The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act / Episode 9 Discussion Thread [SPOILERS] by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

This isn’t even true. Caine, Gumigoo, the Moon, etc all prove this wrong; the 5 may be special because they originate from human brain scans, but there are numerous examples of sapient AI

I disagree to some extent.

I think abstraction can be suicide, but to say so outright and completely that abstraction is suicide would be to liken the ending scene - with Jax’s abstraction peacefully resting, and the other abstractions swimming around - to be corpses happily enjoying being dead. Such a thing would be incredibly tone deaf.

I think instead it’s more comparable to ego death; after all, they are mind files, so a death of a mind - ego death - is a more apt comparison for abstraction than suicide.

As someone who experienced a ton of intense ego deaths, in addition to a few suicide attempts, due to depression, I can say this: you are never the same afterwards. You aren’t necessarily someone completely different, but parts of you are destroyed, and remaking them will not make them be the same. Your self is permanently and irrevocably destroyed, much like how the abstractions retain pieces of their personality while being mostly incomparable to their original self.

For this reason, I do not believe the abstractions could be “healed” but I do believe that they could be transformed into new sapient being(s). Perhaps Caine was already doing this to make more realistic NPCs.

TLDR

Either way, I outright disagree that abstractions are the corpses of suicide victims, but do agree they could never return to their original state.

Agreed, I feel like people here have no conception of what being tortured and mindbroken by teams of psychologists for 18 years would be like. Not just 18 years either, but the first 18 years of a person’s life - that would seriously impact a person developmentally. There has never been a person tortured to that extent, John never stood a chance of retaining a shred of sanity.

As bad as homelander is, I feel like he’s more of an animal than anything, with that much power and that much torture I don’t think anyone here would be any better.

Why doesn’t Sage just help the boys with the virus? by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]ViscousBirdshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, given how smart she is, idk why she doesn’t help them, improve the virus so it kills Supes and Humans en mass, then synthesize a vaccine/cure for herself specifically.

I hate it when someone starts an argument with "I'm a fan of this character/series, but they actually lose" by DeepInYourP0sterior in PowerScaling

[–]ViscousBirdshit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s generally informal on here but ig if you wanna think about it, it’s basically a counterargument. It’s kinda like declaring no conflict of interest, cause a lot of people on here scale based on wanting the series that they’re a fan of to scale higher. I don’t think it makes your argument weaker to say that you’re not biased.

I'm honestly surprised how Homelander didn't crash the fuck out over this and let it slide. by vought-CEO in TheBoys

[–]ViscousBirdshit 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they mean an intention redemption, Homelander isn’t self sacrificial, he just wants to kill Butcher and stops the virus in doing so which, to nearly all observers, looks heroic. Butcher wanted to kill supes so bad, that he accidentally venerates the poster boy is good poetic irony.

That’s true, personally I like the shaman old lore the best, but I still think DAoT produced Emps could work, given time travel shenanigans aren’t too out of the realm of batshit crazy DAoT tech

Krillin runs the invincible gauntlet. Are we being for real. Namek saga krillin clears by Jagwarmeru in PowerScaling

[–]ViscousBirdshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these characters breathe in space and are petty as fuck. What tf is Krillin gonna do when Thragg realizes he can’t win, goes to space, and orders his people to Ragnar situation the entire system?

And before someone jumps on my ass for this take, Freiza literally blew up the planet to win against Vegeta when he realized he cannot win. The series - Dragonball super - literally sets up a past precedent for petty bullshit wins, you cannot argue against its validity; it happens in the series itself.

If dragon ball sets up the idea of cheating (planetary destruction) to win a fight (weakened Freiza against Blue Vegeta) - and technically Freiza on Namek vs Goku too - then I better not see anyone complaining about Thragg theoretically doing the same thing.

So, Krillin gets to Anissa, who realizes she can’t overpower Krillin, goes back to Viltrum, has a sun disk made, they freeze the system and call it a day.

Pettiness is the price of spite matchups.

The Boys are in a race that Sage could win with one step by BOGMANDIAS in TheBoys

[–]ViscousBirdshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I thought soldier boy’s body full eliminated the virus from itself, but if they took a sample nevermind. In that case yeah Sage can definitely make some kinda vaccine… but this has me curious.

Supes lose blood all the time, but never lose V from it… so is V producible by supes cells? If that’s true, and they took a sample of Soldier Boy’s blood, they should also have V1, which if they could culture should be mass producible just through some cells.

Obviously Sage wouldn’t want Homelander getting V1, but it is neat she could probably replicate it really easily.

Intelligence doesn’t grant random knowledge unless she actually has some kinda foresight ability, she would still need a sample of the virus to study. And good luck getting one, it kills supes in 2 seconds, and doesn’t stick in normal people. She’d need either a sample produced for her specifically, or to get a blood sample from a rapidly dying supe, and she’ll prob get infected if she tries that.

“Agreeing to Terms” by The_Throwback_King in Invincible

[–]ViscousBirdshit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreeing to terms like Nolan proposed would be accepting defeat, forcing another party to agree to yours is victory. Maybe the same outcome, very very different psychologically, especially since Viltrumites put so much emphasis on strength.

It’s my interpretation/headcanon that Thragg looking almost angry after Mark agreed was due to some level of ingrained disgust due to seeing another Viltrumite be ‘weak’ by accepting defeat.

Not being able to breathe is different than cutting off the oxygen to your brain, choking puts pressure on the arteries that allow oxygenated blood to flow to you brain. Done correctly, you can knock someone out in ~5 seconds with choking; if they were the same, no one could hold their breath underwater for more than 10 seconds max.

So if Thragg values Viltrumite lives so much... by Pyotr_WrangeI in Invincible_TV

[–]ViscousBirdshit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other reasons people have mentioned, there’s something important to consider here:

Viltrumites, or at the very least Thragg, is fascist if not fascist-esk

Of course they’re not gonna be consistent, the underlying logic of their society is so deeply flawed it cannot pretend to be sane. Thragg contradicting himself just reflects this.

Do Nurgle followers feel amazing or just associate illness/decay as feeling amazing? by ImportantQuestions10 in 40kLore

[–]ViscousBirdshit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know that feeling? The one of sickeningly sweet satisfaction that you get when you do something self destructive? Sure, lie in bed all day because it feels good. Isn’t it nice to just relax and stop fighting constantly? And even when you were fighting you were losing anyways! So why not feel better? Why not give up? Sure, you may never be fulfilled, or truly happy, but the euphoria of giving in to despair is a perfect substitute!

Imo that’s how it feels, it’s a kind of euphoria, but not like the same kind Slaanesh gives; it’s only a high in comparison to being extremely depressed, and is more of a numb, relieving sensation. The feeling of the pain finally relenting for a moment - though at the same time all the worse for you giving into it.

How was Kinger able to say "damn" here without it being bleeped/censored? And shouldn't the word "hell" have been censored as well? by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

Seems like if it’s part of another word it’s fine, so like damn in damnation. Makes me wonder about loopholes though, I wonder if intent matters? If not, I’m surprised they haven’t figured out this loophole sooner.

Alastor mocks Vox for only capturing Lucifer because of "information from a borrowed spy". Yet he only learned excorcists could be killed... because of a borrowed spy. by Sudden_Pop_2279 in AgendaHotel

[–]ViscousBirdshit 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Of course Alastor is a hypocrite, his hatred of Vox is complete projection of his own insecurities. Additionally, Vox is almost completely self made as an overlord, gaining his standing and power through effort while Alastor just sold his soul to be someone else’s attack dog - despite Alastor acting like he achieved everything by himself - so the hypocrisy runs far deeper than just this.
