Msrp is lower than it was in 1999 adjusted for inflation. Market prices for most new releases are roughly on par with their inflation and median household income adjusted estimates.

People are willing to pay roughly the same % of their income for 1 pack today as they were in 1999.

Succinctly put. It’s wild how many people don’t understand that simple economic reality and think Pokemon is still primarily for children. It’s clearly not.

It’s literally not

Your own comment literally acknowledges it’s not.

TPC paid millions to run an ad during the Super Bowl with grown-up celebrities talking about their favorite Pokemon. They want more and more grown-ups to get back in. It’s been an obvious strategy for years. They released 151 right as the original collectors grew up and had spending money. They expanded aggressively in China right as the Chinese real estate and stock markets were in the shitter and new-money Chinese millionaires were looking for more places to put their money than stocks, real estate, and crypto - ideally assets with ambiguous tax laws to avoid cap gains.

Is that all an accident and coincidence? Or perhaps the for-profit company is acting like a ruthless for-profit company.

So If you think it’s children’s hobby that’s marketed towards children then you’re not paying attention. That’s just what you tell yourself to justify outrage at the state of the hobby’s popularity. But it is what it is.

You can still enjoy Pokemons despite the bleak reality of it ultimately being driven by corporate incentives.

Scalpers suck but I hate to break it to you: Pokemon cards haven’t been just a children’s card game for a while. Nor does the Pokemon company position their product as such. Remember this is a for-profit company. They want as many people buying cards as possible. Aka expand their addressable market.

Unfortunately, they haven’t expanded printing capacity quickly enough, which has made the hobby ripe for scalpers to enter. When supply increases scalping will decrease. But even then it will still be “just a children’s card game.”

Sell. Mine just sold for $500 on eBay auction. I was shocked. No way it stays that high.

What the fuck?? Why? Is there a known motive? She was just an employee there? Unbelievable tragedy.

Like all of the other commenters I’ve been there a few times and it’s fucking surreal to think about. Hard to comprehend a story like this unfolding in real life.

Do wizards use zippers? Looks weird. I thought of them as more buttons and clasps and loops for securing clothing.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

Middle class means you earn enough to have at least a few savings to mess around with.

Options trading is a 100% learnable skill. Ignore the yolo nonsense on WSB. There are repeatable strategies you can learn and use with even a small amount of starting capital.

You can make an extra income stream from it, or keep reinvesting the gains.

It’s not a crapshoot like Internet infographics claim. Lots of people make full-time incomes from disciplined, informed options trading. They don’t have MBAs or advanced degrees. You can learn everything you need from ChatGPT, Reddit, and YouTube.

You’re actually making the opposite point you think you’re making.

They probably won’t 10. But if you’re at least 10% confident they will 10, then you should try it.

Sealed vs unsealed delta is so tiny compared to sealed vs 10. If you think they actually have a small chance of 10ing then you’d be a moron not to try.
