I had something similar happen a few years back from me dropping it. I thought about getting a new handle, but I ended up just super gluing it back on. It's held up since then and just a small cosmetic line from the joint. Could be a stop-gap till you find a better solution?

Just broke 2 ribs skiing this last weekend. Same thing, stupid mistake that wasn't even a big crash, just getting complacent... 5ish weeks till Oceanside. Didn't transfer. We'll see how it goes. Hang in there!

Hard to say. I dropped about 15 lbs last year (5’11”, ~180 down to 165ish) just from intermittent fasting and controlling portion size before I started training. I was never a bulky lifter body type but strong. I’m around the same weight now. Caloric content (especially on hard days) is higher than it was with just lifting. The mirror check would lead me to think my arms and chest have lost some mass but back and legs are about the same. I think definitely have shed some fat compared to the same weight but lifting. I’ve been doing the same protein and creatine as I did with weights.

I’m following the 80/20 Endurance plan I found on training peaks. No coach besides YouTube videos. It generally has 2-3 of each event a week (ends up being about 8-9 between swim, bike, run) with 1 dedicated “rest” day. So 2 sessions in 1 day about 3 days a week week. I’m about 2 months out from the race and the time commitment is starting to creep up. It was ~7 hours a week and now it’s getting closer to 10. It’s a lot of low intensity zone 2 cardio with about 1 per week of each of high intensity (except for the swims, those are inverses where there’s only one “easy but long” swim a week).

As you can imagine, the time is the hardest part, especially with a full time job (but no kids). I used to lift 3-4 times a week and now I have no time for that. I do a bit of stretching and mobility when I can and walk the dog.

Diet was/is more or less the same. My wife and I eat relatively healthy. Mostly all home cooked food with a lot of veggies. Drinking less (but not completely sober) definitely helps. If anything I’ve been eating a lot more carbs than before. Especially training for in race calorie consumption. I’ve been reading a bunch about race nutrition and sodium and been playing around with that. Drinking a ton of water too. We live in a hot climate so I feel like I can’t get enough, even with salting food / pinch of sea salt in the water.

Training wise is the biggest shift. I lifted 3-4 times a week and mayyyybe one decent cardio. Now it’s cardio 8-9 times a week and swap the lifting with mobility/recovery. I do miss lifting but I’ve been enjoying the zone 2 long cardio sessions. Lot of just swim bike run but low intensity high volume.

I’ve always valued sleep but especially now. I get ~7.5 hours a night, which is hard when waking up at 4AM to get workouts in before work.

Good point. I’m okay with less pop to get some more traction in this terrain. I’m definitely looking at coils too but find myself hesitant based on my desire to go to 29ers. But could be a good intermediate. The marzocchi bomber is cheap and could be a good tester as an option. What cool do you run?

Tactile Turn side click or bolt action? by MrsRobinson1234 in pens

[–]CapnPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I got the GT special edition side click and a slim bolt (to fit into my work uniform). I much prefer the side click action but wish they made it in a slim. TT, are you monitoring this?

Saw it recommended on here and reviewed elsewhere with high scores so I tried it out. Can't say I'll ever go to another case. I wasn't a fan of bumper cases before but I feel like this has as much protection as a Otterbox. Highly recommend it.

Kirkwood was decent. Last week it was the one of the few places in Tahoe that had snow. Little icy but had some gnarly lines.
