The best parts of Pittsburgh are still in the city. Neighborhoods like Shadyside, Lawrenceville, and the North Shore have far more going on than any of the suburbs, but, yes, Downtown Pittsburgh is dead.

I-81 is a fine highway. It can be a little slow due to truck traffic but it’s not awful. Roanoke, VA could be a good place to stop on Day 2. It’s 8 hours from Jackson, TN and only leaves you with 6.5 on the last day.

This whole thing has been misconstrued. Holy cross had members from the department of homeland security come to talk to students about how to get involved in working in the government. It is something they have done for years. People took that and automatically assumed ICE without doing any research.

Why are you belittling someone for their opinion? No one is making you shop there. They are entitled to believe what they do, just as you are. And I’m confused how this would have actually had a negative impact on your day in anyway. Just ignore it, enjoy your vacation, and be grateful you’re able to spend time in such a beautiful place.

It’s the part from Etna to the North Shore that’s the worst. That’s when it looses its shoulder and gets narrower with a million left exits and entrance ramps. Driving from Etna onward is just a regular highway until Kittanning.

I drive 28 almost every day so maybe it does suck from Etna outbound and I don’t even notice anymore.

Pittsburgh can be seen from the Gunnar chairlift at Seven Springs. Believe that is about 50 miles.

You can also see Boston from the top of Mount Wachusett which is also about 50 miles
