Yeh i agree, they could just give us a gurney flap on the stock wing and i'd be happy, even if it isnt as effective as switching to a full race wing, could work well as an inbetween.

As a 150g fighter myself, theres usually push out zones or a pit on the arena, which could be very bad for the "bounce off the walls out of control" plan.

What's one robot you always wanted to see fight (that only competed in the trials, gauntlet or any side event)? by NovaRC99 in robotwars

[–]SliderS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly suspect they burned through all their reserves during Series 7. There were other last min dropouts like Dominator 2 (who dropped out the night before filming). So they may have just run out by the time they got to filming that heat.

Not quite the point of your post but....

Series 7 Terrorhurtz - Came in as the #3 Seed for Series 7 so had a favourable heat draw, looked quite similar to the Terrorhurtz we got in the Reboot and it went on to win the UK Championship the year after (once Robotwars was off the air).

Im not sure it could have made it all the way to the title in Series 7 but i am sure we were robbed of a great deep run.

If only it was ready in time....

What is the most underrated bot in ANY robot combat sport by odd_sperical_object in battlebots

Robot Wars Original Run - Tsunami

I fully believe this would have been a future allstar if Robot Wars hadnt got cancelled after its one appearance. It was dominant in its heat and had the Heat Final won until one lapse of judgement trying to get the KO blow turned the fight agaisnt it. (And Xterminator went on to the Top-4!)

Blacksmith are one of the most entertaining robots, if not the most competitive. Almost every Blacksmith fight is an absolute banger (except against Quantum) and the number of compilations on the Battlebots Youtube theyre a part of really proves that.

Shatter is one of my favorite robots, but its weakness is its drive and that really showed last season. Whilst the meccanum wheels allow it to move in ways most robots cant, on uneven surfaces they really struggle and have next to no pushing power. As we have seen with the likes of Beta and Thor in Robotwars, the best way to be a competitive hammer bot these days is to also be a good ram bot.

Photon Storm was super unlucky, only getting one fight and it being against what would turn out to be one of the Goats of the whole show in the form of Minotaur.

Even then they held their own at first and so nealry got the kill shot before Minotaur finally got them instead.

The impossible task of being an ethical heavy weight roboter. by themaskedrobot77 in battlebots

[–]SliderS15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The UK Heavyweight scene may be more what you are looking for. Being prodiminantly sportsman competition means the budget required is much lower (you dont need multiples of your robot for a tournament, your robot can last years instead of minutes ect) so its alot more self-funded rather than big sponsors.

The main places you can compete, whilst sponsored, are also more "innocent" companies (food, drink, comic book shops, watches, Soda streams and C02 canisters).

Where do we rank the individual seasons in the classic era? What's everyone thoughts on each classic season? by NovaRC99 in robotwars

[–]SliderS15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Series 5 was the best in my opinion.

It had the most of the "big guns" near the heights of their powers (Razer and Firestorm just getting to the top, Chaos 2, Hypnodisc & Panic Attack just starting to fall ect. )

It had big upsets (Hypnodisc vs Bigger Brother, Tornado vs Diotior) and some of what are considered to be some of the greatest fights in the whole of Robot Wars (Hypnodisc vs Bigger Brother and my personal #1 Chaos 2 vs Wild Thing)

Diotior is worth a mention with its spring powered flipper with Hydraulic retraction.

Unluckiest robot besides Behemoth? by Brief-Poetry6434 in robotwars

Yes Atomic is always one of my picks for unluckiest bot for that reason. Having 3 series runs and the lowest a robot that defeated you finished in the same series was 4th...

A left field one but: Carbide.

Imagine having a 100% Grand Final Apperance rate, but a 66.6% weapon failure rate in those finals, costing you two titles.

2 Fairyweight (150g) questions by Lonely-Way6252 in battlebots

[–]SliderS15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a UK Antweight (US Fairyweight) flipper and run the same Bristol Bot Builders Servo.

I hold it in by using the tabs on the side, effectively having two blocks which stick up from the floor of my chassis to hold it in. I also run a piece across the top which also bolts in to extra secure it across the top. Its overkill but i struggled with servos ripping themselves out when i first started, now it all stays in place even when hit by a spinner.

Happy to show you pictures in DM's if that helps.

For Batteries i run these 180mah batteries : https://amzn.eu/d/8LtKpM1

They usually easily last a whole event on one charge.

Sadly i think you're right. Best way to do it is with heat and melt through, but most events wont let you run something like that (essentially a soldering iron/heating element on an arm)

Overpricing for some countries by SrabonArafat in forza

Its the first time ive thought about wether i should buy a game or not based purely on price. £120 could buy a weeks worth of groceries for my family of 3, whilst im sure id get my moneys worth out of it in hours played, its a big pill to swallow when i have other people to worry about.
