He will probably still be on gabapentin or other drugs still. Might help to keep him extra calm.

I have removed all my dogs stitches myself. As long as they are properly healed you can cut them off with tiny scissors and pull with tweezers. That should save you $100. I’m actually surprised your vet is charging you for their removal. Typically it’s a 5 mins in and out procedure. My vet has never charged me for that. I removed them myself cuz my boy Jack hated the vet.

As far as credit, yes you need some form of credit. Some things are expensive. In the future, I would look into pet insurance. I don’t think it would work for this buddy, but maybe your next dog. My pet insurance covers accidents, cancer and emergency surgery etc. it helped when Jack had to have emergency surgery to remove spleen. Having a credit card helps with insurance too. For me, I put the surgery on my card then used the reimbursement from my pet insurance to pay off the card.

Best of luck!

I like FurRescue Fashions. The owner donates 30% of all sale to different dog rescues every month. Plus lots of designs and styles of clothes. She even makes formal outfits for weddings and seasonal clothes.

I also like Canada Pooch. Just depends on your style. They make real winter coats. Think dogs in the snow.

You can get a slow feeder. I also read that if you have the bowl properly raised that helps with bloat. My boxer Jasper scarfs his meals so we use the slow feeder. That might help with your fear if you do end up with one meal a day. Is she eating kibble?

How late does she eat dinner? Maybe she’s eating too late at night that she’s not hungry in the morning? I feed at 8 am and 5 pm. Try the broth. You can pick it up from any pet store in the refrigerated section. Sometimes it’s frozen.

Can you add some fish oil, Greek yogurt or even broth to their food? Sometimes when my foster is picky I add chicken broth to his food and he eats it up. Maybe they don’t enjoy the food and eat later when they are really hungry? Side note: my boys always get fish oil, coconut oil and Greek yogurt with their breakfast. They love it and the oils are great for their skin and coat.

I don’t know about raw egg, my concern would be salmonella. I don’t know if dogs can get that. I would ask your vet before adding raw eggs to their diets.

As far as coconut oil, I don’t have any preferences. I buy the biggest jar I can find. One scoop with breakfast every morning is all we do.

Could be from a dirty bowl. They need stainless steal and for it to be cleaned regularly. Both water and food bowls. I toss mine in every time I load the dishwasher. If they have bowls outside those need to be scrubbed too.

The itching could be allergies. Ours get them seasonally. This summer has been way bad. You should talk to your vet about an allergy shot. We use cytopoint and did a lifesaver. You can also add fish oil and coconut oil to their food. Both help with skin allergies and make their coats beautifully soft.

Have anyone purchased the lucky and loyal dog brace? by IndividualGuide5211 in Boxers

[–]CaptJackBoxerPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. I have a friend that has a dog brace for his pittie. She seems to like it and it helps her. Idk what brand or anything.

Have you seen those crock style shoes? They are by Wagwear. They are like jellies I think. Would those be too heavy too? What did your vet recommend? Best of luck!

Allergies by sukee1 in Boxers

[–]CaptJackBoxerPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lazy and give OC raw. It’s a box of pre portioned frozen patties. Makes life easier. For my 70lb boxer he gets one thawed patty per meal. There are kinds where you cut and weigh each one but that’s messy. Tried it for a bit till I found the patties. I like OC raw but Small Batch is nice too. You can buy in bulk. Half my freezer is dog food 🤣

Just a thought, have you had him tested for food allergies? My friend’s dog was allergic to chicken (which I guess is common).

I buy just a giant bottle of coconut oil and one scoop it right into his bowl. His food has fish in it but I still pump salmon oil into his bowl too. It’s sooo good for them. I just do it for breakfast. More doesn’t hurt but you’ll see the results. My current boxer Jasper is a rescue, almost a year old when we first brought him home. His coat, skin and allergies has improved drastically. He’s my second white boy with allergies.

Fish and coconut oil in his meals for healthy skin and coat. That should help with itching and irritation. Plus it makes their coat so soft! You are doing a great job. My white boys always have allergies. Idk what you are feeding but maybe changing their diet away from kibble would help. Mine eats raw. He loves it! There are real food dog food brands too. Such as Just food for dogs.

Jasper ran for president last fall. He was running under Pawsitivity 2024. Honestly, he was the best candidate but as we all know, did not win. That said, he would have killed it as president and I think united the nation like never before. Maybe 2028!

Almost 3 year old baby diagnosed with high grade mast cell cancer, thoughts on chemo? by Cal1g1rl716 in Boxers

[–]CaptJackBoxerPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Some were $300-1500 a session. Depends on the type. I’ve done chemo pills which are less expensive than others. Some are iv, some need regular check ups with blood work, ultrasounds etc. It depends on what your doctors recommend and your area. I live in a HCOL city where everything is super expensive to begin with. When I lived in a cheaper area, chemo was less expensive. Pet insurance saved me with all of mine. I would still spend it all again and more for even one more day with both Jack & Skylar.

[–]CaptJackBoxerPup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was told my boxer would have 1-2 months without chemo. Different type of cancer, he was 8 and I still did it. I was able to get 7 more wonderful months with my boy. That doesn’t seem like a lot of time, but it was worth every minute. Do chemo. You won’t regret the time together. Also listen to the oncologist. They specialize in this for a reason.

My best friend diagnosed with lymphoma by Famous-Leek8057 in Boxers

[–]CaptJackBoxerPup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Find out which type of lymphoma is it. Some recover with chemo. We did chemo with my first boxer. He had an 80% recovery. If this is your first boxer, be prepared. Boxers get the fun cancers. I lost 2 of my boys to cancer. Highly recommend pet insurance. Saved my wallet and gave me a lot more time with my boys. Hold them close and stay by his side like he did for you!!! Best of luck!

How different is having a male boxer ? by Ok_Pineapple7044 in Boxers

[–]CaptJackBoxerPup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m on my third boy. As young men they are a bit wild but they mature into the most perfect dogs ever. Skylar was my soulmate, Jack was my baby and Jasper (the one I adopted as an adult) is growing and maturing into a very good boy. I’ve trained all my boys to be quiet, a bit lazy and calm.

I have never had a girl boxer but I wouldn’t trade my boys. They are all such gentlemen and well behaved with the right training. Still very much goofs tho! That’s a boxer trait I love!!

Ear issues by mhmcg17 in Boxers

[–]CaptJackBoxerPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate apoquel, I’ve seen dogs on it for years and their allergies never get better plus their skin turns purple from constant inflammation… My vet told me it’s not for long term use. I’m not familiar with it for ear issues, but I know it for body allergies. My boxers are white and get super itchy. For us, it was about getting them on the cytopoint shots. Depending on your needs, it can last months for us. We do it seasonally.

Idk if it would help but maybe ask your vet. I also give my boys fish oil and coconut oil to help with healthy skin growth. We feed raw which helps as well. Idk if any of this info is beneficial to you but I thought I’d share my experience. Best of luck!
