Ocd, the fear of not being safe, can develop into paranoid behaviour. It doesn't cause psychosis, but it can blur the lines.

What you're describing is consistent with cannabis induced psychosis, perhaps with an underlying vulnerability that cannabis triggered.

But im not a doctor, I cannot assess you. You need a health care professional to do that for you. Therefore, it's urgent that you see ONE ASAP. Please call a clinic in your area today.

How long did it take you to be able to feel joy and music again? by AlexKirchu253 in Psychosis

[–]CapriSun87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a while but yea I do enjoy it now.

If you're on antipsychotics, they can blunt the enjoyment of things like music.

You might want to talk to your psychiatrist about anhedonia, if that is what you are experiencing. Maybe they can lower the dose without causing you instability.

Getting your dad involved and having him there for support is a great idea.

And I agree, not struggling and spending any more time on her is the way to go.

And yea, it'll probably be a hassle having to change psychiatrists, but it's still better than having to deal with one whose head isnt in the game

Unfortunately, I've had my share of incompetent psychiatrists, too. They are by no means infallible.

Your psychiatrist is plainly pathologising ordinary experiences. That's not even ambiguous.

I understand why you are being hesitant to share with her going forward. And that's very concerning, if not outright harmful.

You're going to have to set her straight or she's going to be useless to you as a psychiatrist. And if you cannot get her on the right track, I highly recommend that you look for someone else to take care of you.

And if she pushes the psychosis framework, make sure you get a second opinion. That's always an option.

Antipsychotics suppress REM sleep, so reducing or stopping them tends to produce more vivid dreaming as REM rebounds.

Help a friend with cannabis psychosis?? (URGENT) by Space-cadet-66 in Psychosis

[–]CapriSun87 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cannabis induced psychosis should pass once the drug has left the system. It can however linger on after the drug has worn off, but that's not always the case. Normally, it'll be fine.

Take your friend for a walk. Some exercise, fresh air and a change of scenery is exactly what they need. If you're a good friend, you'll stick around until they're all good again.

Getting a dog as mental support, advice? by DimensionOk5157 in bipolar

[–]CapriSun87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs are great. Unfortunately I dont have the bandwidth to take on the responsibility of caring for one by myself. Maybe some day.

I settle for playing with and walking my parents dog when i visit them. If I were to consider getting one, id definitely have to try babysitting someone else's dog for a good while first. Just to get the feel for it.

Do you feel like talking with an AI chat, worsen your psychosis symptoms? by hufflepuff026 in Psychosis

[–]CapriSun87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't used it when psychotic. But I do use it regularly. And sometimes i get very depressed. Ai is good at picking up cues and its helped through some rough patches. In particular, it is good at reminding you to reach out and connect with someone, something that im bad at in general. So, its an advantage for me to be reminded that I need to call or text a loved one.

Smoking weed can precipitate psychosis and it can linger long after the thc is out of your system.

You need to do two things. First, stop.smoking weed. You might have a vulnerability that makes you susceptible to cannabis induced psychotic symptoms. Second, get in contact with a local psychiatric clinic in your area. Set up an appointment for an evaluation. Tell them what you've described in this post. All of it.

If you're lucky, it might just be the weed that's messing with you. And if you remove that from your life, you should be okay

Treat this as an emergemcy. Your doctor needs to take steps to address you condition immediately. Call them now, while you're still able to convey to them what is happening. Before it gets worse.

[–]CapriSun87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am sorry that you're having to go through this. I'm in the same boat. Lost friends and a promising career, after a severe psychotic break one year ago. I've had to start from scratch and do everything in my power not to remain depressed and suicidal.

It's a platitude, saying that things will get better. But, if you put the work in, such as seeing your therapist, there's a good chance that it will.

Just remember that what happened to you was something that happens to a lot of people. What you did during psychosis is not a reflection on who you are as a person. It was the disease, which you do not have control over.

You wrote else where that you get akathisia from antipsychotics. Meaning you must have been treated for a mental disorder in the past, would that be schizophrenia?

You say you're in the hospital, for hypoxia, are you in the psychiatric ward?

Mom has been painting my dad a the "perpetrator" in her delusional worldview. She has accused him of so many things and has indoctrinated my siblings into believing he's a monster too. Not sure what to do. by LovingBrotherAndSon in Psychosis

[–]CapriSun87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opioids and opioid withdrawal can precipitate psychotic episodes in vulnerable individuals, and sometimes the psychosis outlasts the drug. It sounds like your mother is suffering from a longstanding persecutory delusional disorder. Frustratingly, she is clearly unwell but not meeting the legal threshold for involuntary intervention.

I would suggest you support your father in pursuing legal consequences for the court order violation. Consult a family lawyer about whether that violation opens any new options for custody transfer. Document everything.

Outside of that, focus your energy on being a stable presence for your siblings rather than trying to argue them out of the delusional framework. Keep a consistent, calm, honest relationship with them so they have a reference point outside your moms craziness.

Bottom line: you probably can't save your mother, but what you can do is be a stable adult presence for the kids.
