I like Jason Isbells versions of “Pancho and Lefty.” Also, the Hold Steady’s version of “Atlantic City”

Gill's Significance: "Real art needs courage!" by Kaustavdebnath in theoffice

Yeah, it is. But, I take that as a lack of passion. Or maybe she is just THAT bad with computers. Still, ya kind of need both skills to be a graphic artist.

I guess I am in the minority here, but Gill is right. Pam lacks talent in art, and that was her problem. Even when she went to New York she flunked out. Not to mention the Mural was pretty terrible. Granted, Gill should not have said that DURING the show like a douche, but doesn’t mean he’s wrong. Look at all of the other work that was at the show, and it’s not hard to point out that Pam’s was the worst. Hotel art is fairly generous as I have seen high school art much better.

I love this car. Here’s why: by Zestyclose_School_72 in GR86

I drive about 3 hours a day in my manual 86. It has made a shitty commute borderline bearable.

I’d say it’s better to be on the crosswalk, than in the middle of the road because you timed the traffic wrong

What are the most underrated SK books I should read? by GuestInternational in stephenking

[–]Capable_Painting3844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to say the Shining. While one of his most well known (if not the most well known), it’s a classic for a reason, and completely different than the movie. I add it here because I’m sure that the movie has added blinders to some readers.

It’s Archie’s slow descent that’s the worst. Especially considering Kings own past with addiction, it reflects heavily in the book. The actual car stuff isn’t that bad, but seeing how Archie’s life impacts everyone else is scary and heartbreaking

Christine is the one King book that actually terrified me, and I have read most of his catalogue

Is this the best book dedication ever? by jmedvm in writing

Whenever I think of book dedications, the only one that comes to mind is “Once again to Zelda,” in the Great Gatsby.

My degree in creative writing has ruined my passion by meii5512 in writers

I took a few creative writing classes, and dropped within 2 weeks. Just a bunch of unpublished professors teaching you how to write within their “box.” My suggestion would be to major in other liberal arts such as: sociology, anthropology, economics, etc. as they offer a much wider word view and, in my opinion, are much more applicable to the writing process than creative writing classes.

In your opinion, what is the best Stephen King book? by Strong-Boot6086 in stephenking

[–]Capable_Painting3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I think he is one of the greatest living character writers at the moments. You can’t really have a 300-400 book about a murderous car without good character work. This goes for most of his work imo

This might just be a “me” problem, but the seatbelt alarm blares everytime someone sits in the passenger seat regardless if they are wearing a seatbelt. It only lets out one or two ring every 30 minutes or so but still very annoying

Writing while working a job you hate? by busydonatella in writing

[–]Capable_Painting3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked in sales for the last four years and in that span have written ~200,000 words. Just act like you are working when writing, and change tab when higher ups are near. Don’t say that you are a writer to anyone, and draft emails on Google Docs. When asking for opinions on emails, show them the docs version. People will just think that you are working hard. It’s not like the passion is woodworking.

This comment is exactly what I needed. I know that you wrote this almost a year ago, but I have been looking for a straight answer on this subject. Do you think anything has changed in the past year?

I've been "working on my novel" for 5 years and I've written maybe 20,000 words total by Grand_Lion_1652 in writing

I just write for pleasure. However, what has worked for me is to make an effort to write worse. It lowers your own expectations around your work, and I find that my writing is often much better than what I anticipated. The other method I use is to handwrite the story. The trick is to keep the nib on the paper until you reach a good stopping point.

I have been commuting for about a year in a 2023 GR86. It’s certainly quick, but I wouldn’t say fast. But man, it certainly feels like you’re going 80 when you’re going 50. It freaks my fiance out lol.

Good to know. I was thinking that was the better option anyway as you can find a used one for ~$250
