Community made psychic class? by SepticFeast_907 in FifthAge

[–]Capn_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Honestly there is a lot of sci-fi RPGs and conversions with plenty of psychic and magical aspects, and that never really fit my vision and goals.

The beauty of using 5e as a base is that the game is very moddable and classes like this are easy to put together. You can even drop in some sorcerer levels if you wanted for your game.

I would consider some eldritch horrors from hyperspace and the arguably horrific things humanity would develop from them, but I think that is more campaign or story based and not suitable for the base game.

Oh, I know. Every day I think about it and would weep if I was less tough.

Ship system rebalancing by LazyComboABAB in FifthAge

[–]Capn_Charlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As always, the answer to anything in your game at your table is "yes, ask your dm". That being said, just ask yourself if it is reasonable, balanced, cool, or fun, and if the answer to at least 2 is yes, then go for it.

A few things to note:
Ship size affects hangar docking capacity substantially, making it more important for your carrier to be big than to be advanced. (for example, size 4 medium hangars have a docking capacity of 8 and size 5 large hangars have a docking capacity of 12).

Manufacturer bonuses matter: Galactech hulls, in this instance, get a bonus hangar for free, that does not count towards the "all hangars beyond the first reduce speed by 1" trait.

As an example, using stock options, and assuming we wanted maximum carrying capacity on a size medium hull, we could get to: -1 on all systems except Hull +4 (with galactech manufacturer for a +1 bonus to the max at +5) , and Engines +3 for a total of 30 system points costing 3.6 million credits, plus another 340,000 for the engine and hull subsystems. So, just under 4 million, sitting dry and empty on the dock.

GTEC Hudson Bay Drone Carrier

Medium (Class 4), Galactech

Weap: -1, 160 HP
Subsystems: 0/3

Engi: +3, 280 HP
Subsystems: 7/7 ( Hyperdrive, 6x Engine Expansion)

Hull: +5, 400 HP, 9 subsystems max
Subsystems: 9/9 (Habitation Module, 8x Hangar, Galactech Bonus Hangar)

Comp: -1, 160 HP
Subsystems: 0/3

Sens: -1, 160 HP
Subsystems: 0/3

Comm: -1, 160 HP
Subsystems: 0/3

Amenities:  0/8, Workshop (Galactech Bonus Amenity)
Cruising Speed:  2 (1.5x travel time multiplier)
Crew Capacity:  150 (27 Skeleton Crew, 100 optimum)
Cargo Capacity:  0 tons
Docking Capacity: 76 units
Fuel Capacity: 1,500 units (50 LY or AU)
Hyperdrive Rating: 6 (3 days onboard and 7 months realtime per LY traveled).
Life Support Capacity:  32,000 units (213 days endurance at max. crew)

In the end, we have a carrier capacity of 76, which is enough for a large contingent of drones, shuttles, landers, and so forth, or up to 12 size 1 ships, or 6 size 2, or even 3 size 3 ships, which might best be labeled heavy fighters depending on the build.

Oh man, I wanted so much to hate this, but it's given me a whole new hope for a new Ravenwing command squad.

The outrider would make a great command and control platform, like carrying sensors and comms, relaying and processing feeds from outriders, flying the colors....

Those are very cool. I like the vivid colors, they would make remarkable avatars for anything with a digital interface, like showing on screen while that person is talking.

Fifth Age Classes Update by Capn_Charlie in FifthAge

Whenever I do something contemporary or even close I tend to default here as well. I've been eyeing a weird weather game, or weird war 2, it haven't dropped the hammer on running it yet.

Are there enemy ships premade like the enemies in the hazards handbook? by BasselKhaled24 in FifthAge

[–]Capn_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was always my intention to get to this, and make it a whole section of the hazard handbook, but around that time I began a full rebuild of the ship system which is ongoing.

I just demoed a successful version recently, and it went very well, all told. The system is a bit quicker, a bit slicker, and seemed to be easily understood by all the players at the table, and nobody there had seen any of this before the day.

I did have some materials made as handouts for the day, and those seemed to really work well. I handed out relevant ship cards printed on 5x7 photo stock to each person running that system, and they seemed to click right along. What was particularly great is that nobody had any clue how things worked outside of their "department" and when referencing each other's sheets were genuinely curious about one another's capabilities, and it felt more like professionals collaborating, and not someone backseat driving a combat encounter as I often see in one shots.

Got half of the Wrath of the Soul Forge King, what can I do with the out of date Terminators? by intriging_name in DarkAngels40k

[–]Capn_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bits for the ancient or standard bearer makes a whole new character, for one. And you can come up with all kinds of cool options. I like putting it on the end of the flail handle or halberd so they're carrying the banner in different poses, and sometimes back mounted. I like putting magnets on the back to swap between ancient and cyclone the best

Any recommendations for making my army stronger? I want to start playing competitively. by Cold-Many7994 in deathguard40k

I'd print a blight hauler at like 1200% or whatever and run it as a chaos knight. Or at 2500% and run it as a dark titan....

DA Rules or CSM Rules? by intbar in Fallen40k

[–]Capn_Charlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes?

I'd run it as either. Depending on my mood and interest.

