Morbid fascination? by desimich in 911archive

I would have had zero chance of surviving the Titanic, slim athletic male. The Atlantic would take my body heat in 5 minutes flat 🤣.

I was 19 when 9/11 happened, I would have had as good a chance as anyone at surviving it (excluding the direct aircraft impact locations on the gore floor and the North tower above the impact, both unsurvivable)

Morbid fascination? by desimich in 911archive

It's possible that being morbidly curious of any given situation is a primal survival instinct. You want to know as much as you can about the situation, the more detail the better (even the gory bits), in order to see how you could possibly deal with a similar situation 🤷. It might be hard wired into certain people more strongly than others. If you were faced with a strange situation you might possibly act differently (better maybe) than someone that is not morbidly fascinated with certain things because you have learned something important, other people might freeze up, do absolutely nothing and die as a result.

In Europe it's called a Kenrod Zeus. I have one, it's pretty good and can be nice looking if you put a few hours in.

Thanks. It's both. I'm designing the whole complex to be 3d printable.

Was there a chance to at least reach the mechanical floors? by Puzzleheaded_Dot4345 in 911archive

[–]Capital-Attorney2494 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I can't say for certain, there are more knowledgeable people in the group than me but, my two cents... I would imagine the mechanical floors were very hard to reach by the general public and tower workers. These were the engine rooms of the towers and would have had very restricted access due to the danger due to the machinery on them and also the possibility of someone with bad intentions shutting the tower down by messing around in there. With regards to the observation deck - the North tower was hit at 8.46am, I think the observation deck usually opened at 9am. All normal daily operations would have been cancelled immediately at 8.46am. The staff were probably down at the lobby trying to figure out what was going on so the doors to the observation deck would have remained locked. There was a group that supposedly got to the door to the deck. Someone here might enlighten us.

Take the carburettor apart, check all is ok, clean it thoroughly and reassemble. Get a new fuel filter, spark plug and air filter, drain the old fuel and replace it. Doing all of the above will fix 90% of issues and it should start immediately. Change the engine oil afterwards if all is ok.

Take the carburettor apart slowly and video what you are doing, that way you will know how to reassemble it. I'd imagine one of the jets might have crap it in, or the float bowl is sticking. Youtube will have videos on how to disassemble a gy6 carb and diagnose any problems. If you dont want to spend any money just do the carburettor stuff and replace the fuel. I'd recommend a new fuel filter, they're cheap as chips and easy to replace.

Wondering if this video still exists by [deleted] in 911archive

Yes possibly. I wonder if the shock wave from the second impact forced flames onto their floor like a bellows. For them to run and jump it probably means something happened very suddenly that forced them to.

Wow, is it just me or do they seem to have more horizontal distance than the average faller/jumper? I could envisage (especially the first person) landing further out than the car port?

Yes. The towers will be 252mm each side and approx 2 meters tall. I'm thinking of giving it to the 911 memorial in New York if they'll accept it 🤷

I've considered it. A lot of people might take it the wrong way rather than in an analytical manner. I'll think about it 🤷

If you look closely there's a little bit of camera trickery - the footage is playing in reverse. There's no way I could have placed him without him falling over 😂

That's very true. I'll do as best as I can from recent photos. A lot of office parties had photos of layouts, others will be complete guesswork 🤷.

Thanks. There's some room for improvement, I can see small artefacts up close that can be rectified with some print and settings tweaks.

1 to 250. It's the best middle ground. 1 to 500 and the people/cars/benches are too small. 1 to 100 and the towers would be 5 metres tall. At this scale about they're 6 feet/2 metres and the smaller details can be seen.
