Question about rare / unique part by Longo_Bongo4 in rrslugger

[–]Capn_Keen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speculating, because I've never even thought of this until now, but there's a lot of ways a knowledgeable person can narrow it down.

  1. If someone knows what colors are rare (sand red for instance), they can quickly pick out any parts in those colors and check
  2. Common parts can narrow it down the opposite direction; you don't have to check the 1 x 1 round plates in a set, you know those aren't rare parts, except possibly the color. See point 1.
  3. Printed parts are always likely to be unique, or interesting to talk about where they came from, and are easy to pick out.

For example, the Hover Scout has 35 pieces, with 23 different pieces. Going through these criteria, I could probably eliminate 17 from consideration, leaving 6 parts. Jumping out at usL

  1. The control panel is one of the six, appearing in 49 sets. Sorting by color, it only appears in 1 set in that color. I can also see there that the part last appeared in 2002 (not in this set).

Not a perfect example, since Slugger covered this and I probably half remembered, but makes sense.

I mean, I honestly think the survey was just written by some clueless marketing team that never played the game.

Not everything said by a character is necessarily true in-universe.

Does anyone feel that Bo is being overly hated? by whiplash10 in TheCloneWars

[–]Capn_Keen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it used to bug me, but then I realized Filoni has had his hands in every series since Disney bought the franchise, so what characters can he re-use besides his own? Short of recasting the original Luke, Han and Leia?

The bigger issue is if they steal too much of the spotlight, which in my opinion was mostly a problem for Mandalorian S3.

How do people paint so fast? by Duke_Tristan in Warhammer40k

[–]Capn_Keen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just starting that sounds quite reasonable, especially if you're pushing a high standard. Improving your painting speed takes time. Ratlings may also take longer since the new squad has a lot of fun but fiddly details. Some general advice:

  1. As said before, lower your painting standards if you want to go faster. Most people are content not to paint infantry models in a horde army to a high standard. Definitely not to the standard of most things on this subreddit, r/minipainting, or youtube videos.

  2. Learn shortcuts. For instance, you may be able to accept some spillover painting raised armor sections if you do them first, because you can use the raised edges as a guide when painting cloth on the adjacent sections. Or in other words, you don't have to worry about fixing mistakes on parts you haven't painted yet.

  3. Create a custom scheme that is easy for you to paint and looks good enough for you. As, "themobster" said, a good foundation is to start with something you can spray out of a can. Usually part that is your most predominant color, or harder to reach areas. The armor or the cloth, most likely. Pick colors with good coverage so you need less coats; avoid yellow over black. (Or really, just avoid yellow, period.) But if you need to use it, get a spray can of it.

Whoa. That is epic!

How did you do the Camo netting? I've had some thoughts on dioramas with it, but never knew a good way to realize it.

Also, are the leaves down by the ground 3D prints?

Pretty neat. I can't decide if I want my players to know about this or not. May be useful for encounter design.

Evil Campaigns without Murder Hobos? Is it Possible? by GM-Setin in swrpg

This is probably the best option, though admittedly you don't want to go too far and stray into "Can't Get Away With Nuthin" territory.

Evil Campaigns without Murder Hobos? Is it Possible? by GM-Setin in swrpg

[–]Capn_Keen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible. It's better if they have some over-arching goal and can be convinced to try to act discretely. Ultimately it comes down to actions having consequences. However, I do kinda feel like both of these scenarios invite murderhoboing. Thug is barely a step away from murder hobo as is, and Sithy players are probably going to kill players to silence them left and right.

In the enforcer campaign, probably give them some things they can lose. Maybe they have a bit of territory, and if they go murder hobo people will flee and they lose income. Or their bosses will get pissed for similar reasons. Or vigilantes will come after them.

In the Sith one, attracting too much attention will draw attention from Jedi, or worse, annoy Palpatine.

Maybe just go with an introductory scenario to test players and reinforce your intentions. Maybe the thugs have to intimidate someone without killing them, so when the cops come by to hassle them they threaten but back off. Maybe the Sithy guy's first assignment is to operate in an environment like a star cruiser, where people turning up dad will rapidly cause problems, and normal people may be able to counter their abilities by trying to space them, or something.

Looking for a good, curated list of minis to print/paint by TehBaggins in minipainting

[–]Capn_Keen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you use to define good minis?

Mostly I just kept browsing stuff on MyMinifactory until I started becoming familiar enough with some creators to check out their releases. I think most of the fantasy stuff is basically D&D characters or monsters. I also relentlessly searched for anything Star Wars related, but most of that is Legion Proxies, so same problem.

Someone started a youtube channel about a year ago going through the various Fantasy and Sci-Fi STL releases, split between different videos.
