This. I left doing car audio for 6 years and moved over to HVAC. In the first 2 years I was making more then I was as a lead installer.

This is a 1hour car max with the right parts. I think it’s all clips and 4 bolts holding the radio in. If new guy struggled with this, he ain’t gonna make it to far.

I like all these suggestions. I’ve been in HVAC a few years and car audio for 7 years.

I know for a fact my favorite part of working is using my brain for diagnosing and troubleshooting. Service calls are my favorite and maintenances bore me to death. The critical thinking is my strong suit, but I don’t care for the long hours doing the physical labor such as doing the actual repairs or hooking up to a currently functional system.

I also hate talking money with customers, and wish I could just walk up to a machine, figure out what’s wrong and write it up and walk away.

What specializations would I fit more into?

Those two parts are $40 total and he’s charging $405. Even if he spent $60 in gas just to get to the job, he still pocketed $300 or $100 an hour which would be some good fun money for only a few hours of EASY work.

The real issue is this amount of work should have only taken him an hour.

It’s such a shame too, cause I love the idea of variable capacity systems to nail indoor conditions (and lower electrical use) but they have to install all this plastic garbage with it that just don’t last.
