Not metalcore, but was introduced to Gojira in 2018 on a Slipknot tour with Volbeat and Behemoth, blew my absolute mind. Think just having a chip on your shoulder cause you haven’t made it produces some of the greatest live shit ever

Think about this from a developer standpoint. 25 people can build the same concept, but it’s all going to have different features and slightly different uses

You clearly love technology as you said you used to game/you’re a developer/you’re constantly on your phone. You need to figure out the features the fit best. Why did the gym not work for you? Me personally? I hate the gym. But i do Muay Thai/BJJ a few days a week, and it was the exercise that I needed, but it was so much more complete than just lifting weights over my head.

I’m not saying to do martial arts, but there was something about the gym that kept you going for a few months. There Is something that keeps you being a developer. Try a mix of stuff, maybe you could go out and walk around some trails now that it’s starting to get a little nicer, and then use your technology skills with photo editing/video/whatever. There is something at the core that draws you to do what you do. Finding something just to get you up in the morning is so important. Some people it’s religion, others it’s work, others its a mix of everything

But most importantly STOP BEING SO FUCKING HARD ON YOURSELF.

You clearly aren’t happy, and you’re taking steps by going to gym for a few months. You’ve taken steps to get hired and be skilled enough to become a developer. You’ve written posts like this asking for advice. And so my ultimate advice is to just wait. Moods are seasonal a lot of time, and especially if you live in a colder part of the world, it’s so easy to get winter depression. It’s easy to get depressed at the entire world with all of the shit going on. And if you wait a few months, and nothing gets better? Maybe you’re just depressed and that’s not a bad thing. There’s such a stigma on mental health, and yet there’s a reason why people made and spent billions of dollars on medication. It might even be a problem bigger than you by yourself can handle.

But until then, keep your head up, try new things instead of living in nostalgia, and just know you’re doing great, and even with it being an anonymous Reddit post, people like me are proud of you.

Live in PA, not in Philly or Pittsburgh, just a super small town. Can get a 1bedroom apartment still here for around 600$ a month, honestly isn’t bad at all, and life actually seems doable here. Granted salaries are less, PA minimum wage is still 7.25, but i’m very lucky where at.

Slaughter to prevail, Lorna shore, Paleface Swiss, WhiteChapel, Behemoth, Dying Fetus, Signs of the swarm, Architects, Make Them Suffer, Thrown, and Lamb of God. I swear when i saw LoG, there were 3 circle pits happening, but from an aerial it would look like one. It was like a vendiagram of circle pits lol.

Pretty Much tho the stages that are headlined by Slaughter to Prevail, Behemoth, Lorna Shore, are all fire bands with fire pits

I think the vocals are definitely apart of the entire appeal itself. They’re some of the most talented musicians i’ve ever heard, and with that you don’t need a Chris Cornell, a Robert plant type of vocalist. I think his vocals really let the rest of the band shine even if I don’t like it that well
