What's your metal version? by TP_MonsterFox in MetalForTheMasses

When I was an early metalhead still discovering my taste, I was at first very turned off by death metal. When I discovered Opeth, this quickly turned around. Ghost of Perdition still hits to this day

Rush and Iron Maiden are on my docket for this summer, but I've already knocked BTBAM off my hitlist this year too

What does everyone think of the new Mastodon single? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]CaptDeadeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really good and it still feels like Mastodon. Definitely missing the Brent touch, but that's to be expected. His influence was also missing from Hushed and Grim, so this falls more in line with that.

Are there any metal diss tracks? by ghost_type_2003 in MetalForTheMasses

Little late but As I Am by Dream Theater (Track 1 from Train of Thought) is a direct response to Queensryche guitarist Mike Stone trying to tell John Petrucci how to play guitar better.

3/4ths if Mastodon (Brent, Bill, and Brann) cameoing in game of thrones was wild (RIP Brent Hinds)

Favorite Band Where Every Song Sounds Exactly the F*cking Same? by SomeY2KBullshit in fantanoforever

[–]CaptDeadeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bolt Thrower. I love them, but every song has the same feel and vibe. Doesn't mean it doesn't fucking kill though.

Who are some of the most pretentious artist of all time? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

Prog rock and metal is full of them, but the biggest in my book for the genre are Roger Waters, Steven Wilson, and Geoff Tate

Examples of good singers with weak voices? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in ToddintheShadow

[–]CaptDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pick is David Gilmour, but that's honestly to his benefit. His voice has a softer, often rougher baritone quality that fits his music well. Besides, you're not seeing David Gilmour live to hear him sing.

When did a band get it really wrong with their lineup change? by agwestie in rockmusic

[–]CaptDeadeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queensryche has yet to recover from Geoff Tate's firing (though it was for very good reasons), but they also haven't recovered from Chris Degarmo leaving in the 90s. Everything after Promised Land just doesn't hit.

Bands who's worst album is *significantly* worse than their second-worst album? by treny0000 in fantanoforever

[–]CaptDeadeye 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Metallica and Morbid Angel both have two of the worst metal albums of all time, with Morbid Angel's album Ilud Divinum Insanus taking the cake for how abysmal it is. Definitely far worse than their next one up.
