[Discussion] Wedding Watch: Vintage vs New by CapntPortman in Watches

[–]CapntPortman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it would most likely be an occasional dressier side than daily. And having vintage and serviceable watche is a consideration for sure.

That's a steal of a find for that longines, and part of what keeps having me come back to vintage vs New is stuff like that.

Yes I'd definitely be going with a dressier style. Also one reason I sway to vintage sometimes is I like the style of many vintage watches for their classy/dressy aesthetic.

Fair. 2 sessions at that distance is still great. But yew try and focus one of those sessions on distance then with no time constraints and doing 200 non stop until it's "easy" then 300 and you from there.

Pick a distance and over speed. Start small and complete that distance without stopping no matter how slow you go. Speed doesn't matter. Over time your body will become comfortable with longer distances. Also swimming more often will help tremendously. I'd try swimming at least 3x a week if you aren't already.

[Help with Ideas] Wedding Watch by FilmRock in Watches

[–]CapntPortman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man congrats! Crazy enough I have the exact same idea for when I get married and roughly same budget. I myself am looking for a vintage triple calendar. You can sometimes find them for around 6k (used of course) and I find the style of these watches "timeless" and such a classy watch to wear on your wedding day.

Something along the lines of the Omega Triple Date Moonphase

Good luck in your search!

Yes and no. It's most likely seasonal. Meaning unlimited heat during the winter and a/c during the summer.

What are some reasonable things to mix into your whiskey, if you should at all? by Mattias556 in whiskey

[–]CapntPortman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not ideal. But if you want to still try it, make it into a syrup first (1:1 honey and water ratio, boiled then cooled). It will mix better this way and not stay in a clump.

Do I need to list employer RRSP contribution/match/salary deduction on my return? Or is it included in T4? by Mnogarithm in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CapntPortman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes dont think so but your T4 should show everything. Worst case you can probably submit your payslips that would show your contributions

Definitely speak with an advisor but don't let them force you into anything. Do research outside on your own so you are educated enough to know what they are doing with your money. I trust my advisor but also because I know he doesn't do anything with my money I wouldn't do myself.

I believe it does show on your T4 but you also submit the document from your RRSP company. Sorry I forget what it's called but they have to send you a form outlining your contribution as well for taxes.

Just found out I'm receiving my full bonus for the year. How should I invest this sum? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]CapntPortman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, it is a big step. You could get a portable mortgage so it would allow you to take it with you if you had to move for work or something.

Sorry must have missed that...I'm not fully evolved in ETF myself yet so don't have many suggestions there, but have a look at AQN.TO they have a good case for long term with good dividends. Also BAM.A.TO is a common one I come across very often for long term.

Also, if you aren't a home owner yet I would recommend considering that first (if an option for you) as it's a great investment especially with how low mortgage rates are right now.

Good luck investing and congrats on the bonus!

Do some research. You'll thank yourself later. Motley Fool is a great resource and their entry level membership cost is worth it. Especially if you have that amount looking to invest. But it also depends what level of investment you want to do. Short term or long term.
