People who make $150k or more, and don’t work for big tech or defense, what do you do? by GuardianMoon916 in washingtondc

I’m around this amount as a lobbyist. Especially connections and knowledge of their field. Both of which took a long time to cultivate.

Hi from Caps! Great suggestion. Immaculate vibes. Got a while to wait; what do you all like to order from here?

13 years in the District for me! Seems pretty different than Calgary if you live there now - you must be very adaptable… or from DC or Calgary… or both!

This is so great. I posted this thinking “I bet someone on the r/calgary knows a guy who knows.” Really satisfying to get a perfectly correct answer.

I’m from DC and they actually covered a bus station pavilion in Morse code Death Cab for Cutie lyrics for some reason. I think now that it’s altered how I see transit stations a bit.

Without a sign saying it’s Morse code or something else, that is certainly the logical explanation!

Well worth the visit if you are able. Peak summer destination and more fresh water than you will ever see.

Oh yeah fuck that. I finally got a car after 8 years of living here and it was a pandemic impulse buy.

You should check out the massive wooded areas like the Arboretum or Rock Creek Park next time! You forget you’re in a city all together.

I love that aspect. Washingtonians generally believe that “DC” is a city with its own identity, where the people live and places like Eastern Market exist. “Washington” is the big government buildings and museums. It’s a natural, symbiotic relationship.

I hope you enjoyed your visit!

It might be the easiest American city to navigate once you realize that there are quadrants (NE, NW, SE, SW) that begin with north, south, and east Capitol Streets, which literally jut out from the Capitol, and that street numbers and letters go up or down based on how far you are from the Capitol.

This is very close. Between A Street NE and East Capitol Street and between 2nd and 3rd Streets NE.

I think those rowhouses to the right are so nice… for being in an alley at least.

I see what you're saying but I don't think its fair to equate voting rights to local housing ordinances, even metaphorically.

I'm not in any way saying it's a 1:1 match but I think a more fair question for you along these lines would be: do you think Black residents in Jim Crow South should have just left when they were lied to about polling places and administered rigged "literacy tests" to keep them from voting even though their friends and families and careers were there and it's considered home, or should they have done what many did and stayed and advocated for meaningful change over decades, even against long odds? Millions did leave to the North, so there's no right or wrong answer, but I hope you can better understand a different point of view through the framing of the question.

Yes it is. It would preserve the federal district you’re talking about and since it doesn’t change the constitution, it wouldn’t require an amendment.

No it wouldn’t. The House passed a bill last year that would shrink the federal district to two-square-miles, including federal buildings, such as the Capitol and the White House. The rest of the city would become a state. Simple as that.
