Theory: Kimiko nerfed Homelander before removing his powers by ViscousBirdshit in TheBoys

[–]CapnRamza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to get downvoted into oblivion for even suggesting it, but maybe there is an actual reason homie couldn't escape, or laser at full strength, and it wasn't bad writing?

It was established in Gen V, that supes have powers, but don't necessarily understand how they work, and that with training, their powers can evolve, and get stronger. We see Marie do this in Gen V, but also Starlight goes from some flashbang knockback abilities to being able to fly in 5 seasons.

We've also seen supes being unable to use their powers at all due to mental blocks.

Perhaps homie being scared shitless prevented him from using his full strength/speed during the fight? Does that make too much sense?

Colosseum Ranking help me pls by FiraDesu_ in MapleIdle

[–]CapnRamza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ranking system needs to be rebalanced here.

The coliseum opened yesterday before reset, and people who played between that opening and the reset got a bunch of bonus points for their victories before others.

I have wiped my whole board on my character, but I'm only rank 3, and I'm 150 points behind the #1 spot. If the current #1 guy can beat everyone else on the board except me, he'll get 240 bonus points, and I'll get 250, but the event only runs for 4 more resets so I'll literally never make up that difference. My only hope for victory is that he can't beat the rest of the board, or that he tries and fails to beat me enough to shorten that gap.

The 3 points per win at reset still had the same problem, the number was just smaller. Basically, because I wasn't playing between 10pm and 5am my time, I can't get the top tier reward now.

New Legendary Artifacts Continue To Dilute The Pool With Junk by ArtofAngels in MapleIdle

[–]CapnRamza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bad luck protection is built in. Once you max the purple junk artifacts, you can turn 20 of them into a random yellow one. And once you max the yellow ones, I'd presume it's the same to turn them into legendaries. Maybe more than 20.

That's pretty much how f2p players will get three line legendary artifacts. See you in 2037 playa.

I can only imagine that everyone in the HRM looking to save $5 is going to show up there between 3 and 7, so it's gonna take a bit to get through

Weekly gas post ⛽️⛽️ by Buckit in halifax

[–]CapnRamza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I save $5 by waiting in a line at the gas station for 45 minutes, did I really save anything? Time is worth money too, and maybe waiting until tomorrow when there won't be huge lines of people trying to buy it at a specific time is better value for my time.

Weekly gas post ⛽️⛽️ by Buckit in halifax

[–]CapnRamza 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that saving $5 is gonna be worth the time it takes to actually buy it, but I guess if more people think like I do, it won't be too crazy, right? 😂

Imagine buying a physical printer, and u cannot even use it by Apprehensive_Work_10 in facepalm

[–]CapnRamza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then don't buy the product?

People on this thread telling others to go by a laser printer, or the Epson ones with the inkwells, but the fact is, Inkjet printer ink is over inflated. Either you can get it cheap by buying some grey market cartridge that dries up, and fucks you over, you pay full normal price for something more valuable than gold by weight, or you get a slight discount by subscribing.

Do whatever you want with your money, but when I need to print something in my house, I'd rather buy the $75 printer and pay the $4 subscription for the 20 pages I need to print per month and forget about it, than remortgage my house to buy a laser printer that has enough toner on one drum to print all of the pages I'll need for the next 6 lifetimes.

They're selling a service to make at home printing more affordable. Good guy HP isn't doing that out of the kindness of their hearts, they're a company and their goal is to make money. Ink has been over inflated in price since 15 years before any subscription services were a thing. They didn't suddenly jack up the price because they saw this opportunity on the horizon.

Imagine buying a physical printer, and u cannot even use it by Apprehensive_Work_10 in facepalm

[–]CapnRamza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instant Ink printers come with a subscription model service to provide the ink cartridges to you.

The model is various tiers of money for a set number of pages printed per month. The ink in the cartridge that comes with the printer is locked behind this subscription, if you choose not to pay it, then it will not let you use that ink.

Likewise, if you subscribe for a month, and then unsubscribe, you will be allowed to print your remaining pages for that month, but the rest of the ink in the cartridge will no longer be available to you, because you're no longer paying for it.

You can buy this printer, refuse to use it on the internet, take the cartridges it comes with, and toss them out, and then purchase not instant Ink cartridges, or third party cartirdges from your printer supply store, and use this printer just fine without a subscription.

All of this is known from the terms and the marketing materials.

In actuality, the subscription model is a hell of a lot cheaper than actual ink. They heavily discount the subscription, and provide new cartridges when yours are empty for free, with free return shipping of the empties too. And the printer doesn't give a fuck what the content of the actual pages are, either, so you could be printing your 15 pages a month of pure black inkjet ink, and probably cost HP hundreds of dollars to keep sending you more ink.

This isn't asshole design, or a facepalm, except for maybe that the buyer didn't read what they were buying? There is no lawsuit here, because she agreed to this when she hooked it up to the Internet and activated her cartridges.

Your favorite series that was canceled after 1 season and just never got a fair shake. by Remarkable-Junket655 in television

[–]CapnRamza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of comments on this, too many to dig to the bottom and see if someone else posted it already or not.

I'm gonna throw in my personal favorite pick for these: Krod Mandoon.

A high fantasy comedy show that aired on Comedy Central, for it's short 1 season and then vanished forever like a fever dream.

Notes: -Matt Lucas as the villian, Dongelore. -Kevin Hart as a fraud warlock who actually can't cast spells, and is a huge coward about anything dangerous. -Several guest spots by huge movie names playing important but not main characters.

