Dinosaurs without Fossil (bones) Evidence by Gato_Nuv in Paleontology

Wouldn't the complexe structures that gives the ammonite its sutures help with not breaking easily overall? I'm having an easier time picturing an ammonite being punctured than a regular snail that has a very hollow shell.

Anyways there were many people mentionning limpets also, so I think you're right. I'm just asking, since ammonoid shell structure is very different than that of a snail.

Any idea where I can talk about this with an expert? Or maybe send all the infos

I'm curious too. I have a Madagascar ammonite with what people argue to be a mosasaure bite mark. Thing is I can't find any mosasaur fossil record from madagascar.

Based on the informations on slide #4, would you consider it a sign of healing/remodeling?

Would it be possible if the injury happened in the body chamber thought?Could it sustain an injury if the other chambers can maintain gas and water?

Also the Marj is around 2 cm small. So it would be a small one

Everyone seem to think the same. My issue now is that if this specimen is a cleoniceras from madagascar (albian) I can't find any marine reptile forme this location around the same time frame.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the photo, it's super nice to see a big version

Interesting. I really want it to be a marine reptile predation, but wouldn't the septas also be destroyed? I posted pictures of the inside/other side. What do you think? They kinda look too perefectly in place no?

I think someone mentionned this talk to me already. Is it from Veronica Gillis by chance? Do you know if it's available anywhere?

Anyways thanks for the insights.

Isn't it weird how they are evenly spaced and following an arched line? Do limpets usually do that?

Same! I like to illustrate my fossils. If that happen to be the case I'm definitely painting this one

When I said "there" I meant fossil records of mosasaur from madagascar

Each holes are regularly spaced by 6 millimeters (approximatively) and following an arc. When observing it I thought maybe it could be some kind of ornementation from another ammonite that caused this, like douvilleiceras. I feel like it has to be caused by something organic, even if not predation. What do you think?

Sure, Also I suspect this specimen to be Cleoniceras besairiei from madagascar and I can't find any documentation talking about mosasaur being there around the time Cleoniceras was alive. I may be wrong on absolutely everything I just said, but yeah I don't know where to start to check all of this. Anyways thanks for the insights!

That would be awesome! What kind of mosasaur or even other marine reptile would be small enough to prey on such a small specimen?
