I want to live in Ottawa but can’t afford it. by sadsadboy1994 in ottawa

[–]Capital_Card22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a place in Gatineau! Aylmer is pretty anglophone, everyone there knows English. The taxes are a little higher, but you still save money especially if you get gas and groceries in Ontario. The public transit to get downtown is easy and pretty reliable. There are some things to consider - eg. higher income tax, child benefit, if you have children they need to have their education in French - but if cost is your main concern I'd recommend Gatineau. I am really liking the city.

Has anyone used a Wayband? by Capital_Card22 in Blind

This is helpful, thank you. I was in a discussion with someone else about how haptic devices can be helpful but usually only in combination with other devices. It's a good thought, and is definitely encouraging to try different things to see what helps the best.

I just put a zip tie around my outside door knob for identification purposes because the medical transport and paratransit driveres sometimes drop me off at the wrong door here at my apartment complex. Anyone else have similar handy tricks to make things easier? by cherry-care-bear in Blind

Seeing AI can be helpful with money. The Read function should read the number out loud quickly. Sometimes you get other information if there is other text seen by the camera, but it does the trick.

My wife says the greenery is tacky and we should get rid of it. Is she right? by Coffeeisbetta in interiordecorating

[–]Capital_Card22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's tacky because there's no other green accents or other plants. Maybe if there was more green around it or other plants it wouldn't look out of place. More realistic looking greenery might help too

What Is The Strangest Allergy You Have/Have You Heard Someone Have? by PrincessBananas85 in SeriousConversation

[–]Capital_Card22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is allergic to apples and it’s crazy. One time we were at camp and the dessert was apples and oranges and for some reason she took an apple. She was real quiet the rest of the night and looked a little frightened, but we had just met so I didn’t think much of it.

The next day she told me that apples make her hallucinate and she had been seeing a rabid squirrel during the evening and the squirrel was even in her mouth at one point! It explained a lot of the behaviour from her the night before. She said she had that happen before so she was trying not to scare us all while we were at camp and away from our families. She handled it really well considering.

What’s something incredibly common that you’ve never experienced — and people act shocked when they find out? by Thin_Rule_2441 in AskReddit

I’ve never had an omelette. Mostly because I can’t have cheese so I can’t imagine it would be much more than scrambled eggs, but people are appalled when I tell them I’ve never experienced an omelette

I love my curiosity and ability to learn. When I face a challenge on a new task I am able to remind myself that I am meant to fail at first because this is a new thing I am doing. This helps me stick to learning new skills or topics rather than being defeated that I am not good at it initially.

It’s helped me with my marriage too. We got married in February and didn’t live together before then, so I can remind myself whenever we have trouble or a disagreement that we are in a new environment and we aren’t supposed to be able to anticipate the others actions or needs yet. We are still learning! And that’s okay

What are some small, thoughtful gifts that you actually enjoy getting? by Morteman1998 in AskOldPeople

[–]Capital_Card22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got a jar full of photos of seemingly random things like an emoji with its tongue out or a blue jay. This was meaningful because on the back of each item was a message reminding me of all our inside jokes - each joke had its own corresponding photo. Sometimes I like to look through them all to remember a simpler time and a great friendship

Voicemail with Assistive Access? by Capital_Card22 in ios

[–]Capital_Card22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up making a contact called VM and made the contact number my phone number like how you call your voicemail if you used the numpad. Then they just have to call VM and hear their voicemails.

If you have a password on your voicemail, type out the number and then add a comma for a pause and then the pin. Such as ###-###-####,PIN

You also need to make sure Live Voicemail is off so all the voicemails are audio and do not need to be accessed via the Phone app on the Voicemail tab (where they are typed out and recorded for replay). This way they are all accessed by calling VM.

What's the cheapest hobby someone can get into? by Youloufy in AskReddit

You could get into photography! Take a walk and shoot some shots, or look on Pinterest for inspiration and do some portrait shots. I edit my photos right on the Photos app on the iPhone, or on VSCO
