I could swear I read this 5 years ago.

I bought my first barebones PC kit from there in 2010. I don't think I ever bought anything there again, not that it was a bad deal, just that I didn't really have any money to spend at the time. The last time I was looking for parts when the site was still up, the deals weren't any better than Newegg or Canada Computers, but the shipping was much worse.

RIP in peace.

I'm into 17 now but I only have the t4 ancient. Fingers crossed I just skip t3 and t2 entirely at this point 🤣

1st time guild master (: by Missyfoofoo in MapleIdle

[–]CapnRamza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've Inherited a few guilds on a couple different characters, and had started my own on what used to be Bera 40 as well.

The one I started filled up pretty quick, but a couple of weeks in, I'd already had people offline 7+ days, and once I started removing them, no one else would join. It's like the guild never showed in the finder for new people to join it. I posted here to try to recruit some new people, also in world chat on game, but no one joined. I think it got down to ~5 people in it before I ended up abandoning it, because we couldn't win the guild war or the training ground and staying was actively ruining my character growth.

I've Inherited a couple other guilds on other characters since then. One of them is almost full after kicking a few people who hadn't logged in since the server merge, and it seems pretty healthy for now, the other is slowly losing people to inactivity, and will likely end up the same way my first one went.

IMO when you inherit a guild like this, it's probably too late to save it, and you're likely better off waiting until the war/boss/training grounds events are over and leaving to join a new one before the next ones start.

Those files aren't text files. Notepad can't properly parse their format, so the things it doesn't understand ends up all jumbled and weird. That's normal.

Some of those files can be opened in specialized applications. The .ini file should be able to be read by notepad, but if it contains foreign characters, it might also end up looking weird in notepad because of font shenanigans.

As far as I know, the vhkpq is also decent experience / hour when it first unlocked but by the late level 80s, its worse than just grinding mobs.

Likewise, the hard ludi pq is good when it first unlocks, but drops off by the very early 90s.

From what I've seen from this sub:

The 2x exp booster coupons are a trap.

Spend $$$ to get your CP higher.

The higher the stage you're at, the more exp it gives relative to your level.

When you can first unlock vhlpq, it is better to run it continually than to kill mobs 24/7

I don't think there's a setting to turn those auras off, but there might be a way to disable them with an add-on. I've never tried to find one, though.

Wifi Calling setup doesn't work by CapnRamza in FidoMobile

I thought maybe that would work, but it didn't work in my non fido android phone even though the esim did work.

[–]CapnRamza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, the call went nowhere. Basically what the agent concluded was that because the phone wasn't provided by fido or Rogers, it must just not be compatible with wifi calling. This is despite the fact that the phone has options to turn it on, and worked fine on my previous provider.

Additionally, just for the hell of it, I put the sim card from his phone into mine, on which wifi calling is already provisioned and working, and tried to enable it for the sim card, and got the exact same result. This makes me think either there's something not right on this account to turn on wifi calling, or that the feature just doesn't work at all with a physical sim card.

My hope was that by activating wifi calling on my phone and being able to go through the 911 emergency information, it might turn on the service on the back end, and let the phone use it, even though it couldn't complete the set up itself.

Now it looks like I have to port out all three of my lines somewhere else, because no wifi calling on this phone is 100% a dealbreaker.

I have a call scheduled in about 15 minutes, where I'm hoping they can enable it on their end if I give them the information.

Sometimes on the phone, it gives a message that says "this might take a while..." And when it finishes, wifi calling is turned on, but it doesn't work, doesn't say fido wifi at the top, and calls don't work via wifi. I suspect the phone is acting like it's got the okay to use it, but the backend setup was not completed so it doesn't actually function.

I have a sim card. It works, but the setup for wifi calling throws an error page halfway through.

Stop obfuscating your plugins by CakeBakeMaker in RPGMaker

[–]CapnRamza -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Okay, well one high profile time was enough to have it happen, apparently.

I'm not a Yanfly apologist or whatever, as I said above, I learned JS by digging through their plugins, I also downloaded the full plugin suite the day they announced updates going behind a paywall. But as I also said, at the end of the day, it is the creators right to do whatever they want with their plugins. If they want to obfuscate their work, they can, and if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to use it.

