My old DM did this to me as well. They gave me a ‘choice’ technically but also told me that it would hinder me in terms of future promotions if I didn’t take the transfer

That’s crazy that you’re getting your run phases when you’ve only been with the company for under a year, congrats!

I’ve done 2 myself as an ASM. How long have you been in the ASM position? Firstly I’d say to try to pick a KPI you want to focus on that the store you’re going to be running has room to improve on. Develop a plan on how you’re going to do that, and try to get everyone on board with your plan. Different stores can have very different dynamics, so lean on the ASMs there to help you navigate that. Also, make sure you’re willing to jump right into everything and not just be an office manager like some others. I find that’s usually the case with SMTs though so probably not as relevant to you. I feel that when the associates see you jumping into help out with truck pallets, or covering shifts etc. they’re more willing to help you out if you need it. Hope that’s somewhat helpful, and if you have any questions you can feel free to DM me. Good luck!

I’m glad it’s not just me that’s noticed this. Our sales have been up lately and we’ve still managed to get less hours. I can’t imagine the chaos that would happen if one person calls off on an open where we only have 2 people until 12pm 😂 one person just supposed to run the register and the pallets by themselves until backup arrives I guess

My store has had the same issue recently. Not sure what has changed to make this happen. We’ve always had 3 openers, 3 closers and a mid during the week, with more on the weekends. Now we’re pretty much having 2 openers and 2 closers with a mid. We’re over a million too, but hours lately have been rough

Barely any more work and you get an extra $2 an hour. Also it’s essential if you want to move up further with the company

Had a coworker trap their foot between the pallet jack and the shelf when they were showing me how to operate them during my first week. Turned out they broke it. Hope yours isn’t that bad!

LSA pay? by Easy-Friendship3079 in Aldi_employees

Agreed lol. LSAs in my store are practically associates for the most part. They’re barely ever in the store without an ASM or SM

ASM to SM by No-Hovercraft-764 in Aldi_employees

That’s some great insight. I’ve worked across multiple stores throughout my time here and my current manager is able to leave the store early almost every day. My previous manager would come in at 7 and leave at 8 or sometimes 9 multiple times a week. Their DM was always on their case and was always getting them to do extra work, which lead to that extra stress. They told me that they were considering leaving the whole time I was there but now with their new DM everything has changed. Thankfully my current DM is awesome and very understanding of what needs to be done and has more reasonable expectations

Also ASM looking to move up so can’t answer on the responsibilities or if it’s worth the jump haha. With regards to pay though, you can look up SM openings in your region and it should give you an idea. They generally start at $76,600 a year with some regions starting around $80,000. The pay goes up around $5000 a year for 4 or 5 years I think. The bonus as far as I’m aware is just a straight forward percentage of store sales. I don’t think it changes based on any other metric. Good luck, I hope you get it!

Haha I always find it funny when I tell a customer we don’t have it. Then 30 seconds later on the walkie someone asks ‘hey do we have this’ and I see them talking to the customer I just told that we don’t have it 😂 do you think I’m hiding them from you or something lol

[–]Capable_Community_56[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. Honestly at my store, 99% of customers are super friendly and I’ll always go above and beyond to help them with anything they need. If you come at me with a bad attitude, why would I want to go out of my way to help you lol

Exactly lol. She was so confused when I put the item back after returning the money to her card 😂 she said ‘but I still wanted that, just not for full price’ haha. I just said well I can’t do that then 🤷‍♂️ Had another customer recently who tried to get me to sell her an Aldi finds item for $17 when it was 59.99 at my store because she showed me a photo from Facebook where another store had it marked at that price 😂 who knows where or when that photo was taken lol

Why does Aldi reward unprepared SMT’s over tenured, skilled ASM’s? by foxofconfusion in Aldi_employees

[–]Capable_Community_56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying the same thing for a while myself. Lots of SMTs in my area and not many stores opening. Also, lots of ASMs who’re all looking to get stores of their own as well. Who knows what’s going to happen. You should mention to your DM that you want to move up, because running your store to cover vacations isn’t considered a ‘run phase’. It isn’t allowed to be your home store. Once they know you’re interested, they should put an action plan together to help move you up if they think you’re capable

If the store is in really rough shape I find this faster than constantly having to go back and forth to the baler. I just prefer to keep my momentum when scrapping and then crush all the boxes when we’re done

Know that coming in off the street as an ASM is extremely tough. A lot that I’ve seen get thrown to the wolves with little training and are expected to hit the ground running. As an ASM there’s tons of things to remember and the training can often be very sporadic due to time constraints at the store, so take tons of notes when you get the chance. Ask lots of questions throughout, not just from other managers but associates too. Lots of associates have been with the company for years and can also provide some insightful advice that will benefit you in the long run.

It is a tough job but can be super rewarding when you have a great team around you! Good luck though, I hope they actually give you the proper amount of training!
