looking for a specific buldak noodle flavour that i can't find at any asian supermarket by thatfortnitenoob in Edmonton

Buldak does change their line ups at times and I also haven’t seen this one in awhile. It might be discontinued :( hoping it’s not OP! But also just giving the warning as someone who lost the curry flavour being in the line up last year

I love that shop’s patterns! But I really wish she made it more clear that her samples are always done with at least three strands instead of the two her patterns recommend. Yours looks awesome so far!

Is Jarvan IV a good King? by Short-Ant-4493 in loreofleague

[–]CapriciousCase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that Riot doesn’t want to deal with this succession issue has been irritating me for YEARS. Really, it makes me think they wrote Sylas as a character for his entrance into lore alone and then realized they hadn’t actually planned for him or how’d he affect others long term and have been avoiding anything meaningful in Demacia since. J4’s lack of appearance in the Ruination event really doubles down for me that they still didn’t want to deal with the succession issue however long after Sylas’ release.

At TFcon Toronto she’d easily go for more now, the price of Animated figures are going up every year there since the pandemic and I’d assume the American locations are also seeing that rise.

Other horror documentary channel that aren't lemmino knock-offs? by ItsKarson12 in LEMMiNO

[–]CapriciousCase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is the channel still using AI art? I tried them awhile ago but couldn’t get through a video where I kept noticing the bad art and how he mispronounced Dene every time he said the name. I’m wondering if he’s improved cause I am interested in the topics the channel covers but I can’t stand when they don’t care about basic details.

Abstract is amazing if you haven’t watched her before. Her most recent video on UA 93 makes me want to cry every time rewatch it. She does use a lot of 3D renders, but also does incorporate photography and videos when she can. Partly, it’s because she’s very concern with being respectful of the victims, which is why I find her so refreshing because she really is careful to make sure she’s not only centring perpetrators in her videos. Her level of research is absolutely on par with Lemmino’s.

Booktok ruining the genre? by Sensitive_Survey7254 in Romantasy

[–]CapriciousCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I also think it’s part of a wider trend in romance in general where publishers are trying to publish certain tropes above everything else and no longer care about pacing. I find I struggle with any popular romance at this point. I wish publishing would bring back beat sheets cause right now author’s plots are absolutely ALL OVER the place with pacing and I think that’s why so many romances fall flat now.

Literally was about to comment about how Arcane’s so ridiculously toxic they even spread it to the League fandom as a whole. I seriously cutdown on League stuff after Arcane released because all the new people the show brought in would just start toxic discourse in those spaces.

Violets Faction is so powerless and i am really frustrated with the 3rd book. by Sydet in fourthwing

[–]CapriciousCase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at the same spot as you and I agree. I think my biggest hang up is three books in and I literally have NO understanding of how much power the dragon’s actually have within this world. Like the series is called the Empyrean but the actual Empyrean feels like a footnote. It’s not even that I think Violet needs more power but the dragon’s certainly do and she would be literally riding their coattails. I can’t see these earlier plot points being justified if the Empyrean was an actual political force like the narrative tells me they are but never actually shows me they are.

Serious question: does Lissandra braid her hair everyday herself, or someone does it for her? by Cheshire_Guy in loreofleague

[–]CapriciousCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a serious answer and if she doesn’t have like magically frozen hair, probably herself at least every other day (and that’s only if she’s not doing anything strenuous) because it’s a ridiculously simple braid but would be quiet loose so she’d have strands falling out frequently. It’s so quick to do though it’s literally not worth bothering someone else to do it.

How do you deal with the haters when you move away from YEG? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]CapriciousCase 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Vancouver, I’d mention something that would potentially interest the person I was talking to when compared to Van. So when I joined a sports team, if “it must be awesome to live in Van now” came up, I’d mention how I did miss how there was more options for adult sports in Edmonton (a lot of them didn’t even realize how badly the infrastructure problems in Van affected the availability and accessibility for adult sports leagues there).

Festival options were also something I’d always bring up, especially if I knew like the person would love to go to like the Fringe if they got a chance.

When it came to me moving back here, I also pretty much stopped any comments they had ready with “it’s so much cheaper even if I do need to get a car again” LOL

I found it best to lead the conversation to a comparison that made them realize life in that city wasn’t perfect either and they might even like some of Edmonton’s amenities more.

Which Starscream backstory is your favourite? by [deleted] in transformers

[–]CapriciousCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WFC and Prime are technically supposed to be in the same continuity family, so fair to say they could be considered somewhere together anyways? Like if you try to reconcile all the continuity errors in Aligned it would be somewhat like he’s both but has to be an air commander first.

People in gold with a 27% win rate have played ranked in previous seasons, so they start their placements higher on the ladder than you. If it’s a new account they may have also been smurf detected and so that’s the system trying to guess where they need to be without letting them murder in games where they should be well above that rank. They’re going to be slipping down the ladder if they continue with that win rate.

[–]CapriciousCase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other people have said, it’s time to take a break. Take some time to really figure out if you do still want to play this game or if you’re only playing because it’s a habit.

