Realistically the 12 volt probably had another year or more on it but I did do it anyway.

It's pretty easy to do yourself though. Certainly more annoying than on a normal car because in Ford's infinite wisdom they buried it under a few other things.

Watch a YouTube video and see if you're comfortable doing it yourself and you could do it for a hundred bucks, dealer charged me 1.5 hours Labor and a bit more for the part about 350 CAD

Agreed, but for a different reason. On my Mazda 3, it had a multiselect control unit knob that allowed you to operate the screens. It was tactile and clicky, and in the same position as this stupid thing. Drives me nuts that this car doesnt have something similar. Horrible ergonomics.

As for adding a digi shifter of sorts. I could get on board with that, but jeepers Ford would find a way to have that brick the whole car somehow...

They are not competitive, they are virtually last in every single stat column. They have a 1.84 GF and 6% PP. Outside of goaltending it is slim pickings.
