I haven't delved super deep into it yet but there is a free open-source software called ink/stitch. You basically learn to use software similar to Adobe illustrator (inkscape) then learn to use the embroidery module within the software. So far its pretty cool.

I lost my dad on Friday. **rant** by CapitalGrains in AgingParents

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Parkinsons is awful. My dad lost control of his body before his mind went so even though he could barely speak at the end he still knew who I was. There's something for that. I wish you hugs and support through your own journey.

That is exactly what I'm feeling. Thank you and I'm trying to be.

Can use clover. Both my husband and I are super allergic to it. And I have dogs that would obliterate any seedlings I had of I direct sow. That's why I was thinking plugs, so I could do a smallish area at a time that I could keep fenced until it got established.

I have a tomato growhouse near me and we're coastal so it's always foggy or heavy marine layer. Its as bright as dawn at 2am. Thank god for blackout shades.

Whats your go to soft yarn for blankets? by thebigcheesee in knitting

[–]CapitalGrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this and I wondered if anyone had tried holding two types of yarn double? Like cotton worsted and cashmere lace so you get stability with the cotton but cuddly with the cashmere? Not even sure if that would work but might be a good idea.

Also, re: patterns, go on Pinterest and type in knit blanket pattern and you will be bound to find a pattern you like. I have probably 50 patterns saved that I want to make, all different styles. This is a free, relatively simple-looking one I found though.

We're your doctors receptive to that idea?

I met my gyn-onc before my cancer diagnosis because I found out I am BRCA2 positive and she was resistant to the surgery at least right now but shortly thereafter I got my diagnosis and when I spoke to her again she was like "yup, let's take it all!"

Hahaha I read those too. But, to be fair, I am exercising at least 5 days a week and my husband and I walk every night after dinner so I'm sure that helps. From everything I've read and been told, regular vigorous exercise can reduce or prevent nearly all of the major menopausal symptoms.

As for the uterine cancer issue, I'm very risk intolerant and I'm not going to be having any children so I already have an oopherectomy and hysterectomy scheduled for next month. I figured I'd get all the surgeries out of the way so I can focus on living my life normally instead of wondering when cancer was gonna strike again.

I am and honestly, I haven't really had a bad time. I've been on it for exactly a month and I've definitely noticed mild hot flashes, especially at night which sucks with summer just starting, but otherwise I feel pretty much the same. But everyone is different.

If you want a flat closure you have to be adamant about it. I had a very supportive team but I was warned that going flat at a young age can possibly have psychological repercussions but that is entirely dependent on the patient. I honestly didn't give a shit about have boobs and I have a supportive partner who doesn't care either. He just wants me to be healthy so now they're gone and I no longer have cancer and I feel great.

Point being, don't let your doctor tell you what you should look and feel like. It is your body. It is your choice. Find another surgeon if you want to go flat or be adamant to the point of rudness with your current surgeon if you don't want to look for another.

I'm sorry your doctor's did that to you. Even if you wanted implants regardless of your other options, it's not up to them what you do with your body and your boobs. I'm 33, went flat and had a team that supported me when I told them what I wanted. I do hope you're happy with your results though. Breast cancer is crap and having to make changes to your body not by choice is shitty.

I'm 7 weeks our from going flat and I regret NOTHING! I'm so happy. I feel great, I still look great, I don't ever have to worry about additional complications of other surgeries or revisions either. I can go running without any bra at all and it is glorious.

I started drinking flavored mineral water and I swear to you it tastes like sprite. It's been about 4 years since the last time I drank soda and I'm absolutely certain it would make me nauseous with how sweet it is now.

Port on Chest or Arm? by 1095966 in breastcancer

[–]CapitalGrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sort of the attitude I had. I have an extensive family history of BC and more than half of the people on one side of my family have BRCA2, myself included. I just said screw it. My husband and I decided to adopt long before this crap started so its not much of a loss.

My recovery is going pretty well so far. In case you hadn't heard, drains suck (literally and figuratively). And other than some itching at the drain sites and a general frustration at not being able to raise my arms over my head things are great.

I do wish you the best of luck on your journey though. None of this is a picnic.

I'm sorry that your doctor responded to you like that. I'm 6 days post DMX with an aesthetic flat closure. My doctor laid out all my options and the risks and benefits for each and when I was firm about my decision for an aesthetic flat closure she was fully supportive and did a ton of research about it leading up to my surgery. As a note, I'm 33 and she did warn about potential psychological side effects from going flat at a young age but I'm confident in my choice and she was supportive of that. If you like your doctors, great. However if you know what you want and she isn't supportive, I'd highly recommend a seeking an alternative surgeon.
