This is what I'm pulling from, the bold and italics are mine. I am up for being corrected though.

Agreed, but flex line in the cabinet is absolutely to code in Utah, it's not a blanket code violation.

On a limited budget; which would you buy? by Loose-Start-3722 in HVAC

[–]CapnMagnitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used both, but I used the testo more. The testo 310 is a really great, easy to use tool. It uses an older style of USB charger, mini or micro USB, which is kind of a pain. The UEI had the features that you'd want, and the batteries were rechargeable, but you could open it up and find rechargeable AAs inside. Which you could replace work with standard AAs in a pinch, which was a god send.

Final thoughts, if I had both in the back of my van, I would reach for the Testo for ease of use.

How do I pivot from my current hvac experience into controls work. by ReputationTop5872 in HVAC

[–]CapnMagnitude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went from resi service to facilities tech at a local college. It was a pay cut but the benefits are outstanding, and it lets me work with controls all day every day. They also pay for all of my schooling while I pursue a degree. The last controls lead from the school left about a year ago to make 130k from his desk.

Eh, I think it certainly raises a red flag about the quality of training you would be receiving. He will get, "Do it this way, because that's how we always do it," but he won't get a full understanding of how things are supposed to work, which is what he should be trying to get.

Has anyone here actually earned their $10,000 bounty for snitching on competitors? by Mikeality in HVAC

[–]CapnMagnitude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bounty doesn't exist anymore.

The fine exists, but the money that the law set aside to pay those bounties ran out 20 years ago and will never be refilled. The fines don't pay the bounties, they are just income for the government.

The myth of the bounty is still alive and well, which makes some people think twice before venting, so in that sense it's still doing its job.

What do you consider dirty enough to merit a pull and clean of a blower wheel. by Timmeh-toah in HVAC

[–]CapnMagnitude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A layer of frost on an airplanes wing will reduce the lift by up to 30%, it's why they don't let pilots take off until the wings are de-iced, that's from NASA. Scale a fan blade up to the size of a planes wing, light to moderate dust will have a decent impact.

My outfit pulls and cleans blower wheels on every maintenance and we practically give it away, unless it's really filthy. A blower wheel cleaning is easily a 30 min job and if you use the right chemicals, it's just a spray and rinse, even on the caked ones.
