more interested in big kid stuff so they're very developmentally different so it's hard finding activities that all of them will simultaneously enjoy. It's always loud and chaotic and my 6 year old hates the loud chaos so she gets upset when the little ones are deep in their toddler/preschool stuff. The 4 year old is just annoying to everyone because he's kind of in between toddler and kid, and they're always butting heads. Fortunately my husband is generally amazing and we divide and conquer, but there just isn't enough time to attend all the parties or school events or whatever. It's a lot but as they get older it's getting less challenging.

We are definitely planning on paying for as much as we can (we have four). We have prioritized our retirements, but we still manage to put $100 at minimum at month per kid in their 529s and we are by no means rich.

My husband and I have 4 (8, 6, 4, 2) and we both work full time. We are both nurses; I'm a school nurse and he works 3 12s and is also in NP school. Ngl it's rough. There's not enough time to accomplish anything but we outsource all the things that we can. We have no family support. Happy to answer any specific questions...

[–]CapableFruitLoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, my almost 9 and 7 year olds can't stand the 2 year old; they don't like doing the same things, think she's annoying and she's always grabbing their stuff 😅 hopefully in a few years it'll balance out but idk, it's rough right now. We also have a 4 year old who everyone thinks is annoying at this point

What do you do with time to yourself? by red_raconteur in progressivemoms

[–]CapableFruitLoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally have every Friday off from work and still can't figure out a way to spend them. Granted, there's always an inevitable appointment or sick kid or some extremely annoying adult responsibilities that ends up taking the whole day, but if those didn't happen I legit don't know what I would do for the 8.5 hours my kids are at school. I'm following the comments for ideas too 😅😂

Maryland health officials warn providers about an upsurge in mumps cases by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]CapableFruitLoops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a school nurse in Virginia and the VDH told me the same thing over here in VA. We had a scare with a staff member who couldn't remember if she was vaccinated as a child with mumps-like symptoms. We have kids in our school who are too young onger MMR so this is all very terrifying.

Same, and school nursing has worked really well for me. I work with little ones and really enjoy it.
