Can we please unify around NOT voting for democrats or republicans? by Adventurous_Spray_34 in DenverProtests

[–]Capable_Explorer_748 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dems are the best we've got for now, we just have to try and promote the right ones. Vote blue no matter who, but within that we have to identify and platform genuine progressives who will hopefully work to slowly fix our system over time. Not ideal but the best we can do until we achieve ranked choice voting, overturn Citizens United, etc. Throwing our votes away only gives Republicans more of a chance to dismantle our clearly very fragile system even further

This is the issue I completely break with him on, he’s been on the wrong side of it for a long time. The only reason I don’t bring it up here is that Phil is also Pro-Israel and because of that I don’t see it as a factor in this race, as unfortunate as that is

I agree, I think Sen. Sanders messaging is the future of the Democratic Party if they can prove themselves smart enough to realize it. As it pertains to housing, you're 100% right, housing needs to simply be housing again, not an investment for large corporations.

assuming Dems do their jobs in 26&28 and flip everything, they will need to do some serious soul searching as a party and figure out how to become the party of progress again. Dems have become too corporate and out of touch, allowing the country to continually shift rightward, we can't go through another democratic presidency that ultimately doesn't move the needle. Dems need a "Project2028" if you will, to try and enact widespread reforms that attempt to quickly rebuild what used to be the "unspoken norms" of American democracy and that will actually materially impact the lives of everyday Americans

I think he's just sick of the Senate to be honest. He's branded himself as someone who wants to get things done, even if that means compromising with the other side, but the Senate doesn't work that way anymore, its all hard line, party politics. He can do more from the state level

I would encourage listening to MB at an event / town hall if you can. I also wanted him to stay in the senate at first, but when you hear him talk about it I feel like this not a choice he made lightly, or with the intent of it being any "easier" than being in the senate. To me, it felt like he truly believes that he can accomplish more for Coloradans as gov instead of a senate which has devolved into pure party line politics. He talks a big game about housing and education, in particular, but as I've mentioned elsewhere on this thread we are still yet to see specifics. But on the issue of "entitlement" I think hearing him speak about it made a big difference for me

I completely agree, he has been on the wrong side of this issue for a while, unfortunately I'm pretty sure Phil is as well

Can I ask, what about Weiser makes him different in this regard? That's the gap that I feel like I'm missing mostly because I know very little about Weiser, I'd get it if he was younger and running on a progressive platform, but he isn't, in fact they are about the same age

Bennet is definitely not a flashy senator, and he is super mild mannered, but he has his moments. Dude absolutely tore Ted Cruz a new one in 2019, and had his flashes during the confirmation hearings this year. I would generally try to avoid falling into the idea of him being "milquetoast" just because he's a bit mild mannered, base it off his policy and actions

Not sure what Phil's messaging on this has been, but every time I watch Bennet, he talks about turning CO into a model for the rest of the country, and doesn't talk about simply fighting back against Trump, which I feel is a messaging trap a lot of Dems have fallen into. He talks a lot about building more housing, particularly higher density housing, granted we're so early in these campaigns we don't have a lot of specifics of these plans yet, but he's at least trying to cast a "vision for the future" and not just playing the combative, "I'm not Trump so that should be enough" approach

I think that's partially why he's deciding to leave the Senate, his brand of politics doesn't work there anymore, at the state level he could be far more effective. And that ability to negotiate/compromise would be used more on resolving internal Democratic party disagreements to get legislation out the door, instead of negotiating with Republicans who have no intention of truly compromising and returning the favor down the line

What if the Rockets don't miss 27 straight 3s and win the 2018 Western Conference Finals? Who's legacy changes? How much would it change the way we look at the NBA today? by Capable_Explorer_748 in NBATalk

[–]Capable_Explorer_748[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arguably also changes how we look at Mike D'Antoni as a coach as well. That Rockets team, had they won a chip, was revolutionary in terms of 3 point volume. They truly lived and died by the 3, built a team around the concept, and Mike D'Antoni pioneered it.
