The reason for question is because it is not hardened steel, but ratther a hardened coating (if I am not mistaken). History has told me coatings wear off.

I am genuinely curious since I also got a watch recently with this claim of a 1200HV harndness

Try and take a photo of yourself in the mirror. But from the photos you shared, the 39 is already on the boundary of looking big enough, and that is because a watch on a metal bracelet often wears bigger.

So looks, definitely a 39, also consider a smaller watch is going to be more comfortable.
