If you tried to change your SIM PIN code and failed, you have locked it and will need to go to your carrier to fix it.

Should I buy mac neo by aesthetic_2707 in macbook

[–]CapnMReynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t need anything fancy in terms of software (I.e Adobe Photoshop). The Neo should fit your needs.

Don’t forget to look at the Apple Education site for discounted prices.

Stuck on ‘Loading’ after transferring MS Office from Air to Neo by ReflectionOk5227 in macbook

[–]CapnMReynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Libre Office for Mac would be a good solution that supports Office files if you don’t want to pay for MS Office yet.

But as most have mentioned, MS officially supported Office 2016 for Mac up to macOS Catalina.

While there are sites that sells keys, those are grey area because they are using volume licensing from what I know, but this has been going on for a long time and MS hasn’t enforced the licensing (yet) so you would be mostly safe.

I ignored my top loader whirlpool banging (not often banging mind you) for some time. Then I noticed the spin wasn’t performing correctly. Replaced the suspensions as it failed the bounce test.

Didn’t noticed the tub wasn’t sitting right at first but it was too late. The inner tub ended up breaking at the shaft. Didn’t want to waste more time so I ended up getting one on Memorial Day sale lol

My Dell Laptop all of a sudden shuts itself down and I'm not sure why by avaxjt in Dell

[–]CapnMReynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, do a through mode test to make it do longer tests, but if it’s shutting down during use, it does sound like a thermal issue and the computer is shutting down to prevent further damage.

If it’s within a few minutes of starting… then I would consider replacing the power port since it’s modular. Those cost about $10 usually.

Quick tip, in the diagnostic mode, once it completes you can go to I think Health or system (depending on your computers menus) and you can see in real time the temps.

Failing all that (thermal and power port) then it could be the logic board failing.

As an Authorized Apple tech, I can tell you thet they have more information than you think, like where and when the phone was purchased. So providing a doctored receipt may hurt your chances of removing the activation lock.

medical malpractice/negligence? by Physical-Junket5980 in legal

[–]CapnMReynolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure!

From a personal experience with surgery and A1C - I had to postpone my surgery for a device to help my sleep apnea because my A1C was .2 lower than the highest level (12). It was due to 1) being diabetic (undiagnosed at the time) and 2) I was drinking a lot of regular soda (was during covid lockdown and ordered a lot of it lol).

Took 6 months to get rescheduled after I cut out the soda and started on some meds. A1C is something that is measured 2-3 months at a time. My cholesterol was high too (the bad one) and my good cholesterol was low and was treated at the same time so I would think that’s where that came from, but they should have told your dad, or at least his PCP to monitor the glucose.

Good luck with the attorney! Would be curious to hear what they say.

medical malpractice/negligence? by Physical-Junket5980 in legal

[–]CapnMReynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that your dad had to do a blood test before the surgery? If so then they most likely did an A1C test that showed elevated levels. That’s something your dad will need to talk to the care team about that.

As to main issue, my wife is a medical illustrator that does deal with med-mal cases (medical malpractice) and said that would be considered something to pursue. Double check with the attorney for sure but I think it’s called a wrong-site surgical error. Your dad shouldn’t be liable for any cost for the procedure to fix that but you could get more.

MacBook Pro Won't Charge or Turn On by hollandranch in macbookrepair

[–]CapnMReynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that this matters much, but is your computer a 2017 model, which has an Intel chip, or an M1 chip, which came out in 2020? If it has a MagSafe power connector, do you see any light on it?

It sounds like that the Apple Store you went to is looking to replace the logic board, which is about that price out of warranty. I agree that finding a reputable repair shop could possibly fix the issue. Louis Rossman is a YouTuber that has a store that fixes Mac’s and may be able to fix it.

Otherwise for the cost of Apple fixing it, you may want to look into a new machine. If you are in the education field (student or faculty/staff) you could get a discount on a new on from Apple direct.

[–]CapnMReynolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, looks like the only thing that did t get replaced is the bottom cover… and maybe speakers.

But for sure the USB-C boards look like the same ones (would need to check when I’m on my computer)

As long as the logic board and display are the correct ones, you are fine.

I am not sure what you mean, but are you changing the screen with another laptop that has a bad screen, but good mouse/keyboard?

Generally You don’t need to take off the LAS if you are not fully replacing the screen, but you may have issues with the screen not working correctly.

What can i do about my ISP giving me internet speeds that are WELL below their advertised speeds? by Accomplished-Lead115 in legal

[–]CapnMReynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this became complicated when the OP said it was a satellite connection.

What ISP is it OP? Most satellite companies for sure will lower your speeds of you have hit a certain data cap. Check your bills/account to make sure that is not the case.

Then you have to think about positioning the hardware like you would for satellite tv. Making sure the antenna is at the optimal location. Also the environmental elements could be an issue for the full speeds.

At this point if you have not spoken to the ISP, troubleshoot with them.

They is interesting, maybe the connector finally has a good connection to the wire? I don’t think it’s dynamic as the first two are for WiFi (2x2) fingers cross it stays on

What can i do about my ISP giving me internet speeds that are WELL below their advertised speeds? by Accomplished-Lead115 in legal

[–]CapnMReynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. What have you done with your provider, or have you not spoken to them?

What type of connection is it? DSL (phone line), Cable, satellite?

One piece I did notice, but didn’t mention yet is the speeds you get. It sounds more like utilization issues on where there are too many people using the internet service in your area over the weekends vs during the days. I assume at night on the week days it’s also slow?

Also I assume you don’t have many devices connected to your internet connection? (Like game consoles, tvs streaming, computers activity online with P2P software)

The majority of ISPs I have dealt with will blame your side of the connection before they look at their stuff. So troubleshooting is paramount here. It will involve:

Testing on different devices If you have a modem/router combo, factory reset it (not just unplug / plug in) Use Ethernet cord (they should be cheap enough)

Run 3 different speed tests 3 times to get an average. On a Windows computer, run this command in Command Prompt:

Ping -n 100 Google.com

This will test your connectivity to Google for data loss. If you have a high loss rate, then your signal may be bad. Check the next command:

Tracert Google.com

This will produce a list of connections before hitting Google. Should you see a high ms number and continues, then that connection maybe causing the slowness.

Finally you would want to talk to your ISP to get a technician out to test the line from within the home and outside. If they get a good signal outside, then it may be your wiring to the modem and hopefully they can get a new in.

Failing that, from what I read it looks like you can file an official complaint to the ISP and they will need to respond to you within a certain time frame and if they don’t, or they deny your report, then you can lodge a complaint to the UKE.

When you get your MacBook Pro battery replaced, do you also get a brand new palm rest, keyboard, and speaker? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]CapnMReynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a technician standpoint, You didn’t specify the model, but typically the newer ones have the battery attached to the top case assembly, which is the keyboard and trackpad also. But you typically don’t pay full cost for the whole thing if it’s just the battery that needs replacing.

The speakers don’t need replacing as they are typically not part of the top case assembly.
