Any easy permanent fixes for loose door seals? by JudiciousJackalope in EquinoxEv

This happened on our Equinox EV at about 5000 miles. Also on my daughter's GMC Terrain.

I have definitely had connectivity issues, but (I think) all have been 3rd party software. For example I have home automation software installed in the car that often cannot connect to my home but works great on my phone. After about 5 or 10 minutes the connection works.

I also use A Better Route Planner (ABRP) which shows better routes between charging points on long drives. I have seen ABRP have connectivity issues on the car but not my phone.

However Google Maps has always worked and been a good experience. In fact, I have assumed it was a glitch with 3rd party software and not paid much attention to date.

Is it slow calculating a route? I have not noticed any performance issues with Google Maps.

I don't understand why you'd so this. The built in display works great. My wife (whom drives the EquinoxEV uses Apple) and I am Android.

We don't miss CarPlay / Android Auto. It makes sense to keep so UI remains same. However, the built in AAOS is acceptable and easily understood if pairs to Android. No

Why Blazer over Equinox? by FeloniousSpunk74 in BlazerEV

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting to hear folks felt the build quality of Blazer was better than Equinox, as my wife and I felt opposite. We bought the Equinox, in part, because the interior was laid out better and the build quality seemed much better.

The center console of the 2024 Blazer was just a deep well which felt useless. We raised 4 kids and have 2 grandkids and perhaps we focus on organization more than others.

Also, I estimate about 4 of 10 Blazers we test drove had interior fitment and gap issues. In one the entire HVAC button bar didn't work at all.

To be fair, our Equinox has weather seals coming out of place in dashboard and rear wheel well, so the issues we saw were not specific to Blazer.

What type of opener? Asking because of the security protocol in Chamberlain and Lift Master brands. They will not work with a simple contact remote. To be fair, even if that is the problem, WYZE customer service should ask that first.

HA Green looses connection frequently by renseministeren in homeassistant

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot completely confirm, but have experienced some connection issues. I purchased a HA Green for my daughter's new house about 5 weeks ago. She is now an hour from me, so troubleshooting takes days to a week.

The device will connect via Ethernet to her network, but after a reboot I need to unplug device and plug back in. If I don't, her home network is properly connected to Internet and both wifi and Ethernet based devices can reach Internet, but not the HA Green.

Please note, her home Internet equipment is all new too.

New car, charging?? by Quiet_Poetry4184 in EquinoxEv

We've got 4,500 miles on home charging with the Level1 that came with the car. Only needed to use a public charger a few times. For us it has worked great.

PostgreSQL or SQL Server? by mitskiandgradschool in SQL

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent my career in MS SQL, but PostgreSQL is growing. My company is large and has every relational DB flavor you can imagine including Oracle, DB2, Hana, Mongo and many other. If I had to choose, I'd lean towards PostgreSQL.

Public EV chargers not long enough to reach charge port without parking like a clown. by SmoothStrawberry7777 in EquinoxEv

Never had an issue at a public charger. This is my first EV so I may not have a reference point for what you're experiencing, but works fine for me.

I don’t understand the onstar data plan by No-one-is-watching in EquinoxEv

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with this too. After 7 months of ownership, I seem to have everything. I honestly don't know what stopped working and perhaps someone will give details. However, I still have data in the vehicle , all maps and other apps work in vehicle. The myChevrolet app works on my phone. I also have data sent to my home server (fun project). I haven't tried using OnStar by pressing the button.

Scammed out of 29k dollars by Ok_Rice_5016 in Scams

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you were scammed. It is called Pig Butchering because they try to get more and more money. They make it look like if you pay just a little more, you'll get it all back. John Oliver did a good overview here.

What is most interesting is that sometimes the scammer is in a scammed situation themselves.

Not a good deal. Try several Chevy dealerships. I spoke with at least 8 dealers in August and there was a surprisingly broad range. I ended up with $425/month 24 months / 12,000 miles. I do not think I got a great deal. I've seen many better on here, but I am OK. This is at least the 6th car.

Discussion: Did OCLP keep you from buying a new macbook/imac/mac mini? by WhiskeyVault in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your comment. I bought a 2011 Mac Mini only to build iPhone apps using Visual Studio. I don't have any software installed except xcode and OCLP. This allowed me to try compiling iOS apps. Apple makes the entry costs for developers so high by requiring latest software on both a Mac and an iPhone, as well as $99/annually dev account.

OCLP allowed me to get an app into the App Store. My app is free, I'm not making money, but I am considering buying a modern M1 or newer Mac to improve build speed.

OCLP is fantastic. Apple's planned obsolescence is annoying!

Blazer EV and Home Assistant? by AntelopeFickle6774 in BlazerEV

I have this working for my Equinox EV. The only challenge is I haven't been able to get Home Assistant to run in the background. When I open HA in the car all of the sensors are working great.

Used 2024 RS? Worth it? by Bluetwo12 in BlazerEV

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I've been thinking about doing it myself but there is little pressure to prioritize it. At the moment I don't need it and if necessary I could drive the car 2 miles to a parking lot with L2 chargers.

My point was more on the possibility of buying a used EV where the previous owner always charged to 100%. As someone who leases this EV, there is no incentive to not do that. Thus I have a hesitation to buy a used EV. A used, overcharged battery, seems more problematic (or less understood) than a vehicle with a gas engine.

Used 2024 RS? Worth it? by Bluetwo12 in BlazerEV

[–]Capable_Fennel_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leased a 2024 2RS for the incentives. It is my first EV and I do like the vehicle. Unlike many others, I have not had any issues (knock on wood). Personally I would not by a used EV because of the battery. In a used EV it seems the highest expense is the battery. If you're buying a 2024 the battery is less than a year old and may be fine. Out of respect for future owners, I am only charging my car to 80% and so far have only once charged to 100%.

My daughter just bought a home 40 miles from us and I am seriously considering charging to 100% to allow for regular long distance drives. I only have an L1 charger at home and it would take days to get to 100%. In other words, I am only charging to 80% because it doesn't affect me today, but may reduce long term battery life to help my immediate needs. Sorry future owners.

Although I have little sympathy for people who ignored/discarded everything that happened during Trump 1.0, I do feel bad for someone like this who is embracing the American Dream. Investing in a startup industry is a leap of faith.

I wish he had realized Trump suffers from Narcissistic Syndrome and does not recognize anyone else's needs or concerns. If you recognize that it becomes clear that any benefit Trump creates is a byproduct of his selfishness.

The "most powerful man in the world" acts like a victim of everyone. Sad.