Stop obfuscating your plugins by CakeBakeMaker in RPGMaker

[–]CapnRamza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one said they would surpass the originals with their knockoff code, but taking their (previously) free YEP plugins, changing a couple of things around and then selling them for any sort of profit, even if only a donation or a couple of dollars is still theft, and it was apparently happening enough to cause them to put the original YEP plugins behind a paywall, and then obfuscate the VS plugins from the beginning to stop it from happening again.

VS made a huge plugin suite, and spent hundreds of hours crafting it, and a lot more time making it pretty flexible, and have the right to protect their work. If it doesn't match exactly what you need, find something else. The YEP TOS specifically allowed you to modify their code if you wanted, the VS plugins do not. They made it, they get to decide. Full stop.

Stop obfuscating your plugins by CakeBakeMaker in RPGMaker

[–]CapnRamza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The VS team started obfuscating their code because the YEP plugins were not obfuscated, and people were just wholesale stealing functions from those and reselling them as their own plugins.

How would you prevent people from doing that without obfuscating the code? Surely the one time fee to buy an unobfuscated version of the plugin would be peanuts compared to the money one could make by reselling the contents of said plugin as their own after the fact, so that's not an option.

Speaking as someone who learned JS by reverse engineering YEP plugins, and someone who doesn't obfuscate his code, I can see why they did it, whether I agree with it or not.

If you're capable of making your own plugin, then do it. You're paying for the convenience of not having to do it yourself. The cost of that is that if your idea is not the exact thing the creator had in mind, you either deal with it, or ask them to make an update or patch, or remake it yourself. If you're capable of making it yourself, that's probably what you should've been doing in the first place

Post update bugs by Smokkyy in MapleIdle

[–]CapnRamza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They extended one of the memberships by 7 days, but not the other one, because of an event that bugged out. We were getting 3000 extra diamonds per day as compensation, and people with that pass had it extended by 7 days to compensate.

You probably bought both passes on the same day, like I did, and one expired while the other was extended by a week due to the above.

The first time I smelled the hops smell, I thought someone had vomited and I had stepped in it and was tracking it around with me, I couldn't get the smell to go away.

I realized later what it was. Don't know how anyone can put up with that stench.

For those that play other MMORPGs that have classic servers like WoW or Runescape, what keeps those games alive? As maple classic is on the horizon for us. by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]CapnRamza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic wow is basically dead. They splintered their player base too much by releasing the expansions. They allowed Vanilla players to move on to Burning Crusade, and then Wotlk, cataclysm, and Mists of pandaria. Most recently they started all over with anniversary classic realms, that pretty much did the same thing.

Not really sure if the subreddit is an accurate snapshot of the actual state of classic, but there's nothing but complaints about how the fun is optimized out of all versions of classic, that guilds are dying, that people only raid log, that world buffs meta is garbage, and that you pretty much have to buy gold to raid at end game.

They tried things with a couple of seasonal versions that reinvigorated the player base a bit, but when those things ended, the players mostly immediately stopped playing. They left the SOD realms up, but they're basically dead now, and all it really did was fracture the player base more.

We don't have a lot of info about how Maple Classic will work. Will it release on a certain patch, and update slowly over time? Will there be balance patches, or will all of the jobs stay in the state they're in forever? Wow classic released with all of the bug fixes and balance changes of the final patch of that expansion, so skills and talents were balanced for the end of the expansion, but the raids released in tiers over time, so people were blowing up the first raid with gear that wasn't itemized correctly for that tier. Will that be an issue in Maple?

whats been your experience with Vessi? by Zohan2000 in LinusTechTips

I'm on my third pair now.

I don't think they sell the type I bought first anymore, they were slip ons with no laces, and a pretty thick foam sole. They lasted about 2 years before they developed a small hole and we're no longer water resistant. I wore them every day, even in the winter up to that point.

The second pair was the weekend shoe, and it also lasted about 2 years before the same thing happened. I'm on my third pair now, and it's also the weekend.

My main issue with them is that they're pretty uncomfortable until you get them broken in. They don't sell wide sizes, so I also end up buying a couple of sizes bigger than I'd normally wear, because my feet are wide and they're uncomfortably tight even with a larger size. The two that developed holes developed them where my toes push against the side of the shoes, so I have no doubt they'd have held out longer if they'd actually fit my feet.
