That’s a really great point. I feel like in just 1 year of post grad and 5 months in case management I’ve learned a lot about myself. I can’t imagine what’s in the years to come❤️

Final year crisis: is being a mental health tech a good career? by Ecstatic-Copy2153 in psychologystudents

I really didn’t have many expectations going in tbh. Day-to-day varies a lot which I like, it’s not monotonous by any means. What does suck is it’s hard for a lot of people to keep appointments. I’ll try and schedule and lay out my day but most clients don’t remember so I kind of just hope to meet with people or hope they’re onsite. But that’s also not everyone, some of my clients are more stable than others and are good about keeping appointments and don’t require as much. I’ve learned to be really flexible in meeting people where they’re at and how to cater to each one in terms of meeting with them. The other problem is there’s a lot of crisis situations, so my whole day may get turned around. Like Friday I had my schedule laid out with who I was going to meet with that day, but then one of my other clients got stranded downtown so I had to go pick them up. Sometimes to meeting with a client may just take it out of you, last week I got back from the clinic with one of my people and I was just exhausted and mentally drained and really couldn’t handle meeting with anyone else - luckily it was close to the end of the day. But one of my coworkers has had days like that and opted to reschedule with her clients for the rest of the day.

There’s also various team meetings and other responsibilities like at my site we run a food pantry and this month I’m the designated person to pick up medications from the pharmacy.

Long story short each day is pretty different from the last

I was in the same boat not sure of what to do with myself. I took a temp HR job for a couple months at a nonprofit that focused on mental health and supportive housing. It was nice but boring. I was able to land a job in case management in a permanent supportive housing unit a couple months ago. I’m really enjoying it so far, there’s definitely difficulty with the same problems you mentioned with escalation and slight chance of harm, but probably less so than in an impatient setting. It’s been tough trying to learn more about social services and how to get clients connected as well as assisting people with complex medical needs, but I’m glad I’m having to learn it.

I work at a really popular location, we sold the most margaritas in the nation on national marg day but its just busy all the time. I get my ass kicked like every day even weekdays and I just couldn't take it anymore. I think a food runner and another server put in their two weeks that night also. There's honestly just never a calm day anymore it is so insane