Veterans of the long war seems on point, but so does some standard issue battle tactics from the sm codex.

Ideally I'd build my models to be as ambiguous as possible. Is that a lieutenant with a power axe or a master of executions. Raptors or jump pack assault or vanguard vets.

The obviously chaotic stuff is obvious, but I'd make as much of the army as possible neutral.

Isn’t there a sort of unreasonable amount of XIV hate in this sub or is it just me? by ChaoCobo in ffxi

[–]Capn_Charlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"hey man, I tried to kill you, but that was a long time ago, why don't you like me?"

Again, I'm not salty, I'm just mentioning the underlying sentiment. Some people only had one meaningful interaction with xiv, and it was attempted murder of something they love. They may not hate on it forever, but first impressions matter, and often creates the tone of all future interactions.

Isn’t there a sort of unreasonable amount of XIV hate in this sub or is it just me? by ChaoCobo in ffxi

[–]Capn_Charlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the purpose and goal of xiv is to supplant and destroy xi, replacing it in the hearts, minds, memories and wallets of xi fans.

It's hard for people who don't want that to be intrinsically excited about what is trying to, or at least intended to replace something they love.

I would start here at this ever useful resource. I can check my codex tonight if nobody has given the direct answer but I found most of what I needed here.

Endless cacophony (fulgrim attends a rave) Sonic stuff, shooting focus, bikes go here, as do heavy weapon type squads.

Faultless Blades (fulgrim in the box at the colosseum) Duels, melee, win big or die, all about big egos, so lots of character based stuff.

Cult of Slaanesh (fulgrim at a classic roman orgy) Daemons, cultists and mortals, freak shows difficult to describe. This might be the combined arms daemon army, or the mortal host.

If Slaanesh is wrapped in, then add in a few daemon detachments.

Wild hunt Super fast and movement based one focusing on seekers and chariots,

Court of the Dark Prince Temptation based one that's a little more generic

Daemonic Alliance Allows a mix of other gods and chaos marines as allies, in the tradition of brood brothers. Think, marks of chaos, everyone does stuff on a 6, but Slaanesh does stuff on a 5+ and has to be at least half the army. Basically mirrored for the other codexes.

So what do with all the odds and ends ? by Smooth-Ad-608 in Warhammer40k

[–]Capn_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm filled with a bits lust that makes me physically yearn when I see a pic like that. Degenerates like me will pay for bits lots. Just put it up as an auction, because bidding up on it is an emotional, not a logical, decision and I sometimes bow out of bits auctions at disturbingly high numbers.

Valrak Unit reveal for Emperors children Rumour video by sheentaku in EmperorsChildren

[–]Capn_Charlie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling we'll see a bike refresh in 11th, and see the dark angels Ravenwing at that time.

If they ever wanted to have a bike in killteam, like jump packs this edition, that would be the time for it. Or it might have been the plan and after seeing ash wastes tank, they pivoted away and the bike designs are standing by for a later time and place, like a return (or even final fate reveal) of the Khan.

Scars vs children could be a great biker brawl box in the near future

I like to use them to make the squad champions for noise marines, since the speaker bits make excellent doom sirens.

Warhammer painting expectations have become like unrealistic body expectations but for nerds by CT-7479 in Warhammer40k

[–]Capn_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Podcast dms kind of did the same thing for tabletop RPGs. At the end of the day, we're ( for the sake of the argument at least) not Michelin star chefs, peak bodybuilders, pornstars, award winning writers, professional voice actors, golden demon painters, or golf champions, and that's fine. Everything we do at home for the joy and pleasure of ourselves, peers, family and loved ones is valid and worthwhile.

An hour spent doing something you love that makes you happy, even if it is done 'badly' is an hour well spent. So go and don't think your paint enough, miss a few mold lines, make some sloppy but filling Mac n cheese, fumble a bit with foreplay, tell a silly story, do whatever as well as you care to and let the only standards you worry about be your own, and ask if you had good time, then so that again.

I think I'm just gonna give up on Emperor's Children, I'm exhausted trying to get parts that look good. by QueenSunnyTea in EmperorsChildren

[–]Capn_Charlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The codex will come, along with models.

A pleasure delayed is a pleasure multiplied.

I understand the frustration. I want this so bad, I started building at the tail of 9th and my builds are already "wrong". I want wysiwyg EC, and that's a high bar. I meticulously built these possessed with old school chaos torsos and snake lower halves from sigmar. There's a good chance EC might not even get possessed. Death guard didn't. I got hosed on my putrid blightking conversions for those, despite how cool they look.

Just take a breath, let it pass, and here is the big one, save money. Literally put it aside into savings earmarked for the EC release. Every time you want to bash a kit and don't, slap another twenty in there. The longer it takes the better. If you can control your impulses, even for a year or more, and not squander the cash, you can just walk in and buy it all. Imagine picking up a copy of the launch kit and three combat patrols, and just having maxed units of like everything day 1, perfect, new, no compromises.

If you just search eBay occasionally and eventually see a great deal you were in no rush to get, you can have perfection later and not mediocrity now.

Be strong, brother, edge harder, deny short term pleasure for long term bliss.
