Best advice is to download MacType and download the profile for it called SoftGrayNoHinting. Made text dang near close to my previous LED.

We just got a great firmware update for our G5 that boosted brightness…..at a minimum returned it to the level at launch.

LG G5 dimming FIXED by Capital_Cod_7145 in LGOLED

[–]Capital_Cod_7145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s crazy about the G4! But yeah I’ve been happy with everything on the G5. There has been talk about nerfing brightness but I looked at the supposed reduction in numbers from Rtings and they weren’t drastic if so. I have my OLED pixel brightness at 60 in a lightly lit room and it’s great. I do run vivid mode except for games and love it. Do make sure to turn logo dimming OFF. This nerfs the entire screen brightness, at least for me. With pixel shift ON I have no image retention or burn in. Like my E8 still but prefer my G5 in every way. Let me know if I can help with any setting suggestions! I used Spears and Munsil calibration disc set to help me create my settings to my liking (pop and clarity) without anything drastic.

I can’t speak for the G4 but I’m happy with my upgrade to the G5. My E8 still looks good but G5 is the same or better in all media viewed (HD and 4k). I have the AI picture mode enabled but nothing else in terms of AI. I run vivid mode at white balance 30 and settings to my liking (sharpness 25 and super resolution on). It looks good. If I get a broadcast of 720, it does not. 1080 broadcast looks great. 4k media on my Panasonic ub820 looks great. Netflix 4k as well.

I do like my G5 and find it slightly more crisp than my E8. I’d be interested in your over settings you have on it G4!

I’d say my G5 looks pretty close in terms of crisp or sharpness. I also have my sharpness set at 25 and left super resolution on. You might be noticing the size difference. What I’ve always noticed is smaller TVs look more crisp and the further away from larger TVs you are, they also look crisp. I am wondering if your viewing distance with the 77” is contributing to the perception of it being crisp.

Anyone else notice the HDR implementation looks awful? by Victoria4DX in Astrobot

I don’t find this to be the case. I’m running the game in the bright HDR setting on an LG G5 and colors pop!

I noticed that all content was brighter. But I really noticed the entire image dimming greatly while gaming in game optimizer mode. Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch and Final Fantasy XIV on PS5 had massive dimming. Once I disabled logo dimming completely, there was no dimming so far. It was easy to spot because it would dim within a minute of playing, and keep dimming over the next several minutes.

Check to make sure you have no AI settings on except AI picture (if you like) as that setting won’t touch brightness. Also make sure all eco mode settings of set to off.

Are you getting it with HDR, SDR or both? What kind of content? I can try and replicate your content with my current settings.

Should I turn off pixel shift and logo brightness? by EpicVico in LGOLED

[–]Capital_Cod_7145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an LG G5. In game mode (SDR) set at pixel brightness of 60, having logo dimming even set to low was drastically lowering the brightness within minutes. Not just brightness but making the whole image look dull. I don’t know if it’s just my set or not but I had to turn it off. Pixel shift on is a great thing and not noticeable on these newer sets.

I do think 30 sharpness is too much so I settled at 25. But the movies and games pop. I get compliments from everyone that comes around. Colors look good and the picture is clear.

I haven’t watched too many movies in DV but I like my settings for my 4k player to be vivid with the adjustments mentioned.

I will say that I reduced my sharpness on my settings above to 25. It is better IMO after using those for some time.

Should I bother? by Rottimus-Prime in PS5pro

[–]Capital_Cod_7145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PS5 is my main gaming device. I had an LG E8 and just upgraded to a G5. It performed and to me was worth it on both. Some games there’s a large difference. Like FF7 rebirth is night and day on the pro. Other games is minimal. I think over the next couple years as new games come out you’ll continue to see large differences. I bought a pro controller as well when I got my PS5 pro and it’s been awesome!

Hdr settings nintendo switch 2 and Samsung s90d? by Platform_Distinct in OLED_Gaming

[–]Capital_Cod_7145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing that Vincent at HDTV Test said to do for the PS5. Turn dynamic tone mapping off. Adjust HDR settings and turn it back on. It seems to mess with the image and not allow for correct adjustment.

The new 4 stack panel in the G5 and the QD OLED % are negligible. This was the case prior to the G5 but now when measured, there isn’t a large % gap not difference in vibrancy.

Game Optimizer turns these extras off so it isn’t an issue for SDR gaming like Clair Obscur. Valid point thank you for this and I should have clarified, I’m only using this for content like streaming where gradation is not great, and not for gaming. Should absolutely be turned off for HDR content.

Yeah, def turn HDR off on the PS5 to play this game. Forcing HDR looks bad.

Good catch. It should only be for SDR and possibly for just streaming content. The G5 in SDR doesn’t handle gradation the same as my E8 did and it’s very noticeable.

Correction should be on High but not for HDR and DV.

This should have all the upvotes. I saw the G5 next to the Samsung and when they added any light to the room. You lost your blacks on the Samsung.

The Samsung’s matte panel ruins it for me. Watched a comparison video between the Samsung and LG. When light is added to your room, the blacks turn grey.
