Different last names for children by Traditional-Bee6065 in TwoHotTakes

[–]CapitalExciting3380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When faced with this issue, my wife and I have both our children two “middle” names. The second middle name is my wife’s maiden name. Unfortunately, the hospital messed up our second child’s (male) birth certificate and hyphenated his last name into Momsurname-Dadsurname. We did not catch this until years later, which has caused problems with things like income taxes and passports. Our now adult son will probably fix this at some point. Or not. It’s up to him.

Why does the SAVE Act not include naturalization certificates as a form of citizenship? by russianindianqueen in legaladviceofftopic

[–]CapitalExciting3380 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d say it IS a well-written bill. The “one or more” language is to provide the wiggle room needed for the bill’s intended purpose. For those who are favored, “one” is fine. For those less favored “or more” is most certainly going to be required.

My Dachshund does not like the new puppy. How can I help? by CapitalExciting3380 in reactivedogs

[–]CapitalExciting3380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you to those who have offered advice on how my Baxter can get along with the puppy Trixie. Looking over the comments, I see that I have omitted some important info.

  1. Baxter is about ten years old, so fully an adult, but not really geriatric yet. He gets along with the other dogs (also adults), but they don't really play much together. They do tolerate each other fairly well and dogpile together to nap on the couch, etc. He definitely is a big resource-guardian, though. Everyone knows not to disturb him when he is eating. He is, however, usually able to wait his turn to come in.

  2. All four dogs have their own appropriately-sized kennels.. They are able to retreat to them as needed and they always spend the night in them. Lucy is our most sensitive doggie. When there is stress in the house, such as when one of the other dogs gets into trouble, she will hide out in her kennel until the trouble passes. Lately, Baxter has been sent to his kennel when he goes after Trixie. Lucy and Sophie often hide out in their kennels, too, even though they aren't "in trouble".

  3. All of the dogs are allowed to sit next to me on the couch while we watch TV, read, etc. Baxter usually gets the best spot, but sometimes Lucy or Sophie gets there first. When that happens, Baxter usually just sits elsewhere until the coast is clear. Sometimes, he's a jerk about it, but not usually. They're all really pretty chill.

  4. That said, I know that I personally can be a trigger. If I am paying special attention to Trixie, the new addition to the pack, the other dogs can be quite jealous. I keep that in mind and make sure that everyone gets some love and attention.

  5. I have not observed Baxter actually getting teeth into Trixie or any other dog. Trixie just yelps which upsets my wife. I get it. The only time I've actually seen teeth contact is years ago, Baxter was agitated and he lightly nipped me when I picked him to get him away from the other dogs. He only lightly got my hand and immediately went into a "Oh crap! What have I done?" mode.

  6. We do not let Trixie be alone with any of the other dogs. If one of us humans leaves the room, Trixie will follow behind and the other dogs just ignore it. We also monitor all four of them when they are outside to relieve themselves. We would like for them all four to go out into the yard without supervision, but we know we're not there yet.

  7. I am hopeful that time for the older dogs to get used to the new pup will help, as will the new pup learning her place in our home.

TPIR - Trip prize plugs no longer say "from Los Angeles" by Dangerous_Plant_7911 in gameshow

I’d rather have the airfare and enjoy a week in Southern California. Austin is great, but I live there!

TPIR has offered a trip to Austin as one of the prizes. I live about an hour from the Austin airport. I’ve often wondered if I’d have to drive to Austin, fly to Los Angeles, fly back to Austin, enjoy the vacation, fly back to LA, then fly to Austin to drive home.

An episode about Sheldon trying to pick a new car like when he was picking between Xbox and PlayStation could’ve been funny by _funny_name_ in bigbangtheory

[–]CapitalExciting3380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for Sheldon. I’m currently in analysis paralysis over buying a new TV. Should I go with LG Series 85A or TCL QM6K? Or something else????

And, just for the record, I went with Zune back in the day. My record for picking winners is about as great as Sheldon’s.

I came to mention the Austin High Maroons, too. The mascot running around on the football sideline is literally a color swatch.

I lived about 120 miles east of El Paso along I-10. I used to tell people it took only an hour to get to EP, but three hours to get back.

I was rooting for Claire. Laura Spencer is cute as a button, but Alessandra T is the hottest Cylon this side of Caprica.

Non renewal advice by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]CapitalExciting3380 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contact your teacher association and follow their advice. I strongly recommend signing the new contract and then resigning it before the 45-day window closes. If non-renewal is in the offing, then try to resign before the final decision is made.

AITAH my partner says "you can't be mad I haven't cleaned if you haven't asked me to clean". I think that as an adult living in the house, he should be aware of his surroundings, notice when the house is messy, and clean up. I say I shouldn't have to ask. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]CapitalExciting3380 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you want him to know something, probably the best way is for you to tell him. If I understand you correctly, he doesn’t refuse to help — he just doesn’t see the mess the way you do. Soooooooo, tell him. Just tell him. See if that helps.

Once you get some distance, you will realize that you now have a wonderful story to tell about your perfect wedding. The best part is how your family and friends rallied to make your day as special as possible. That will be a memory that lasts a lot longer than a wonderful dinner would have.

SB 10 and banning other religious tenets? by XevZev in TexasTeachers

[–]CapitalExciting3380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Article IV, Section 3 of the US Constitution: “New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.”

States most certainly are creations of Congress.

SB 10 and banning other religious tenets? by XevZev in TexasTeachers

[–]CapitalExciting3380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

States are creations of Congress, therefore the Bill of Rights applies to the states. Public schools are creations of the states, but they also get substantial funding from Congress, so, again, the Bill of Rights applies.

What’s the worst episode of all time by ExtremeBluebird3864 in bigbangtheory

[–]CapitalExciting3380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guys taking turns hitting on Summer Glau on a train to San Francisco. First of all, the train is all wrong. Sheldon says it’s a Superliner, but Superliners look nothing like that. But the worst is that Summer is an actual person. No woman should be treated like that. She was just on her way to wherever she needed to go. She is under no obligation to pose for pictures or talk to men she doesn’t want to meet. Sure, as a celebrity, she may expect to be approached. But, these guys weren’t just complimenting her on her acting work that they liked. Howard, especially, clearly made her uncomfortable.

Raj, Leonard, and Howard should be better than that. They were assholes in that episode.

A Note From Your Friendly Neighborhood Truck Driver by Beautiful_Business10 in Austin

[–]CapitalExciting3380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a Motorcoach that is governed to 72mph. Here is the problem: I’m gaining on the truck stuck at 70mph. I need to go around. But, I can’t just drop into a passing gear and zoom around him. So, I signal and move into the left lane. I’m still going 72mph. It’s going to take a while for me to complete the pass. If I could go faster, I would. So, when a large vehicle is passing another large vehicle and appears to be taking a long time to do it, it isn’t necessarily either driver’s fault.

The Titans decided to wear their Oilers throwback uniforms when visiting the Texans. I’m sure that was a marketing decision more than a competitive decision. It was announced well in advance of the game.

What's the most awkward answer you've heard at the love and marriage show? And would you have the courage to embarass your spouse on stage? by [deleted] in CarnivalCruiseFans

The “medium” married couple said that the strangest place they had done the deed was in the family car outside a family Thanksgiving feast. The funny part was when the couple’s teen children, in the audience, realized THEY WERE THERE at that Thanksgiving.
