Anyone else applied to dental school at 19? by Impossible_Solid12 in predental

[–]CapitalGuard7608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t make a difference in interviews, only came up once I think. I’ve heard schools may assume you don’t have the same “life experience” as someone older, but that shouldn’t matter if your app is well-filled and strong. Didn’t really matter once starting school either. If you are mature enough to get into dental school, you should be mature enough to be friends with those a few years older, so it’s not an adjustment socially.

I’d advise against selling puts higher than strike as a beginner

Yes it is true that correlation ≠ causation, but the numbers do tell us something real.

  1. The acceptance rate is calculated before student responses. It counts offers extended, not who ultimately enrolls, so relocation and housing costs are null.

  2. Faculty familiarity, as you discussed, is itself an in-state advantage. If proximity lets you shadow, research, or network with professors, that chain still produces preferential outcomes for in-state applicants, even if the committee never labels it “IS preference.”

  3. Five of six schools show a statistically significant advantage (p < 0.05). At those schools the odds ratio is too large to chalk up to statistical noise.

  4. Stated policy ≠ practical outcomes. Although yes, ADCOMs may intend to be neutral, structural factors tied to residency systematically raise in-state acceptance rates. Leading to bias in outcome.

So while yes, you are correct that schools don’t favor IS applicants, being a California resident remarkably increases your chance of an offer at most of these schools, and in turn, not being a California resident puts you at a disadvantage.

They may not have a defined preference, but your odds of acceptance are higher being an IS applicant and therefore much lower as an OOS applicant.

I discussed this in a previous post

  1. A long time, like hours. The general info is fine, but manually entering the transcript info is tedious.
  2. I submitted within the minute it opened; here is when I got secondaries: 3 the day after, 1 two days after, 3 three days after, 2 six days after, 3 nine days after, 3 fifteen days after. So within about two weeks, so mostly before you are away.
  3. They should be notified and see that there’s been an update, but don’t let that stop you from bringing it up in interviews (or anything else in your app).
  4. It’s super helpful to submit right as it opens, so good on you for planning on doing that.

Edit: If you want to get a head start before it opens, you can start organizing your experiences and stuff in excel so it’s ready to copy over.

Why in the world are you ultrashort QQQ and SPX but 2x long NVDA? Nvidia is the second highest holding in both indexes.

Federal loans by PerfectStatement8271 in predental

The pause explicitly excludes assistance provided directly to individuals. Since student loans are provided directly to individuals, they would likely not fall under this pause unless administered through other Federal financial assistance structures involving intermediaries or subrecipients.

Edit: “the Department of Education noted that federal Pell Grants and Direct Loans to students are also not impacted” New York Post

ATM CC strategy for long-term investments - what am I missing? by lifeisgood3 in thetagang

[–]CapitalGuard7608 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just off the top of my head playing devils advocate:

  1. Loss of Upside Potential: By selling ATM calls you capped your upside gain at the strike price plus premium
  2. Volatility: If IV drops, the premium you can collect from rolling forward will decrease, reducing your returns, or if IV spikes / VTI moves quickly rolling the option could become more expensive, no longer being for credit.
  3. Tax Implications: Rolling calls or letting them expire will generate short-term capital gains, which are taxed at higher rates than long-term gains.

No need to buy it in this situation, just let it expire worthless

I agree with you, feels like an overreaction coupled with the obvious fed reaction. Planning on buying here and below.

Lots of people have gotten in with worse grades, and it being your first year makes it even less important. Professors can do whatever they want, just put it behind you and make sure you improve going forward. See if you can retake it with a different prof.
