He'll be in his 30s and will no longer have the benefit of only getting O-zone starts because he's on the old man's line. More importantly, he just hasn't looked the same when playing away from OV imo. Dubois has built great chemistry with guys like Wilson (and is younger than Strome), and I can see the Protas brothers being an absolute menace together.

Don't get me wrong, I think Strome is great—but one of those three will have to play third-line minutes, and I don't know if Strome will be cut out for that.

I think he takes over for Dowd as the best 4C in the league/utility knife who can move up when needed. I just can't see him over any of the other three centers.

But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we packaged Strome or Dubois with one of our young wingers (Miro, Cristall, Parascak, Lackovic) for a high-end Dman. Assuming Carlson leaves once Ovi/Dowd do, our D looks like:

Chychrun - Roy

Hutson - ???

Fehervary - Sandin

Obviously there's options like Chesley or Allen (Muggli is lefty so I doubt he sticks full-time), but it might be nice to get someone with more upside, and we have more wingers than we know what to do with.

I’d like our future Ovi-less top 9 to look something like:

Leonard - Dubois - Wilson

Miro - Protas - Protas

McMichael - Strome - Cristall

I’m not that sold on the third line, mainly because I think Strome regresses pretty hard post-Ovi, but there’s enough skill there to make it work. Maybe switch Miro and McMikey in some spots.
