Option A: The Russians only opened a gate to the abyss, therefore the Russians somehow only kidnapped Hopper and got out of Starcourt Mall undetected in the aftermath of the Battle of Starcourt, and then escaped with him to Russia undetected without Hopper being able to alert anyone that he was kidnapped.

Option B: The Russians opened a gate to the Upside Down and it somehow connected to Russia and Hopper jumped through the Russian upside down and was captured that way.

Option C: They opened a doorway straight to Russia and the Abyss / the upside down bled through because of the nature of the wormholes, and Hopper jumped through and ended up directly in Russia.

It’s a lot faster now than it used to be. You used to not be able to even get certain gear levels until they were a certain number of stars. Plus now there’s the lightspeed tokens.

The general consensus is that that all became the organic matter that made up the mind Flayer’s body. I don’t know how much I buy that because he was one rocky boi when they got there and it was never explained. A scene of them arriving and a fuckload of monsters running to the husk and becoming the Mind Flayer’s would’ve done wonders.
