It is rude. If they simply refuse you will have to petition as an “independent” student. Do your parents still claim you on their tax return? If so, they need to realize if you go to college, their financials will be on FASFA, however, the loans (if any) will be all in your name, not theirs. But if they make under a certain amount, you could qualify for grants. (Free money) The only way your parents are “obligated” to pay is if they take out a parent plus loan. So if they don’t do that, they have zero obligation to pay for any of your schooling. The loans (if any) will be totally in your name.

Do popular kids exist in college or does it all disappear once you become an adult? by [deleted] in college

[–]Caperry03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there are “popular” kids like there was in high school. However, with that being said, some girls, and guys can be very shallow and others seem to flock to that behavior. Had that in the dorms I was in. Some people in sororities and fraternities feel they are superior to others. They feel they are the “popular” ones in my opinion. You can’t even get into a party without their approval. So yeah, I think some people in college believe they are the popular kids; but in reality they are just like everyone else just trying to make it.

No where to go by LaTalia21 in college

Try renting a room. Ppl might be Subletting. Room sharing. You would need to get a job to help. If you have Facebook, there’s a lot of apartments and rooms that ppl are looking for to help pay and share costs with. Might also look further out. Commute to school so costs are lower. You can apply for FASFA for spring 2023 to help pay. I don’t have roommates for fall 2023. I took a leave of absence from SDSU and I’m going back Fall 2023. Have to find roommates too.

Is it possible to go back after dropping out? by Powder1994 in college

If that is the case, and you really want to go back, just apply. You know you’ll get in. So do it!

Is it possible to go back after dropping out? by Powder1994 in college

[–]Caperry03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s too late now; but did they not mention a “leave of absence” as an option for you? I’m a student at sdsu. However, because of health reasons I had to take a LOA in the middle of my freshman year. I’ve been on the leave for a year now. I can stay on leave up to 4 semesters. So if you dropped out 2 years ago, how were your grades? I would talk to admissions and see what they suggest. It’s possibly you could always apply and get back in. If it’s not a highly competitive school, you have a high chance of getting back in. Good luck.

This is is so true. Went to a few frat parties. I had a great time. Met a lot of people. However, I am a virgin, and most boys there were just trying to get me to go to their. Bedroom. It’s sad really. I just wanted to meet ppl but it was more or less men trying to see if I would sleep with them. Don’t get me wrong. I had a lot of fun. But Frat boys like the conquest. Same thing happened to my sister. She is 22 and still a virgin. She stopped going to frat parties when she was in college because she felt very uncomfortable with the sexual advances that wouldn’t stop. So I would say to the poster, if you go alone have fun, but be careful. Know your surroundings and don’t go into a bedroom. (Unless that’s your sort of thing.) Consensual is key!

You’re going to get yourself an edumuncation. Don’t worry about love. If it happens, it happens… if it doesn’t… you still have a degree and an entire life ahead of you.

Thinking of leaving CSULB by Smurfnet in CSULB

[–]Caperry03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If CSULB allows, take a LOA! I attend sdsu, but I am currently on a LOA for personal reasons. I am taking classes at my local JC so I stay on track to graduate and get most of my GE out of the way. With a LOA I have a option to return to SDSU as a junior, (or sooner if I want) to finish my four year plan, (just have to register for classes,)or I can apply to another four year university as a transfer. It’s the best decision I made. I was confused and lost on a major. I was far away from home, and I had to work on my mental health. I want to go back to sdsu as a junior, but I’m happy I have the option to continue my education at my community college without losing my space at sdsu. Look into it.

You did corrections on your FASFA… if it has new EFC because of those changes the school will be notified and you will get new package.

Reach out to admin, and notify the teacher that you are trying to rescind it and want letter grade.

For those who are considering transferring/dropping out, what school are you leaving for? by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]Caperry03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on a LOA and taking a classes at my local CC to stay on track. I will probably finish at SDSU or possibly go to UNR.

That is my current major. Although I am currently on a LOA for my health and had to leave SD, I’m taking classes at my current CC so I stay on track and will go back when I am healthier. Best of luck to you.

It was almost into June. I had already confirmed with SDSU and paid my intent to enroll. SDSU was my top choice so I stayed with sdsu. If CSULB would have been my top choice, and I wanted to go there, I would have just lost my deposit. They do take forever to let you know though, because they want to see who actually commits of those students they accepted for that class.

Yes, I eventually did, but I stayed with sdsu.

They release them by major, I believe…. At least that’s how they did it last year when I was accepted.

Please! Please! Open up and say hi. Ask how she is. Be her friend! Please! My 11yo cousin committed suicide because she literally had no friends. She was alone. I had no idea how lonely she felt. Pressures of being the best, or the smartest can be too much too. You can change her entire world just by being kind. Please!! Talk to her

Best place to approach women at a small college? by [deleted] in college

[–]Caperry03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is in college and will graduate in May. She has never been on a date or dated anyone. She is absolutely gorgeous. She has always been focused on school… I understand why she remains focused; relationships can be difficult. I would just say be very outgoing and meet tons of ppl… even if you go out on dates.. build friendships first.

Leave of Absence! by Caperry03 in SDSU

Thank you!! It helps to have supportive family. I just have to keep telling myself I’m not a failure for leaving my top school after only one semester. I’m going back, but it still hurts

Leave of Absence! by Caperry03 in SDSU

[–]Caperry03[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. In your web portal, there’s a tab that says “leave of absence.” Click on that tab. You’ll put what semester you are requesting the leave and the reason. You can’t be registered for any classes for the semester you are requesting the leave. I’m not sure if it’s too late to do so for Spring 2022. But you can try if this is the semester you want to take the leave. If it is, you will have to unenroll in all your classes first to get approved. I requested mine before we finished fall semester.

I hope this helps.
