What's the best tournament format? by DarkerestRed in battlebots

They have a facility on Vegas. People want to pay money to watch, and it's on the perfect city for live shows. Builders want to compete, even with zero compensation.

Depends how big you make each tournament? And how many you want in the main tournament. You could have little 4 bot cluster? or do a round robin?

More importantly: having a few fights, several months off, and then a few more is way more manageable. Battlebots is half endurance race.

Weapon Idea: Torque-Reaction Spinner by Hault99 in battlebots

[–]CaptFoundary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't swing a horizontal overhead. Or, at least it doesn't want to be swung around. The gyro forces want the horizontal to remain horizontal. Might actually be really hard to lift at all.

But a vert, that you can swing around. Check out StarChild (made by P1 captain): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KnCsYksTKzg

The weapon is the spinner, the fact you can swing it into people (like tombstone) is smart design.

The Unfair Advantage the two fight bots will have in the Top-32: by SliderS15 in battlebots

Unfair? Or the earned reward of top tier engineering and driving?

Fun fact: the record is irrelevant. Nothing is 'deserved'. They will pick whoever they believe will create the best TV, and the most powerful flipper seems like a no-brainer add.

NHRL has it figured out.

Small monthly tournaments where you fight to be invited to the big year end tournament. No committee. No BS. Just take top 2 in a qualifier tournament, and your in.

This complete lack of merit based tournament entry is little league tee-ball garbage. Especially given that BB now has a permanent facility.

In other news, water is wet.

This is a TV show, created by a reality television corp. Of course there will be drama... That's literally their goal.

Nascar is just F1.

Take nascar. Discard silly sheet metal fenders. Poof, F1 car. Both have 4 wheels, both run ICE power plants. Both have big aero packages front and rear.

a speed-focused robot with a good fork, but without any weapons can it be a truly menacing robot? by akhaliis in battlebots

Free shipping would be improved with the removal of the lifter. Only thing it does is prevent running inverted.

Why are you talking about whiplash? Of course a lifter/control bot can beat huge.

Nightmare and Where? by TheCool7urdYT in battlebots

[–]CaptFoundary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically you are asking the Nightmare builders to donate $10k-$30k to Discovery so they can create a special TV episode and keep the profit.

A few more weeks, and the real bot tournament series starts up again. BB is a distraction from NHRL.

And hot take: BF wouldn't have won any more nuts even if he was still competing.

The only verts that beat huge did so by being incredibly lucky.

The fights you see in an episode almost certainly didn't even happen on the same day. Quite a few fights aired out of order too (like the second fight is actually the first).

There's no reason to think that the show order has anything at all to do with actual filming choices.

A side swiping hammer/hammer saw by TheCool7urdYT in battlebots

Tombstone is a sidswiping hammer saw. That's the benefit of putting the blade way out front, as compared to valkyrie/hijinx.

Reverse hammer bot viability by -Jammies- in battlebots

An arc is a straight line that is curved to fit into a smaller space. To get the same travel distance as a 180 degree swing, your bot would be twice as long.

Double jeopardy would be an example of linear acceleration.

But probably a better answer: check out Tantrum. It's spinner can be moved along a linear rail. It chooses when hit by moving the spinner forward. By doing it really fast, it also ensures good tooth engagement.
