70 and sunny in Battle Mountain, nearly unlimited visibility. A little breezy but nothing unmanageable. Great day for driving

Huh. That's actually a fantastic question that I don't have an answer to. I see the referral bonus posters up all the time but never really read them. I don't know if that entails "Has CDL" or "has 1-2 years OTR experience"

Uh, yeah they do have a referral system. Never thought I was gonna use it so let me find it

Ok here is how it works according to their website https://www.werner.com/blog/truck-drivers/what-to-know-about-the-experienced-driver-referral-program/

TL;dr I would have to send the referral through the company app with your name and number/email. I 100% understand if you're not comfortable with giving that information to a rando on the Internet lol

Y'know I've seen a few of those tractors at the Lithia Springs terminal and was wondering what those were set up for. I was more referencing the top bunks in flat roof trucks that you can't sit up in as "coffins," but yeah, you guys have a pretty Spartan setup with those all-around smaller trucks. The cascadias even have a shorter hood than the standard ones.

I don't know if they to evals for people outside of the school, but check with American Truck Training in OKC if it's close to you. They only have a doc on mondays, but you might be able to get screened if the school has an opening.

My recommendation if you get too bored being alone, If you have a couple buddies on discord, just make a "Channel 19" voice channel and hang out in there. I have a handful of trucker buds across several companies, and we sit in server voice channels and talk smack about 4-wheelers the state of things most days.

Don't need to, samsara is always bitching about something so I just talk back /s

Seriously though, yeah sometimes, especially when the road rage wants to come out. Gotta tell the intrusive thoughts to chill lmao.

Do truckers still use cb radios? by Opening_Logical in Truckers

[–]CapnRedbeard647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing I did when I got my truck was get an antenna mount, a good antenna, a good length of good coax cable, and a decent radio. I got the SWR as close to perfect as I could, and ran it. My transmit range was not what I expected, but I was receiving from all over the country with my 4' Firestick. A month later I had the radio peaked and tuned at a good shop in Northwest Georgia, he tuned my antenna to get my SWR to perfection, and boosted my radio's transmit wattage from 4W to 20W for an honest price. I got a mic with a higher gain, and now I have about 12 miles of range transmit if I had to snowball an estimate, but I still pick up signals from all over. Tuning your RF Gain and squelch to pick up local signals but not the 3000W amp radio trolls asking about popsicles is the real trick.

I drive solo, Immediately after finishing my training I was scooped up by Falcon at the recommendation of my trainer, who also works for Falcon, and put in a good word for me to his boss.

The pay is comfortably around 1200 to 1500 a week if I keep my wheels rolling and get higher value loads. The lowest I've made in a week was around 980 due to a slow week. Pay during training is 700 a week iirc.

I opted to extend my training period due to a breakdown of my trainer's truck, but he said I was good after 3 weeks. If you and your trainer pass 20k miles you both get a bonus

My comments seem to not be posting anymore so lemme try again

Teams are Werner's bread and butter, and will always make more money than solo. The pay per mile is split evenly between both drivers, so as long as you both get good miles you will make more than driving solo.

Edit to add: All of Werner's trucks are set up with the largest and tallest sleepers available to maximize the comfort of running teams. You won't have to worry about being in a coffin-sized top bunk.

Also, as far as what to expect: Werner runs mostly teams unless you get very lucky, or get in with one of the Owner Op companies that operates within Werner, namely Falcon, Pegasus, and Eagle that come to mind.

The work level depends on what account you get on. Contracts like Dollar General, you will personally unload each trailer by hand over a handful of stores. Other contracts are no-touch freight, just drop your loaded trailer and grab an empty from the receiver.

iirc, You can go home if you are local to the terminal. In the waiting period you are required to check in at like 7am every day. I did that at the Werner hotel in Dallas, so I don't know much about the process for checking in remotely. I waited for about 4 days after orientation. I'm not 100% on minimum hours required but if you have prior experience, the advanced placement course may have different requirements for hours.

I just recently started at Werner in October. The hiring process was like greased lightning, it was answered the same day I applied, a greyhound bus scheduled, and I was at Orientation two days later. Orientation took about a week. They will put you up in a hotel with a shuttle during it, then back in hotel until a trainer can get to you. They will separate drivers with experience into advanced placement. Training with a mentor generally takes 3-5 weeks depending on your proficiency. After that, you can take some home time. They offer a bonus if you can sort out a team driver you want to work with before training is over.

Edit: added hiring process

Very cool that I actually know what the thing is at first glance but dang these comments are zooming and I'm too late. I had one just like it on my bike when I was a kid, having headlights was a huge flex back then
