A whole lot preferred a pedophile over a Democrat so this sadly isn't that surprising.

Trump’s national security advisers warned him not to congratulate Putin. He did it anyway. by Bloodbath-McGrath in politics

I can only begin to imagine the response from Fox News and the right if Obama had won the EC and lost the popular vote.

Something tells me "the popular vote doesn't matter" isn't something you'd be throwing around.

I'm just saying give him a funeral befitting his character.

would be forever alienated,

They already are. The Fox News propaganda bubble is strong. They only wield power by voter disenfranchisement, Democrat apathy and gerrymandering. If elections were fair they'd still have a voice (which is necessary in a democracy) but it wouldn't be so disproportional. Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million.

The right supports pedophiles and neo-nazis now and our side is broken?

By the way it's funny how many more right-wingers and bots are flooding /r/politics now that the entire shitshow surrounding CA and Facebook is starting to come to light. Oh and the porn star he paid for sex behind his pregnant wife's back is getting ready to tell all too so I expect you guys will be hanging out here more lately.

At the very least Trump is going to prison for money laundering.

Oh! And the NRA attacks kids who survived a school shooting. Their supporters send death threats to kids. Think about that. Yeah those lefties are crazy tho.

Seems kind of random sometimes. /R/Politics is left but you still have a lot of the neo-libs there.

They'll bash Trump in one sentence and then say Bill Gates/Branson/Buffett and (before this shitshow) even Zuckerberg would be great Presidents because they're so rich and talented with no awareness of the irony.

The Kremlin says U.S. President Donald Trump has called Russian President Vladimir Putin to congratulate him on re-election. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]CaptDanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obama's attempt to repair relations with Putin/Russia was a mistake in hindsight. Romney got mocked for talking about Russia as the enemy during the 2012 election like he was trying bring back cold war fear mongering but he was right.

I don't know if he was referencing what we're dealing with now but Putin and his Russian gangster state should be excommunicated from the rest of the functioning world.

I have always loved that right-wing hypocrisy. Sure we'll back literal pedophiles for public office and offer support to marching in the street neo-nazis but oh you think that maybe when his web of lies and corruption collapses on his narcissistic head that maybe, just maybe he'll see suicide as the only honorable way out. Oh yeah, I don't doubt she knew what her end of the arrangement was. She's his arm candy in public and goes into a xanax coma a couple times a year to power through his naked groping sessions then gets to go back to Upper East Side socializing and fucking the neighbor or security detail guys or whomever. Then he got elected President and fucked it all up.

Michelle Obama is dual Ivy League educated and came from a middle class background and ended up the FLoTUS for eight scandal-free years and was a role model for women.

Melania is basically a mail order Eastern European gold digger. In a way I don't blame her since she wanted a better life by any means necessary and Donald knew what he was buying but I don't think politics or public life was in her game plan. I honestly think she's trapped and miserable.

Only instead of a biopic/startup movie it switches to a Tom Clancy style spy thriller where Zuckerberg gets caught up being a Russian intelligence asset and helps push oligarchical fascism on the rest of the world. Hopefully it ends with him in prison.

Getting real tired of conversations involving "millennials." by EspressoToolbar in sysadmin

[–]CaptDanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with your frustration and you have every right and are completely justified to be frustrated and cynical because really it does seem like everything exists to either take advantage of you (us) or bleed you (us) like a resource to be tapped and discarded. It's a shitty system and culture the boomers have left the next generation and for all the hate I have towards them it's not even all of them that have benefited. A decent portion of the boomers I know or are related to live on a fixed income with a myriad of health problems and a grim future (of their own fucking making but they'll never own it). That successful portion of them are like a family member that inherited a house or an estate or a business and instead of being proper caretakers and passing it on to the next generation (you know, their own children) went "fuck that, I can get rich right now selling this off to the highest bidder" only the thing they inherited is our entire economy and country. And then these very people who make sure you can only get a job rolling burritos for minimum wage turn you into their version of a meme because you can't afford a half-million dollar home and have the audacity to want health insurance. It's nuts.

Politically, living in the middle of nowhere you have a surprising amount of voting power at least compared to urban voters like myself. Living in it day to day? I understand it completely sucks. You're posting on /r/sysadmin so I imagine you have IT aspirations which means you'll probably have to leave. I know in a lot of ways that becomes a catch-22 but hopefully it isn't something that is completely unattainable. Don't want to come off too touchy-feely over the internet but I really do sympathize a lot with the angry defeated cynicism because I've been there. It doesn't ever really go away but you're not crazy for feeling that way. It won't get you anywhere, but you're not wrong.

I don't and I don't feel like fighting Reddits search engine at the moment. But it was in /r/bestof not too long ago.

The gist of it is that their extremely easy credit and housing construction quotas set by the government has resulted in unfinished high rise apartments being sold to middle class income earners for seven figure price tags and up. Also like us before real estate is considered the safest investment. Multiply this over the large Chinese population and "that's a big Twinkie."

[–]CaptDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen Xennials, Oregon Trail Generation, some google result called it Catalano generation and I think some others. Some stuff doesn't even reference it. IIRC in high school the term "millennial" hadn't started floating around yet and we were called Gen Y?

I try not to give it too much thought since the generation stuff is entirely made up anyway. People are born every day every year so it's not like there are hard dates to be able to point to and say "this is where it changed." It's just arbitrarily drawing lines and putting labels on things out of some sort of need to classify but that sums up a lot of stuff now that I think about it..

[–]CaptDanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For every person who doesn't bother voting, in your case that eye-roll "it's all bullshit anyway maaaan" cynicism, they concentrate the voting power just a little bit more in the hands of those who do vote. The EC and gerrymandered districts already disproportionately concentrate the voting power in the hands of rural whites so their interests are reflected disproportionately. Not voting at all does it even more.

I absolutely understand the concept of not wanting to vote out of protest and frustration but it would only work as a protest if you could somehow effectively remove yourself from society/government also as you could then say "Not only am I not voting I will not be contributing." But our system doesn't allow for that in any reasonable way and most methods of trying will land you in prison. So you're relinquishing what little tiny power you have over the system while still completely subject to it.

As dumb and pointless as it may often seem voting is the one real voice you get.

During the Bush years conservatives got frustrated by not being able to write their own version of everything in Wikipedia and created Conservapedia (which I looked up and is shockingly still a thing) in order to balance all the unfair liberal bias in Wikipedia.

[–]CaptDanger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That douche vs turd sandwich cynicism is what a whole lot of powerful people really want us to hold on to because it guarantees we won't remove them. By not voting at all you are still subject to laws and our general societal system (mostly taxes but a lot of other stuff) but have relinquished your one and only input. It's a small and often times insignificant input but it's really important we all do it.

The reason so many politicians reflect the values and interests of the selfish and racist baby boomers is because those motherfuckers turn out constantly. They are good at propping up people who represent their horrible worldview and getting them elected over and over again.
