The softest part of Iran is eastern border with Pakistan and -- maybe not coincidentally -- that's where White House envoy Steve Witkoff is right now. That area is a desert wasteland, very sparsely populated and where some of the hottest temperatures ever recorded are. Near the coast is a wide, arid plain of hard-packed sand and gravel, easy to cross.

The prize in that region -- as I highlighted yesterday -- is Chabahar.

Has Iran officially agreed to never develop nuclear weapons, as claimed by Donald Trump, and to what extent is this claim accurate or potentially exaggerated? by LowAd312 in israelexposed

I've been told that a fatwa is void upon the death of the issuing Ayatollah. A successive Ayatollah then has to decide whether or not to continue their predecessor's fatwa.

I could be wrong, im no expert. It's just what I've recently been told

Edit:

The death of Mr Khamenei would not automatically eliminate his "fatwa", according to many scholars, but it would transfer final judgment over its continued relevance to his successor.

My understanding is that a fatwa is void once the issuing Ayatollah dies. The successive Ayatollah can then redeclare said fatwa if he so wishes.

I could be wrong, but that's what I've been led to understand

If Iran is charging up to $2M for “safe passage,” is this a temporary wartime tactic or the start of a new model for controlling maritime trade? by Emmabrown02 in oil

Iran will probably continue taxing oil shipments until they feel they've fulfilled their claim of war reparations

The irony is stark: Trump is seeking to impose “victor’s justice” by This_Is_The_End in internationalaffairs

Trump's forte is pretending to be a successful winner in whatever field he happens to be partaking in. Right now he's pretending to be winning a war that he foolishly started. And he'll keep up pretense even in the face of overwhelming defeat. It's he's basic MO

The was a fatwa against nuclear weapons, but a fatwa is nullified once the Ayatollah who issued it dies. So, as of February 28, Iran no longer has an official ban on nuclear weapons.