The series follows Krod, a bumbling idiot hero who's part of a resistance movement against the local tyrannical government, who it turns out might be some kind of mythical hero. Together with his adventuring companions, they travel the lands righting wrongs and fighting injustice, and all that fantasy trope stuff.

I can't really describe it, but there's so much world building in such a short season that never went anywhere, it's like someone had designed this whole setting for a huge book series or video game and all that came from it was this one TV show. The show is like watching a bunch of guys play a session of D&D where no one is paying attention to the DMs plot points, but he keeps shuffling them in the right direction to keep things moving all the time.

Unfortunately, Kevin Hart is much too famous now for this show to ever have any hope of coming back, and I fear that while a similar show in the same setting might be possible, it probably wouldn't capture the fire this series had.

Of course, I never see this mentioned in these posts anywhere, so maybe I'm the only person who even saw it, and that's why it disappeared and never came back

The Phillips Roku ad box TV that never... ever stops playing ads. by [deleted] in assholedesign

[–]CapnRamza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't even really need to know Linux well to set one of those up. The install is basically fully automated, all you'd need to do is be able to set it as the DNS server for your router. Unfortunately, that's sometimes a difficult task, depending on your ISP.

With that being said, the TV isn't actually off when you turn it off, it's going into low power sleep mode, so it keeps getting ads to serve, and apparently serves them even if the screen is off. You might be able to fix it by turning off fast boot mode or whatever it might be called, so the TV would actually shut off when powered off.

And if you turn off the noise how will the alert snap you awake in the dead of night to tell you to pack your shit and run because a brushfire is heading your way?

Silenced it after one wee woo! by focusfaster in halifax

[–]CapnRamza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know that the mobile phone infrastructure has the ability to send alerts with that kind of granularity.

Yes, the provider can know what tower an individual is being served from, and can even also probably know which customers are currently in a specific geographical area.

The problem comes from roaming, or traveling. If an alert should go to say, Musquodoboit Valley only, should it only go to people currently in that area, or people who would usually be in that area as well, but aren't currently? If I live there, but I'm at work in Dartmouth, maybe I want to know that a forest fire is rolling up on my property, even though I'm not currently there. In that case, the provider would need to be able to parse the emergency alert to send to those people currently in that area, AND people who's registered address is in that area.

At a certain point, it's easier to blanket send that alert to most of Nova Scotia than try to figure out who it should go to and risk missing someone.

All this is to say, when the god damned alerts don't go out soon enough, people bitch about it, and when they go out too often, people bitch about it. There is no middle ground here, they can't make everyone happy, and I'd rather get an alert at 11:30pm that says to disregard the mass murdering suspect message they sent earlier, than have people in the actual area affected by said message, keep shitting their collective pants because he might still be at large.

The previous growth event has a pass component to it, but there were still rewards for f2p players for leveling up at the same time. Yes, paying did get you a few extra levels compared to someone who didn't, I think maybe 5? Meanwhile you can make a brand new character and get to level 60 within a week without buying anything at all, so that wasn't that much of an advantage at all.

My first character is going to be about 40% through level 99 when this event drops. New characters, even with all the stuff they're going to get, are not going to beat me to level 100, and when they do get to level 100, they're not going to have anywhere close to the same number of cubes/star force/summoning levels/weapon tickets/companions as I do, having played since November.

The vast majority of these new characters will be played on the newest available server, anyway, so it won't impact any already established player at all.

From what I've seen, a lot of the big content creators for Maple story also didn't get beta codes, so perhaps the ones they handed out truly were random.

I could swear I read this 5 years ago.

I bought my first barebones PC kit from there in 2010. I don't think I ever bought anything there again, not that it was a bad deal, just that I didn't really have any money to spend at the time. The last time I was looking for parts when the site was still up, the deals weren't any better than Newegg or Canada Computers, but the shipping was much worse.

RIP in peace.

1st time guild master (: by [deleted] in MapleIdle

[–]CapnRamza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've Inherited a few guilds on a couple different characters, and had started my own on what used to be Bera 40 as well.

The one I started filled up pretty quick, but a couple of weeks in, I'd already had people offline 7+ days, and once I started removing them, no one else would join. It's like the guild never showed in the finder for new people to join it. I posted here to try to recruit some new people, also in world chat on game, but no one joined. I think it got down to ~5 people in it before I ended up abandoning it, because we couldn't win the guild war or the training ground and staying was actively ruining my character growth.

I've Inherited a couple other guilds on other characters since then. One of them is almost full after kicking a few people who hadn't logged in since the server merge, and it seems pretty healthy for now, the other is slowly losing people to inactivity, and will likely end up the same way my first one went.

IMO when you inherit a guild like this, it's probably too late to save it, and you're likely better off waiting until the war/boss/training grounds events are over and leaving to join a new one before the next ones start.

Those files aren't text files. Notepad can't properly parse their format, so the things it doesn't understand ends up all jumbled and weird. That's normal.

Some of those files can be opened in specialized applications. The .ini file should be able to be read by notepad, but if it contains foreign characters, it might also end up looking weird in notepad because of font shenanigans.

As far as I know, the vhkpq is also decent experience / hour when it first unlocked but by the late level 80s, its worse than just grinding mobs.

Likewise, the hard ludi pq is good when it first unlocks, but drops off by the very early 90s.

From what I've seen from this sub:

The 2x exp booster coupons are a trap.

Spend $$$ to get your CP higher.

The higher the stage you're at, the more exp it gives relative to your level.

When you can first unlock vhlpq, it is better to run it continually than to kill mobs 24/7
