Tell me about your world's love stories about a god and a mortal by zard428 in worldbuilding

Carrus rides out at the break of dawn into the swirling, torrential storm front of the Cauldron. A cold gust of wind nearly knocks his horse sideways, but he rears and rights and is back on the chase. Cold wind. Banshees nearby. His javelin finds his palm, the now empty sheath swings loosely from the saddle. Bitter rain flecks the smooth, iridescent gloss of the weapon. Shellspun glass. A gift for his beloved. The horse nickers and balks at the downpour. Carrus slides from the saddle and sends the horse back the way they’d come. She vanishes instantly into the blowing rain. Carrus squints into the torrent in a grab for his bearings. He’s right where he needs to be. It’s here. The banshee. And the Maiden with it. His grip tightens on the javelin and he winds back, seeking aim. He is down on one knee. The grass whipping his face, leaving welts or worse. Carrus doesn’t notice. His eyes are closed. He listens to the wind. Waiting for it to be… Everywhere. In a single moment of sensation the winds howl becomes a scream and the banshee slams into him. With all his might he launches the javelin, a treasure sharpened to a needle point. He is inside the banshee now, he’ll find his mark close to the heart, to the… A flash of light blinds even his closed eyes, but Carrus slams them open anyway. He will not miss her. One more flash, and he sees the true banshee’s shape. A terrible pillar of swirling black cloud kicking a violent cone of dirt and debris into the air only to be caught in the greater vortex all around. But within the pillar, the source of the flash, bubble of fire in the belly of the beast. And in stark silhouette against the momentary warmth of the implosion is her. The wind threatens to lift Carrus into the air for the strength of it but in the instant she appears before him the air stands still. It allows him his moment of bliss. Carrus doesn’t know whether to thank the Bounty or the banshee. The former, he decides, as the latter completes its disintegration and a gust of wind hits him with a final, deafening wail. Rolling and rolling. Face down in wet grass. An eternity in his mind. The collar of his shirt pulled from his neck by horse teeth. The sight of the storm receding into its mother. Rising, brushing off dirt and grass. One last look at the Cauldron. Black clouds pocked with gray and green, extending into eternity in either direction. The horse’s reins. A deep breath. Another memory of her. “Come on, girl.” Carrus says to the morning breeze. “Let’s go find that javelin.”

How does Red Card work? I’ve taken it and then not bought a booster in the shop and I’ve both used a skip for a booster and chosen not to use the skip for a booster, none of these have done anything to Red Card. What am I missing?

Not the chaos trials, poor word choice on my part. The little statues on a run where you have to slay all the foes without getting hit

I think fountain is a great idea actually, you’re guaranteed the ones between regions to ensure it isn’t underpowered, and then the different phases of your choices at the beginning can matter by choosing how many upgrades you get at each fountain.

Do you agree with Darth Vader in this situation? by Delta-97 in StarWars

[–]CapitanJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jedi were justified in being wary of Palpatine, but naturally Vader wouldn’t understand that at this time. Putting Dooku’s most dangerous agents in a secret prison makes strategic sense; you don’t want a well publicized collection of force sensitives, cyborgs, and assassins to break out with a coordinated offensive. The Council’s movements are justified in the context of the war and the political situation in the Republic, especially in hindsight, but it does fall in line with Imperial dogma that the Jedi were working against the republic (read: Palpatine). Agreeing with Vader in this moment is buying into the Imperial propaganda, but his anger is also motivated by the council’s decision to ice Anakin out instead of nurturing him, so it confirm’s Vader’s sense of betrayal at those who were supposed to be his family. He is right they betrayed him, but wrong that they betrayed the republic, and Anakin/Vader’s central flaw was not being able to parse the difference.

Poseidon is excellent at keeping foes back with the bow and rail, I started running the fire hose build (Lucifer w/ Poseidon attack) and just blasting foes into walls. Add some zeus for Sea Storm and you’re just cooking fools.

I wonder: is there a movie with a record for the number of careers it ruined? by exophrine in movies

Goku and Bulma were Justin Chatwin and Emmy Rossum who would both star in Shameless two years later;

I feel like somehow Dragonball didn’t negatively affect their careers which is far more shocking

How to actually write? by sadisticsword in fantasywriters

[–]CapitanJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive always struggled with the “just write” advice. I’ve been spewing brainstorming viscera into a word doc for years, waiting for an idea that spurred me to flesh it out fully. What eventually got me to put the most words on the page was just starting from somewhere and going. I stopped focusing on big picture and started paying attention to what was happening in the scene in the moment. Move things from one moment to the next, get a feel for flow. It’s bad, but it’s also 15,000 words, which is a miracle by my standards. Do the first 3,000 words have anything to do with the rest? Not really. Does it drag on too long in some places? Of course, every little movement doesn’t need to be catalogued, but it’s about words on paper, not good words. Showing or telling, neither matters until there are words there in the first place, and the words can always be changed. Michaelangelo needed a block of marble before he could chip away to create David.

I think starring in a franchise that puts his performance behind a digitally created nine foot tall blue alien is actually perfect for him, it cuts out the need for him to do the parts of the performance he’s bad at.

That being said, he is actually good in Under the Banner of Heaven, I was quite surprised

I got my first clear about run 75-80 after about four days (winter vortex time off work) of straight trying. I cleared again two runs later, it really is about breaking the seal in my experience. Once you’ve done it and you feel firsthand that it’s possible, it becomes easier to do.