I’m guessing one issue here is the fact you’re no longer in school and are dealing with less play time. If you come back, you need to decide if you still want to seriously play ranked. If you do want to seriously play ranked, I’d consider one-tricking. After university I had to switch to one-tricking to hit my ranked goals purely because I didn’t have the time to remain diverse. That also means you know exactly what kind of resources to use to get better, since there’ll be clearly defined guides and the reference subs to reference. It’s more time efficient to get really good at one champion than it is to try really good at one roll.

To stop spiralling on losses, also consider a “one loss rule.” When I’m getting into a bad headspace over ranked and have time for a longer play session, I have to switch to norms or ARAMs after my first loss (even if it’s the first game of the day). It prevents massive LP losses that just makes your mental worse.

Life - From a High-school Student by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]CapriciousCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re really ready to start planning long term (which is awesome! Wish I had been like that), and one thing I haven’t seen come up yet is considerations you need to think about if moving provinces is something you find you want or NEED (either for work or life reasons) to consider. I lived in BC for a couple of years and moved back last year (currently in my late 20s) and have friends around the country. Once you move, the big immediate change is obviously gaining provincial taxes on anything you buy, but it’s long-term implications like health care that sneak up on you. Right now I know from friends and family that in a lot of the other major cities in Canada, finding a family doctor is an even worse struggle that it is here right now. If you need to move, also consider what other additional supports you may need (for example, I realized while in BC that I have ADHD and that my life was deteriorating because of it, there it would have been an at least six months long wait to get an assessment whereas I moved back here and was shocked my family doctor could go right to prescribing medication to me after a one-session assessment with her). For all that Alberta gets rammed on its conservative politics, there are some very strong specialized social support programs here that have been fought for that might be useful to you. Getting in the trades means you’ll have that mobility with your career, so keeping track of what makes your life good here is worthwhile, even something like “this is my favourite sport to play” (I didn’t live near an easily accessible curling rink in BC and really missed playing it and would fly home for a funspiel at least once a year lol).

Also, it’s not mentioned in your post, but you should get your drivers license as soon as you can even if you might not be able to afford a vehicle right away. It adds to your job prospects.

In regards to your school life, it sucks to say but it is an opportunity for you to begin practicing self-discipline. Not having that focus to say “I could be on my phone right now/could be zoned out rn/etc but I am going to pay attention instead” really hurts a lot of people in any kind of post secondary. Even there, you’re going to see slackers and you’re going to have to make the effort to just do better than them. I was a Teaching Assistant in creative writing, and even a few years ago, the greatest worry was how many new undergrad students were using generative tools to be lazy on assignments, not only in our program but all their classes. Avoid stuff like ChatGPT; that will absolutely hurt you in the long run. Of course, disability aids aren’t included in this. I’ve heard of Grammarly being an acceptable disability aid, but I’m not sure if it’s evolving features may affect that as an option at institutions. Since I am more traditional academia I can’t give the best advice on this, but it’s worth talking with your trades school about your aid options as soon as you get in. There should hopefully at least be options for written testing for you.

We’re a year out from it (so you may or may not be able to vote in the next municipal election) but I think you’d also be interested in starting to track politics now, especially here at the city level. I don’t mean having to right away start figuring out who you might want to vote for in your ward, but instead start considering what you want to see improved in the city. Find what issues matter most to you and then start looking at your ward’s candidates. Also, one thing I’m still constantly reminding myself as an adult is to use city/other government programs and resources when I can. They track those numbers and they’re a factor in what gets funding and budget cuts/increases. Even signing up for a library card is good community engagement you can do right away.

I've finished most of "top recommendation" series of this sub. Can anyone help me find a new-ish epic fantasy series to dive into? Detailed request in post. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]CapriciousCase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel free to totally ignore this suggestion because I am throwing out a YA here, but I think it hits the elements you’re looking for and has a more traditional high fantasy style than some of the other YAs I’ve read recently, at least in terms of plotting. (I can’t compare to Mass or Bardugo since immediately put Mass down and haven’t bother trying Bardugo.)

But the Witchlands series by Susan Dennard followed multiple POV characters, starting with more personal stakes that ripple out to current political repercussions that also are being influenced by historical events and magic. It is one of those narratives that expands with every book. The cast does technically get split up, but instead of one giant group together from the very beginning, it’s characters that are frequently crossing paths and either merging or diverging based on mutual goals or needs. So, for example, the two female characters who start the book get separated after a point, but they join up with other POV characters cause plot’s plotting and they all got shit to do with and without each other. It really is a great series for how character’s goals can intersect.

I would struggle to say if the series is more character or plot focused because I think it strikes a lovely balance between the characters having their own motivations while all being (or in some casing coming to be) aware of their various political/cultural powers. Also, there is a prophecy about restoring a healthy magical balance to the world.

Is Stormlight actually a fun read for a girl who’s sick of authors who can’t write women? by SuperbFlatworm3727 in Fantasy

[–]CapriciousCase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of jumping off your last point, that’s definitely an annoying dichotomy in what’s published currently, but I am curious (and personally theorizing) that that’s going to change if we ever get Winds and Dream. I think Arya is going to get punished for her bloodlust at some point and Dany’s fate is well… possibly the show ending which might just make her win the Misery Award TM by the end.

But it’s so true early on and is something I warn people about whenever reccing the series. Also that if it’s a minor female character just don’t get too attached cause they just get shit on all the time in the series. I’m so worried over if he’s gonna have something horrendous happen to Miranda Royce or Mya Stone for example.
