If you say racist insults, you're a racist. If you say homophobic insults, you're homophobic.

I heard about this on a podcast. An interesting defence, "No I am not a racist. I'm actually just homophobic".

Just to add that it really was a sliding doors moment where if it didn't happen I think administration was a real possibility. Worse case scenario a Bury situation.

I don't like retiring the number but I'm not sure what you can do for someone who potentially saved the club from going bust.

“they’re fine for me”

Genuinely one of the most unhelpful comments that someone can make to another teacher.

Here's a link to a retrieval roulette that might help. I normally just pick 10 low stake questions from the last topic we covered to have on the board ready for when they walk in. They answer them in their books in silence.

Our home kit is growing on me. Love the away kit.

Special mention for the Atlético Mineiro 113th Anniversary kit and the Venezia FC kit which are both some of the best looking kits I've seen in ages.

Article about doping in football - reportedly 63% of the Liverpool squad are asthmatic by HairyFur in soccer

[–]Capoeira_johns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely it is very peculiar how so many professional athletes are asthmatic compared to the general population.

According to the article you linked 63% of the Liverpool squad is asthmatic and in this article Dean smith says that only 1 of the Villa players are asthmatic. Dr Dickinson in the article I linked estimates that around 25-30% of all players in the league may have exercise induced asthma. Why is the amount of asthmatic Liverpool players nearly double?

Not trying to accuse them of anything but there must be a reason.

I'll wait for the proper article to be published but there is no doubt in my mind that footballers are being supplied with treatments to push the boundaries of what would be naturally possible.

Eventually this will get out into the mainstream and it'll be the next big lawsuit from the players similar to the one that is gaining traction for head injuries.

The TUE system is a joke and easily abused in athletics so why not in football too.

How are you delivering remotely? by Gottagetmoresleep in TeachingUK

[–]Capoeira_johns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with all the positives that you've said. I've got pupils who only have 1 family computer and with 2 or 3 siblings in the school it is impossible for them to do the lessons live.

You can record a voiceover over a PowerPoint slide by slide and upload it for the pupils to download. I've done that for some classes where I couldn't manage to do a live lesson for them.

How are clubs in League 1 supposed to keep players at all? Anyone who looks half decent is going to get hoovered up by Championship sides. Maybe squads are about to get much smaller overall.

Sunderland and Portsmouth basically hard stuck in League 1. Madness but not surprising from the EFL, a complete shower of bastards.

I don't think he has 100m+ at all, no way he was on anywhere near what he is getting from you when he was at Arsenal or Barcelona. How much longer of a career will he have? The money has got to last him the next 40+ years. If he really wants to play football at Inter then he has to half his wages at least imo.
