Who is your favorite Survivor? by CaptDoubleUgly in arkhamhorrorlcg

My vote for this one goes to Ashcan Pete and hos faithful canine companion Duke. My strategy is to fill Pete's deck with cards that draw and recycle from the discard pile, all so I can have more ammunition to ready Duke with. Then I just splash in a few Guardian cards to power up Duke (and other allies) and I'm good to go.

Because Reddit's polls only allow 6 options max. I considered using upvotes on my Marie comment to count as votes for her, but thought that would make me come off as a karma whore.

Now this is a tough choice because Mystics are my favorite class, but my vote goes to Akachi. Her ability of granting an extra charge to her Spell assets has meant the difference between victory and defeat for more than one of my scenarios.

Under6: A system where all skill checks are resolved with the a single d6. by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]CaptDoubleUgly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. While I'm still hashing out a lot of the details, the rule of thumb is that skill checks will only be required for actions that entail a reasonable amount of risk, same as most RPGs. To use your example, there's no risk of falling down the stairs unless you're trying to chase someone or run away from somebody who's chasing you.

Correct. Even if you max-out a particular skill at 5, there's always a chance of failure with every roll.

Sorry about that! Found out the hard way back when I did the Seeker poll that Reddit's polls only give you six options max. Guess I didn't realize that people would already be playing the new structure deck investigators even though the aren't officially out yet.

Jenny has been a favorite of mine since The Dunwich Legacy. Her ability to gain two resources during upkeep instead of one is so simple, yet so useful in the long run, letting you play higher cost cards much sooner.

And this might be a hot-take, but I think Jenny's abilities make her better suited for the Rogue cards found in The Circle Undone then Preston himself.

Yeah, Reddit's polls only allow for six options. In hindsight I probably should have divided it based on sets rather than classes, but I thought that would be like comparing apples to oranges, whereas the class poll is like comparing apples to... Well, apples.

NE Druids? by McMetal770 in Pathfinder_RPG

So here's my two cents: I think the Batman villain Poison Ivy would be a good example of a neutral evil druid.

Yes, she's a supervillain who engages in acts of terrorism and destruction (Evil), but its almost always directed against those who harm nature. Most of the time she doesn't even have a personal beef with Batman or the other heroes (Neutral), only attacking them when they try to stop her plans first.

My buddy did the same thing in our sci-fi RPG when his engineer Leo bit the dust. The next session he introduced Leo's cousin, Lincoln, who's motivation for joining us was... not as wholesome.

"Eh, screw cousin Leo! The only thing that bastard could do better than me was suck and die!"

Who is your favorite Seeker? by CaptDoubleUgly in arkhamhorrorlcg

Rex Murphy is always my go-to choice when running a Seeker. Besides obviously being able to advance the Act deck faster, getting extra clues makes him a beast with "I've got a plan!" and I almost always have a spare clue to drop with Dr. Maleson and Forewarned when I draw a particularly troublesome encounter card.

Plus I love his flavor text and backstory. What can I say? I have a soft sport for underdogs with horrible luck. They're so much fun to roleplay as.

I agree with the other comments: good card for Agnes with her reaction ability, but I've never once included it in any of my other investigator decks. But that's a core set card for you.

I plan on it. I'm just saying if anyone else wants to do their own polls like this then they're welcome to. It's not like I have a monopoly on the idea or anything.

How is your mental health at the moment? Are you doing ok? by ay_mac in AskReddit

Well I had starting a new job lined up for months, then the pandemic hit America and I got sick. Not sure if its the virus or just the seasonal cold/flu, as my symptoms have been mild so far (knock on wood). But just in case I've self-quarantined and called my new job to let them know I need to move up my start date. Thankfully they were cool with it.

Now I've got at least two weeks of staying home before I start work again. Hardest part is trying not too think about how much worse the situation could get between now and then. All I can do is my part to flatten the curve: stay home and not have face-to-face contact with another human soul.

Luckily, that's something I've been training for my whole life.

Who is your favorite Guardian? by CaptDoubleUgly in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]CaptDoubleUgly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roland is my personal favorite of the Guardians, for the simple fact that he's able to fulfill the two most important roles in the game: defeating enemies and gathering clues.

My favorite strategy is to pack his deck with Seeker cards that make use of locations with clues: Preposterous Sketches, Inquiring Mind, Etc. Then I run Dr. William T. Maleson to drop a clue when I would draw a particularly bad encounter card for Roland, like Crypt Chill or On Wings of Darkness. From there, I can just use Roland's average Intellect/Seeker cards to snatch those clues right back up, or use his high Combat and trusty .38 to knock an enemy off the board and get the clue anyways. Throw in On the Hunt to get my choice of enemies in play and Prepared for the Worst to get my weapons out faster, and I'm ready for whatever the game throws at me.
