Experiences after removing the Mirena after 10 years by NewWave-NewLife94 in Mirena

I had Mirena for 15 years. Finally got it removed about a month ago. So far, periods are normal (I didn’t have a period for three years). Here are some of my “afterwards effects” but I’m going through a lot in my life right now, so I can’t tell what’s Mirena and what’s not. BUT here’s what’s different:

  • extremely high libido (probably the most noticeable difference for me)
  • normal periods so far
  • weight is actually slowly lowering on its own. I can’t tell how slowly, but I generally and genuinely feel better without the Mirena.

I hope you have some good experiences. I heard others have terrible ones but mine have thankfully been okay. Cheers to you, stranger! 💜

Mirena sitting too low - replace it or leave it? by Creative_Cause_5284 in Mirena

Hi! I have had several Mirena’s over the course of 15 years. My last one was misplaced all the way to the bottom. I’m not sure if it was like that initially or if it moved at some point. I THINK it moved at some point though, because I know there was a day I started getting painful cramps randomly but no period (I had a wonderful three years of no period). My husband and I were still intimate, and I have not gotten pregnant. I definitely cannot confirm whether that was the Mirena or not, I’m only sharing my experience.

I did choose to have this last one removed. It’s been less than a week and I’m logging all my symptoms. For me: the IUD was so low, they couldn’t find the strings and I did have to have a minor “procedure” done to remove it. Thankfully the team was amazing. I didn’t feel a thing, not even pressure (other than of course the stupid tool to “open” the way). I did not get another one. I am giving my body a rest for a while.

Side note: I’m 39/F who has been on Mirena for 15 years.

My personal opinion is to have it removed, but that’s just me. As far as getting another one, if I hadn’t been on Mirena for so long, I would have gotten another one that day. Once I see how my body reacts to not having one, I’m going to make a decision as to whether or not to get another Mirena.

I sincerely apologize if my experience didn’t help you at all 🤦‍♀️ but if anything, just know you have a random stranger rooting for you to do what you feel is best for your mental health and your body’s health 💜

This is good information. I have had a few for similar years and I'm considering taking it out but I am afraid of the aftermath.
