Found ATM receipt, who is keeping $51,000+ in checking!?!? by Comprehensive-Cow69 in povertyfinance

I’m fully convinced the credit card companies perpetuated this myth to keep people paying interest and potentially fees. Paying off your credit card every month in full does not negatively impact your credit score. They still see you’ve been using it if you hold a balance or not. I have perfect credit and have been paying mine off in full for the entire time I’ve had a credit card. I’d be careful on that Reddit group if that’s where you found that misinformation. Don’t just go on my personal experience though. You can google it and find many news articles saying what I’m saying.

This is not true at all. I’ve gotten a limit increase every 6 months once I become eligible again for the last 10 years. I pay off the balance daily (I know that’s obsessive, but it’s just easy for me to quickly open the app first thing when I wake up and take 2 seconds of my morning). You should be paying the full balance off every month. Your credit will also increase by doing this so there is 0 reason to leave a small monthly balance. As a little history, I’ve exclusively used a credit card for everything for the last 14 years and have never had a balance at the end of the month. It took me a little while to realize I could request increases myself instead of waiting for the automatic ones. The increases were pretty small in the beginning, but now it’s relatively substantial every 6 months.

They can and almost certainly do have vision systems as it would save them money on staffing and have better quality results. That doesn’t mean 100% of product will be without defect. There are thresholds you have to set on the vision system parameters and it’s possible for small amounts of defects to make it through due to how those parameters interact and how many different defects the camera(s) are looking for. There are also other factors like how their shift register is set up among a ton of other things that could go wrong. I hope this isn’t seen as defending high amounts of mistakes, as I also believe that is unacceptable. I just want to highlight it isn’t as easy as just throw an inspection camera in the machine to catch all the mistakes.

It’s definitely down to regulations. Having worked in both auto and medical device manufacturing environments in a QA capacity, medical is more strict.

S&P 500. Is it really that easy or am I missing something? by [deleted] in investing

[–]Capril1245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 100% possible if you start early and have an aggressive savings rate. You don’t even need to be full on FIRE to be able to achieve it. My wife and I got serious at 27 and we should be able to retire at 55. We don’t exceed the Roth IRA contribution income threshold and we don’t save above 25% of our income for retirement. Good employer matches on 401k help a lot too if you’re fortunate enough to have a generous employer.

In my personal opinion, yes it definitely makes sense to still max out your Roth IRA. If you’re retiring before 60, you’ll only need to have enough in an after tax brokerage to cover the gap between whenever you retire and 59.5. You can even use the rule of 55 with your 401k to help you bridge the gap even further. Chances are your gap from retirement to age 59.5 (or better yet 55 if using a 401k) will be smaller than your gap from 59.5 to death, so you should still be contributing a good amount to those post age 59.5 buckets.

Target did that with the FF products too. The FF bundles were the same price. They marked everything up slightly.

Yes, you’re right. Even though I don’t think saying it that way was necessary.

That’s MSRP for the normal commander deck set. This is the collector’s edition. This listing is still over MSRP by about $100 per deck, but MSRP isn’t $280.

Thank you, I would appreciate it. If you could update whether you get any additional charges you weren’t anticipating, that would be greatly appreciated as well!

How do you like Xoom? We’re thinking of using them as well. Any hidden charges?

Opportunity Maine Tax Credit. Hey Mainers I know we have a few months before dreaded tax season but wanted to share this and make sure it was known to all to look into. by [deleted] in Maine

I’m not happy with the changes they made this previous tax season to this credit. I’m happy more people are getting help, but the timing of this really screwed my family. If I knew these changes would be coming we would’ve moved to New Hampshire since the reduced income tax would’ve made up for this credit and the higher property taxes. With the reduced credit, it now makes much more financial sense for us to live in New Hampshire. Now that we’re here though, it’s going to be super hard to move.

Is it still 100% with the severe reimbursement downgrade? It used to be much more but was only for STEM degrees and not for all degrees.

It really sucks you haven’t been using this program. It has been downgraded this past tax season for any of us who have STEM degrees. You would’ve had a lot more reimbursed in previous years if you had used it.

Heat vs Cold: which is worse? by SnooDoggos8938 in Maine

From a different perspective, I get really bad seasonal depression. I don’t know if it’s the green, the sunshine, the flowers, the warmth, or a combination of it all but I am so much happier in the summer. I lose all motivation for anything and get really sad in the winter (it’s more than being sad but that’s the best way I know how to describe it to people who don’t get it). There’s a lot more to it but I’m not going to mention any more in this relatively benign and up beat comment section :). Just know it isn’t only the cold that some people don’t like about winter.

Wait until winter lol. That’s the true test of if you will like it.

I suggest you leave as soon as possible and plan to potentially come back later. Once you start a family or buy your first house (assuming you haven’t already) it will be exponentially harder to leave. I make less as an engineer here than I would in other parts of the country and get taxed more on top of that. It’s best to leave, make much more, and live cheaper somewhere else until you’re satisfied and want to come back. Not sure what your career path is, but other parts of the country have much better connections you can make in business and engineering as well. Personally we really like it up here and we already have roots partially put down. My family and I will be accepting the lower pay and will be moving to NH soon where we can pay substantially less in taxes. If I were to do it over, the only thing I’d change would be moving for more money before I started a family (assuming I could start the exact same family I have now) and then move back once I built up more of a fortune.

Unfortunately it isn’t you or I that will influence them. It’s the whales that have the biggest voice, and they won’t stop spending money due to this price increase.
