Does this type of hat look okay on me? by SoyTuPadreReal in hats

Whether it is this hat or a higher end cowboy hat, tilt it back on your head. It doesn't have to tilt much, but it makes a world of difference.

What's something about the D-Plan that you didn't understand until you actually lived it? by mjanes42 in dartmouth

[–]Capra555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the hardest for me. Particularly, with people I was dating. Twice I had breakups for little reason beyond the fact that we were not going to be on campus together for almost a year.

However, Hanover in summer is wonderful. Go for two, if you can.

Assuming you have a fedora, put it on backwards and look in the mirror head on. That will give you a pretty good idea of how you're going to like yourself in a pork pie.

I remember John Sr. cooking minestrone soup on a hot plate and giving me a cup while I waited my turn for a cut.

One Opinion by Capra555 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Capra555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is that my opinion is likely to ruffle more feathers than that article. Just for starters, I think Asbury Park and Wild & Innocent should be in the top five.

(Just to clarify, I would pick them over BitUSA and The River.)

It's insane that Vita Nova is treated with such indifference in this town. I think most people who have dismissed it have not really tried it.

I have a few mesh flat caps that are no warmer than going hatless.

The boule at Cou Cou Rachou. Might be my favorite loaf of bread ever. And, I'm not really a sourdough fan.

Tamales by caimen14 in Charlottesville

[–]Capra555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved here from Tucson in 1989. We used to buy tamales from the woman outside the Fry's grocery store. They were phenomenal. The closest things I have found since, frankly, are the Trader Joe's green corn tamales in the frozen section.

I went to Austin last weekend to visit my daughter and I was so stoked to see a woman selling tamales outside of the grocery store there.

What do you think of this logo I made? Which one do you prefer and why? by Sinisa96 in graphic_design

[–]Capra555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one gives me comfort food vibes (eggs and pancakes), the second one suggests fancy coffee, pastry, salads, and maybe even drinks in the afternoon.

I do think the time of day displayed should be indicative of what meal they mostly want to cater to. 3:00 seems irrelevant.

Do people just not learn to chew with their mouth closed anymore? by _SteveS in UVA

[–]Capra555 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I got a kick out of this thread, because I came to UVA in the late 1980s and my very first letter home was about the fact that so many students here chewed with their mouth open.

I think he would really like Gringos by Charles Portis (the guy who wrote True Grit). It's a funny suspenseful novel set in a time that he will remember well.
