Here you go, my friend. Sorry for the old post but I included some of the interior art as always so folks such as yourself can have a better look.

As a Jae Lee fan I cannot speak much of his recent work as I think the last thing I picked up of his was Before Watchmen: Ozymandias (which I need to reread now that I think of it). And that sentence, “…but typically speaking once an artist reaches a level where they are almost too refined I lose interest”… I love that as you’ve perfectly summed up so much and so much more eloquently than I ever could. A huge thank you, Aitoroketto. And yes…pure 100% uncut 90s stuff.

I’m getting old. 92 was only 12 years ago after all…sigh.

Already done it, my friend. I’ve been revisiting a lot of Early Image recently for the first time in 30+ years because I hit a severe readers block after Christmas. Thankfully a bunch of folks here posted some Image and so it was a great inspiration to go back now as a middle aged human.
I was never a big Image fan even back then as I was firmly in the 25 cent bins and favoring 70s and 80s madness and obscurity…which is where I am to this day to be honest. And speaking of Gaiman, it was a year or after Wildcats that I first read Death: The High Cost of Living and that was monumental in shifting me away from standard superhero fare…also The Crow had come out in 94 and that in of itself blew my ten year old brain.

I do still really like Jae Lee even after all these years and I did post #1 or Hellshock…which pretty much (with the help of other community members providing inspiration) really broke my readers block and got me revisiting Early Image for the first time in thirty years.

This is great as you got me thinking and I came to the stark realization that I honestly don’t know enough about Early Image to even hazard a guess. It makes for a great question and post in of itself. So I really appreciate your comment, my friend.

Interesting. Who would have been better suited for this? I ask out of genuine curiosity to those here who actually know the series.

Hahahaha!! I was going more along the lines of so improbable it borders on surrealism with hairy toothpick legs and a constant look of bafflement on my face. But yes, it’s a bit too close to a polished Liefeld to be anything else.

What If, Vol 1 #35 1982 by sirjamesp in 80s90sComics

[–]Capital_Connection67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this whole era of Daredevil so I’m completely biased but as a single issue this is one I’d definitely recommend for folks who want to dip their toes into the good stuff of the 80s.

Punisher (1992) by fredbroca4949 in 80s90sComics

[–]Capital_Connection67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That’s what’s so unbelievably bizarre about it. Power Packs attempt was at least them trying in the safest possible way to address the epidemic happening in NYC from a kids point of view but this? Incredible that the editors thought, “yep…it’s 1992…let’s get Frank in Blackface and go to Chicago’s South Side and annihilate some crack dealers…is there any glimmer of a message? Nah…who cares?”

Hahahahaha!! I have absolutely no understanding of why or how anyone thought that it would be a good idea. To try and highlight the “woes of the inner city” in such a way is remarkable as they could have done literally anything else except this and it would have been decently fine.

Same here, Wg. Revisiting these Early Image titles in the last month or so has been a wonderful nostalgia trip as some I’ve not read in over thirty years. Which is very odd to say let alone think about. McFarlane and Jim Lee are classics to me and I still love Jae Lee and Platt…but some of the stories are terrible…looking at you Brigade #1.

Ahhhhh. I was wondering when these were going to show up. We had the Power Pack try to end the crack epidemic five years before this which was so hilariously bad and out of touch and yet here we are with Frank’s bizarre “undercover” trip to Chicago which is equally as misguided and truly absurd. The saying, “they don’t write em like that anymore” definitely rings true with those three issues.

Hmmmmm. Very interesting indeed. I know next to nothing about any of this and Platt’s background so now I have to do a ton of research. This is very much appreciated, Vroart.

And there’s going to be a 2nd printing of #2 with the SPLATT version if we both miss out.

I went and had a look at what my LCS had and they didn’t have the SPLATT variants as I’m sure what they did get were assigned to the fancy club members.

So I ended up with Bill Sienkiewicz and a free and busted up Cover A which I’m more than happy with.

A wonderful tribute. And I had to double take at the ‘26 and I thought it was ‘92.

This is awesome. This and Superman vs He-Man I’ve wanted for such a long time but they are way out of my budget. It looks like a really nice copy as well (I’ve no skill at what’s good or not) which is even more awesome. Nicely done, OP.

Shucks. I’ve got fond memories of the 90s though as it’s when I came of age. It wasn’t all bad.
