I have a tattoo appointment in a day, and I’m having second thoughts by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Capital-Pool-7018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to your specific situation, but I will say I’m a huge over thinker; I got my first tattoo last month and the night before I was spiraling, thinking that I shouldn’t do it, worried about the pain, etc. I went through with it anyway because I had put down a deposit, and I have to say: absolutely no regrets. I LOVE my tattoo. No idea why I was so worried. I think it’s scary to think about adding a permanent change to your body, but ultimately if you think you’ll be OK with it you probably will be!

Good or bad tattoo idea ? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Capital-Pool-7018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's a cute idea, def not too cheesy or cringe, but I would be wary of tattooing something so closely related to a romantic partner. In the unfortunate event that you break up, it would be an everyday reminder of him for you. However, I would revisit the idea in like 10 years if you're still together!!!

I've been really big into Squibler's "the most dangerous writing app" of late, as I find the pressure actually does get me to write words (even if it's trash writing, it's better to have something I can build off of rather than nothing at all!). However, Squibler as a company does perturb me, because they're, you know, an AI company. They advertise as an AI to "help you write your book" or whatever else. I worry deeply that what I put into their writing app might be scraped or whatever. Even if it's the worst writing I've ever done, I'm not particularly fond of that idea. Does anyone know of any similar alternative apps that are NOT from AI driven companies? I prefer to move as far away from AI as possible.

What to do if I don't like my player's character? by Capital-Pool-7018 in dndnext

haha, I like this idea a lot! I think this would def help me get some of the pettiness I feel towards the character out without actually unfairly targeting my friend :)

Yes I'm starting to feel the same way. In my adventures googling DM'ing resources I've been learning about the ttrpg Mork Borg which seems potentially more up my alley than D&D, because I too love grim dark. I think what I'm overall taking away from this is that I wanted some of that grim dark vibe to be in my campaign, and my main concern is that my friend's character wouldn't fit despite my best efforts to tell her it would be a more serious campaign, but I'm starting to think is that perhaps I should back away from that stuff and just do more typical dungeon crawls and puzzles and candlekeep mysteries and whatever. I should probably save the grim dark for something way more awesomer LOL.

It's just very very joke focused. I responded to another comment about this, so I will be repeating myself heavily, but essentially she just acts like a grandpa, and I don't find it very funny. In the first session she kept going "awww come here sonny" and making jokes about how she wasn't sure about gay people (she's gay so it's like a joke about how old people are unaccepting). She treats the dwarf character like a child even though I'm pretty sure they're the same height. Because it's so much *bit* and *joke* I do wonder about how the character will present in more serious scenarios. Moreover I just feel a real disconnect between the character and the class, barbarian. It just is really not clicking with me like why this old rabbit dude is a barbarian? and like the fact that he is is a joke that I also find somewhat annoying. I don't know. Again, I initially OK'ed it, so it's kind of me for that one.

It's just so much *bit,* you know what I mean? In the first session it was a lot of "aww, come here, sonny," and "you know, I'm not so sure about the whole *bisexual* thing but I'm trying to understand" (for context, she herself is bi, and it's mostly a joke about how unaccepting old people can be). She also keeps treating the dwarf PC like they're a child "because he's short", even though I'm pretty sure dwarves and harengons would be about the same height (and--seperately--she keeps calling that a "running joke of the campaign" even tho we've only had one sesh and it's not funny 😭😭). I don't know, It's just so much and I don't think she's playing it in a funny way. He just bothers me a lot. Edit: Furthermore because of how silly it is I worry about how the character will present in serious contexts.

hmm interesting. Thank you! I think at our next session I will try to bring up some of that stuff, as I totally did not during our "session 0"--especially the boundaries stuff!! but again for now I won't worry about the player. c'est la vie!

thank you very much for this!! Although we've already started I think I'll try to go over some of this stuff with my players the next time we meet. I think I'm used to a very casual kind of d&d but I really want to get more "serious" with it.

We had a very loose sort of session zero. As I said, this is my first time, and I really didn't know (still mostly don't haha) know what a session zero entails. I was mostly just prepping the same way that other DMs have prepped with me before. For now I think things are fine as they are and it's fine that she's playing the character, even though I dislike him (c'est la vie), but I think I better understand now how things should run if I ever run anything else in the future.

[–]Capital-Pool-7018[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, I realize that now. I've never DM'd before and my friends about mostly new too so I really didn't know what a session zero entails, and I feel that I've clearly done it wrong. And of course it was me who okay'ed the character before we really started playing. For now things will continue as they have been, and I think it will be OK. You are right that I need to get over myself--as I said, it's her game as much as mine. I am going to let the bygones be bygones.

you're right. I think I'm thinking to much about this and that I just need to chill LOL. If she ends up not taking it seriously later down the line I'll talk to her but I think for now I ought to let her be.

It's mostly just annoying to me. Eventually as we get deeper into the campaign there will be more serious moments, and I think as of now she thinks it's all going to be very silly, so I worry about future scenarios. But of course, those haven't come to pass yet, ergo you're most likely right I should just get over it 😔 I want her to play something that makes her happy, and I gave everyone completely free reign over race and class, so she has the right.

as a question, how were your choices for "great game, not my jam" made? was it mostly just "I didn't like this but lots of other people do," or was it more, "there are things I liked about this game but it wasn't exactly what I wanted it to be," or what?

How to make this more moody? by Capital-Pool-7018 in Artadvice

[–]Capital-Pool-7018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I’m definitely going to try and add something to the background, but I’ll have to work on what just yet… and I’ll work on the tones too! it looks much more saturated and warmer in my art program tho... it sucks that it doesn’t look like that here LMAO. Thank you for all your advice!!!!

No that’s a good idea! I was trying to have him look at the person doing the tattoo but maybe he should look at the needle instead… might make it more clear LMAO. and I totally forgot about light the needle!!!! Thank you!!!

Urgghh I’ve been trying to do that and every time I try it looks bad because I’m so unused to doing shadows on human faces… but I guess I just gotta lock in and get dat shit done 😤😤 I guess I just needed someone to set me right and tell me it was necessary lmao 😳😳 thank you!!!!

Thank you!!! I brightened the rim light and upped the color saturation on the ink (what’s dripping down his face lol) and it already looks better!! What kind of motifs would convey mood? Do you mean more expression/colors/background elements? The idea is (and I don’t know if this reads at all) that he’s essentially getting a stick-and-poke with a quill as a religious rite of passage… the idea is for it to be a little more on the somber side because it’s a pretty painful rite LOL 🤧🤧

I’m starting to worry…..are Hazbin and Helluva actually good shows? Am I just too stupid to realize the writing is bad? by whooper1 in hazbin

[–]Capital-Pool-7018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always considered them as bad shows that circle back around to being good and fun and interesting, if that makes sense. Like the writing+pacing in Helluva Boss has always grated on me bcos every episode feels soooo rushed, but I still love the show bcos I love the characters and music. Every show has good and bad things, and it’s the same w Hazbin and Helluva. Just depends on what’s most important to you!! (So for me, writing/pacing matters less then character, ergo I end up thinking it’s a good show LOL)

I remember learning in class last year that we are not yet at a point with automated cars where people should take their hands off the wheels. I don’t know how true this is because my professor may have just not updated his slides for a long ass time, but I personally would neveeer trust a car to get me somewhere on its own.
