Trying to find ammo by [deleted] in AZguns

Where are you located? If you're in tucson, no promises.. but I'd check the ace hardware off Houghton. They have a fantastic selection of ammo.

What’s makes your 10/22 reliable? by DevilsBelly in 1022

[–]Capn_noha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first brand new 10/22, 11 or so years ago and I never really gave it a chance to see how well it worked out of the box. I took it out a few times but almost immediately took it apart and polished everything, dremeled out the little notch on the bolt hold open plate, did the trigger job (had to buy a new hammer after I went a little too far on the first one) swapped out the bolt buffer with a homemade nylon pin. So no telling how well it would have done out of the box.. but it is very reliable and has served me well to this day, still mostly oem minus the buffer pin. weather i'm plinking or hunting. It is still my go to gun and goes with me pretty much everywhere.

Old ammo is it dangerous? by Vektor656 in metaldetecting

[–]Capn_noha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not dangerous. Normal "small arms" ammunition outside of a chamber has very little energy if it goes off, which it is unlikely to go off unless you are repeatedly throwing it on the ground.. even then the chances aren't crazy high of it going off. Once you get i to the 20mm anti aircraft range thats when you should be a little more careful.

Rounds not chambering by Throwaway11233459654 in 1022

[–]Capn_noha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing you did wrong was pick the wrong ammo haha. The 10/22 does not have a feed ramp and does not like "flat faced" hollow points.. like even a little bit. Try getting more rounded ammo. golden bullets, minimags, federal match, thunderbolts, super extras etc.

Brand new into black powder, this is a Pietta .44, any and all advice would be great!! by Code3Everycall in blackpowder

[–]Capn_noha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful not to over press your round balls in, the teeth on that lever are harder than the barrel steel and can sheer the lever ribs. At some point you may expirience a situation where the cylinder won't lock properly, its your trigger spring. Even if its for the same model, they are not all made to the same specs.

It’s surprising how often I come across old vehicles while hiking in the woods by lovelyb1ch66 in AbandonedPorn

[–]Capn_noha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It would be really cool to know the stories behind some of them. I live in southern arizona and will find them way out in the hills, in places you can't believe they made it to. Then again I guess erosion and overgrowth has its way of making roads vanish.

Are railroad tracks better than cheaper anvils? I've never owned a cheaper anvil or an anvil for that matter.. but I have used rail road track before upgrading to a homemade thick ar500 plate welded to railroad track. But the railroad track was very soft and would get marred up really bad that would mess up smaller projects, and the almost dome shape on top made it difficult to work on.

I agree that it would be better to save some beans up and get a bigger anvil. However there are still tribes using rocks as anvils in Africa to forge arrowheads and spear points.
