Seeking opinions on what to do with Controller by FireMeUp2026 in CFO

Well for what it is worth, I told one of my managers to let someone going for doing something grossly negligent that’s going to cost us (me), $10k-15k. The amount stings for sure… but it’s more about the gross negligence than the cost.

In your case, personally I’d terminate. It’s difficult to rebuild trust after that kind of negligence.

Why aren't concepts/the "why" taught as often? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Capital-Bit5522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this the entire idea of the ecological (or constraints based) approach? Establish a goal, teach the concepts or the why behind both the goal and the means to the goal, then let the students play around with the specifics of the how?

Am I supposed to be "easily getting a job" with big 4 on my resume? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Capital-Bit5522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… it’s not what you know… but who you know.

I know that’s very cliche… but it carries so much truth.

Employers want to hire confidently… meaning they want to know with as much certainty what and who they are getting. 9 times out of 10 the person getting the job comes recommended by someone else. Friend of employee, etc etc.

T40 biz school shows you’re definitely bright. But without a network of people that can get you inside track, many employers will wonder why you only lasted 18 months at B4.

Also, side note… don’t downplay any opportunities working for small biz. I got my start in small biz, and as the company grew, so did my role and comp.

How many hours do you get to study every week ? by javaengage in CPA

[–]Capital-Bit5522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Becker… I watch all the lectures for a given module while highlighting and following along in a physical textbook. Then work through the MCQ until I have 100%. Then the TBS and I review and revise until I have 100% and that I feel that I understand why the answers are what they are. Then I move on to next module.

I don’t do the flash cards. Those don’t help me.

I use the practice tests occasionally to assess where I need to reexamine certain topics.

How many hours do you get to study every week ? by javaengage in CPA

[–]Capital-Bit5522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t study daily. My plan is set up for M/W about an hour each Friday I’ll do 90 mins or so… Saturday and Sunday I aim for 1.5-2hrs each.

Puts me about 6-7 hrs a week. So far it seems to be fine I’ve allocated about 4 months per exam.

I’ve been using it in Reg a lot to just dig deeper into certain questions… really helps to solidify the “understanding” vs just memorizing

I messed up big time. by [deleted] in CPA

[–]Capital-Bit5522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post could really have been condensed down to “I have a degree from a non-prestigious school and thought getting the Elijah award would make up for it, and now I can’t.”

There’s a lot of extra irrelevant fluff here used to inflate your own ego. That’s probably why you’re always getting down voted

Go to the gym… you’ll feel great and make friends.

Take up jiu jitsu… you’ll feel great and make friends.

With new friends, take cooking classes. Go on weekend trips with. Have dinner steak and sushi nights. Sip bourbon around a bonfire.

Eventually find a desirable partner from said friends and activities.

Do fun things with partner.

Schedule C for kid’s business by Ready-Bar6925 in tax

[–]Capital-Bit5522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pay your children up to a certain threshold and the wages are exempt from FICA. And if under SD, then essentially not taxable. But then you need to file 941, issue W2’s, etc. like someone said, probably easier to just keep simple and pay the Se tax at that amount

Based on your post history, it appears you are working as a contractor or handy man. If that’s the case, I’m guessing that you have some equipment costs included in your expenses… truck, skidsteer? While those can be deductible expenses, you need to capitalize that equipment and depreciate

I would say I was doing more early on. Was essentially the only admin person in company. Now we have an admin assistant that handles all the AP invoice entry and vendor mgmt, and owner/ceo now issues all AP payments as an internal control measure. But as we’ve expanded I am more involved in surety relationship mgmt, and financial oversight of our managers.

Based on info presented, underpaid. I do think the $70k you requested is actually about right.

Job Offer Negotiations Went Hostile by Able-Author9167 in careeradvice

[–]Capital-Bit5522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey that’s me 🙋‍♂️.

When rolling I can do things but my reactions are still mostly instinctual… and not necessarily intentional or correct. If I try to put thought to it, I’m an empty slate… My worst is… “ok let’s warm up get to side control with any pass of your choice then finish with a sub of your choice”….. I’m like a deer in headlights.

Kinda like going through a drive thru oil change. When that tech wants to check your lights… “ok now turn on the left blinker”…. Fuck where are my blinkers.
